Europe, Rotterdam, Zuid Holland, Feijenoord, Pantone Matching System (PMS), Pantone fandeck, Colour formula guide (slightly cut from B&T)

`The Pantone Matching System (PMS) is a colour order system used in graphic design, fashion design, product design, printing, and manufacturing and supporting the management of colour from design to production, in physical and digital formats”. Using the system enables designers to communicate in a standardized way, specifying which colour should be used in manufacturing their products. There are thousands of colours – each with its own code (and recipe/guide). They are physically shown in Pantone Guides, which consist of a large number of small (approximately 6×2 inches or 15×5 cm) thin cardboard (the well used one shown here) or plastic sheets, printed on one side with a series of related color swatches and then bound into a small "fan deck".

The system came in very handy when I wanted to let a friend who designed and built the tall transmission line cabinets for our vintage Tannoy 12” dual concentric transducers know which colour we had chosen for them (it was, by the way, PMS 3945C, a warm yellow).

A shot of exactly one year ago, testing out de A7iii. I've been very pleased working with this piece of gear ever since. For my landscapes, but maybe even more for shooting portraits, where the eye-af makes all the difference.

Thanks for having a look! All faves and comments are highly appreciated!

You do me (and hopefully yourself) a big favour by pressing L and then F11, to view at maximum size.

The Nieuwe Luxor Theatre (2001, Bolles & Wilson) with its expressive half open parking and brises soleil.

During our last stay in Tavira, I managed to lose my Olympus Fisheye/Lens cap. Well, it ís tiny ;-). But it left a hole in my lens inventory and I finally decided to fill it with a 7 Artisans 7,5mm f/2,8 fish eye. And what a joy it is to use this compact but relatively heavy package of glass and metal.

This is number 1051 of Minimalism / explicit graphism and 14 of Nieuwe Luxor.

Europe, The Netherlands, Zuid-Holland, Rotterdam, Blijdorp Zoo, Chimney, Statue (slightly cut from all sides)

The Open Monumenten Dag (Open Monuments Day) brought us to Blijdorp Zoo. The building and urban design of Blijdorp Zoo were both designed by Sybold van Ravensteyn, the only architect in the world to have done so, and, alas, is also known as the architect from whom a significant percentage of his work has been prematurely demolished. As an architect, his primary role was head architect of the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (Dutch Railways). His most famous station was Rotterdam Central Station. His style can be described as romantic-modernist.

Seen here is the chimney of the former Lion’s house, now used for the Gelada’s. Van Ravensteyn adorned the chimney with a statue of Orpheus while charming the animals with his instrument - lookin' like a Lute. It should have been a Lyre, he used some poetic licence here,

This is number 22 of the Blijdorp Zoo album.

The overpass connects the Laan op Zuid with the Posthumalaan and the Rijnhaven – which is currently being transformed. On the left and right are two buildings (Erik van Egeraat associated architects, 1997). of the InHolland University of higher professional education.

After that iconic shot I upped earlier, I tried out some more long exposure shots of the cube houses. Again I took my time for framing it. When I reviewed this shot on my camera, I was completely blown away. I think it's my most lucky long exposer shot ever made. The cloud movement is perfectly parallel to the roof, from left to right, amazing.

Europe, The Netherlands, Zuid Holland, Rotterdam, Wilhelminakade, World Port Days 2022, Aqua Helix, FCS 7011, Passenger space, People, (slightly cut from B & cut from T)

Let’s return to the Aqua Helix crew suppier. One of its two passenger decks is shown here. The feel is that of the first-class section of a modern wide-body jet. That of the comfortable chairs too. A curious detail is its wooden deck mimicking soft carpeting.

The vessel is a fast crew supplier (capacity: 122 passengers), built by Damen Shipyards. Prominent features of the ship are its radical wave piercing and stability-enhancing axe-bow and the Ampelmann, motion-compensated telescoping gangway, used to offer offshore workers easy access to oil rigs, wind turbines etc. Check out this post here for its exterior and more information.

This is number 53 of the World Port Days album and 45 of Ferries.

Europe, The Netherlands, Zuid Holland, Rotterdam Zuid, Waalhaven, Crane ships, Taklift 6&7 (uncut)

The vessel Taklift 6 and 7 are crane ships built in 1977 . Taklift 7's characteristics: Dimensions 73 x 30 m, Gross tonnage 3297. It's a crane of the sheerleg type ( it is not capable of rotating the crane independently of its hull) and is currently operational in Asia and Taklft 6 is laid up in Rotterdam, where I captured it ten years ago. It can lift 2200 Tons. The vessels are operated by Smit Salvage, Transport & Heavy Lift.

The previous post showed the hull of Taklift 6.

Europe, The Netherlands, Zuid Holland, Rotterdam, Diergaarde Blijdorp, Rhinos (cut from B&T)

Rhinos feeding at their dedicate habitat of Blijdorp zoo.

About them: “Rhinoceroses are some of the largest remaining megafauna: all weigh at least one tonne in adulthood. Two of the extant species are native to Africa and three to South and Southeast Asia

They have a herbivorous diet, small brains (400–600 g) for mammals of their size, one or two horns, and a thick (1.5–5 cm), protective skin formed from layers of collagen positioned in a lattice structure. They generally eat leafy material, although their ability to ferment food in their hindgut allows them to subsist on more fibrous plant matter when necessary.

Rhinoceros are killed by poachers for their horns, which are bought and sold on the black market for high prices, leading to most living rhinoceros species being considered endangered. " (Wiki)
