“A MOON’S EYE VIEW OF THE APOLLO LUNAR SURFACE CLOSE-UP CAMERA

The Camera Takes a Scientific Photo of Moon Dirt In Stereo and Color”

A clever photograph, not only with regard to the perspective - through a transparent surface, but also of “illuminating” the fact that a repeat flash capability was necessary to take each photograph. A fact likely lost on the casual observer of the ALSCC…not that such exists. Fittingly, Bruce L. Elle, Eastman Kodak Co.’s program manager for design and production of the ALSCC demonstrates.

This photograph probably laid the foundation for this.

Friggin’ AWESOME. My WOC class ‘sang’ - at the top of our lungs - this as we marched into the DFAC shortly before graduation.

“A longtime member of the Kodak Apparatus Division, Research and Engineering team, Bruce Elle worked on several of the company’s most important contracts, including the production of photographic equipment for a secret Cold War spying operation, early photography of the moon for NASA’s Lunar Orbiter program, and close-up 3D photography of the lunar surface for the Apollo missions.

A graduate of Oregon State University, Elle served as the company program manager at Kodak responsible for the design of the Apollo Lunar Surface Close-up Camera (ALSCC), which was used to take stereoscopic close-ups of lunar soil during the moon landing missions. After Apollo 11’s lift-off, he flew to Houston to be on hand to provide expert advice and troubleshooting for the ALSCC. According to the Kodakery newsletter of July 24, 1969, he had marked the side of the mission’s camera—to be operated by first moonwalker Neil Armstrong and left behind on the moon to conserve weight—in red lettering: ‘If found return to Bruce Elle, U.S.A., Earth.’ Noticing the text, Neil was quick to ask: ‘Who’s going to pay the postage?’

The above per the RR Auction promotional write-up for items belonging to the estate of Mr. Elle. Of those, the April 16, 2020 “Space Exploration & Aviation” auction featured a training model of the ALSCC! Along with a bunch of other really really cool stuff owned by Mr. Elle:

Possibly the issue of ‘Kodakery” referenced, with the photograph on the cover. What a wonderfully terrible & corny title for their publication:

I had a few hours walking through Fraserburgh Harbour capturing as many vessels as I could on 19th April 2018, its a fine busy harbour and when the sun shines you can capture the trawlers etc at their best .

Fraserburgh Harbour is situated in Aberdeenshire in the North East corner of Scotland and is ideally positioned for the fishing grounds of the North and East of Scotland, as well as being in close proximity to the North Sea oil and gas fields and the emerging offshore renewables market. The location also makes it well placed for trade with Scandinavia and the Baltic sea ports.

Google and Wiki have the folowing info on this fine town.

Fraserburgh (/ˈfreɪzərbrə/; Scots: The Broch or Faithlie, Scottish Gaelic: A' Bhruaich) is a town in Aberdeenshire, Scotland with a population recorded in the 2001 Census at 12,454 and estimated at 12,630 in 2006.

It lies at the far northeast corner of Aberdeenshire, about 40 miles (64 km) north of Aberdeen, and 17 miles (27 km) north of Peterhead. It is the biggest shellfish port in Europe, landing over 12,000 tonnes in 2008, and is also a major white fish port and busy commercial harbour.

History

The name of the town means, literally, 'burgh of Fraser', after the Fraser family that bought the lands of Philorth in 1504 and thereafter brought about major improvement due to investment over the next century. Fraserburgh became a burgh of barony in 1546. By 1570, the Fraser family had built a castle (Fraserburgh Castle) at Kinnaird's Head and within a year the area church was built. By the 1590s the area known as Faithlie was developing a small harbour.

In 1592, Faithlie was renamed Fraserburgh by a charter of the Crown under King James VI. Sir Alexander Fraser was given permission to improve and govern the town as Lord Saltoun. At present this title is still in existence and is held by Flora Fraser, 20th Lady Saltoun and head of Clan Fraser. The Royal Charter also gave permission to build a college and university in Fraserburgh allowing the Lord Saltoun to appoint a rector, a principal, a sub-principal, and all the professors for teaching the different sciences.

A grant from the Scottish Parliament in 1595 allowed the first college building to be erected by Alexander Fraser, and in 1597 the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland recommended the Rev. Charles Ferme, then minister at the Old Parish, to be its first (and only) principal.

In 1601, Fraserburgh became a burgh of regality. The college, however, closed only a decade or so after Ferme's arrest on the orders of James VI for taking part in the 1605 General Assembly, being used again only for a short time in 1647 when King's College, Aberdeen temporarily relocated owing to an outbreak of plague. A plaque commemorating its existence may be seen on the exterior wall of the remains of the Alexandra Hotel in College Bounds.

Fraserburgh thereafter remained relatively quiet until 1787 when Fraserburgh Castle was converted to Kinnaird Head Lighthouse, Scotland's first mainland lighthouse. In 1803, the original 1571 church building was replaced and enlarged to seat 1000 people. The Auld Kirk was to be the standing authority in the town up until the 1840s.

The Statistical Account on the Parish of Fraserburgh, written between 1791–1799 (probably 1791) by Rev. Alexander Simpson of the Old Parish Church, shows that the population of Fraserburgh was growing with peaks due to seasonal employment. He records a population of about 2000 in 1780 of whom only 1000 resided in the town.

There was an additional population of 200 in the village of Broadsea. He makes a point of the arrival of Dr. Webster in Fraserburgh in 1755 claiming that the population then only stood at 1682. By the time the account was written the population had increased by 518 souls since 1755. Rev. Simpson also gives accounts of deaths, births and marriages. Between 1784-1791, he claims to have an average of 37 baptisms, 14 marriages and 19 deaths per year. The statistical account mentions activities with the harbour. He describes the harbour as small but good, telling that it had the capability to take vessels with '200 tons burden' at the time the account was written.

The account also mentions that Fraserburgh had tried and succeeded in shipbuilding especially after 1784. His account finishes speaking of a proposed enlargement of the harbour. He claims that the local people would willingly donate what they could afford but only if additional funding was provided by the Government and Royal Burghs.

The second statistical account, written as a follow up to the first of the 1790s, was written in January 1840 by Rev. John Cumming. He records population in 1791 as 2215 growing to only 2271 by 1811, but increasing massively to 2954 by 1831. He considered the herring fishing, which intensified in 1815, to be the most important reason for this population boom. By 1840 he writes that seamen were marrying early with 86 marriages and 60 births in the parish in the space of one year. On top of this increased population, he explains that the herring season seen an additional 1200 people working in the Parish. There is also mention of the prosperity of this trade bringing about an increase in general wealth with a change in both dress and diet. Cumming also records 37 illegitimate children from 1837–1840 although he keeps no record of death.

The prosperity of the economy also brought about improvement within the town with a considerable amount of new houses being built in the town. The people were gaining from the herring industry as in real terms rent fell by 6% from 1815 to 1840. Lord Saltoun was described as the predominant land owner earning £2266,13s,4d in rents.

This period also saw the extension of the harbour with a northern pier of 300 yards built between 1807–1812 and, in 1818, a southern pier built by Act of Parliament. Cumming states that no less than £30,000 was spent developing the harbour between 1807 and 1840 by which time the harbour held eight vessels of 45–155 tons and 220 boats of the herring fishery.

A railway station opened in 1865 and trains operated to Aberdeen via Maud and Dyce, as well as a short branch line to St. Combs. It was, however, closed to passengers in 1965 as part of the Beeching cuts, though freight trains continued to operate until 1979, after which the station site was redeveloped. Currently, the closest operating station is Inverurie, 56 km (35 miles) away.

Climate[

Fraserburgh has a marine climate heavily influenced by its proximity to the sea. As such summer highs and winter lows are heavily moderated, with very mild winter temperatures for a location so far north. The differences between seasons are very narrow as a result, with February averaging highs of 6.7 °C (44.1 °F) and August 17.2 °C (63.0 °F).[6] As a result of its marine influence, there is significant seasonal lag, with September being milder than June and October has slightly milder nights than May, in spite of a massive difference of daylight. The climate is overcast and wet with 1351.8 hours of sunshine. Temperature extremes have ranged from 26.6.C (July 1995) down to -14.4.C (February 1991) 747.7 millimetres (29.44 in) of precipitation per annum.

The photo above is found at jaisini.artbabyart.net/.

Sometimes in first years of 2000 the website artbabyart asked for more content to upload the second page. First page with the essays was loaded around 1998-99.

The photos were added for presentation (tag #NewYorkcodepink) The way I know it is that Paul Jaisini is not the creator of the photos found at jaisini.artbabyart.net site. They signature JAISINI signifies he agreed to have some images on the website since the request for images was so massive. There’s no information on how these photos were created. On jaisini.artbabyart.net site they are called N-city photos and appear under a title “Who is Artist Paul Jaisini.” I know that placing visual images under such page name was on behalf of the webmasters erroneous assumption. Rick Santiago or whoever was in charge to upload content had seen what he thought was a signature of Paul Jaisini on the photos. That is how I understand why the photos are placed under a page titled “Who is Artist Paul Jaisini.” Fact is that the group of people together with Yustas Kotz-Gottlieb (Ellen Yustas K. Gottlieb) were involved with Gleitzeit outreach now and at that time. The name on the photos might signify that Paul Jaisini agreed with the images to appear on the Internet for presentation reason. I can’t say for sure that this is exactly what happened. As to how the webmaster of artbabyart site misplaced the photos is easy to assume that he/she wanted to make it easier for the visitors to navigate the site.

something called The Theory of Invisible Art

Well, folks, what if there actually was something called The Theory of Invisible Art? What then? Whether you agree with it, or disagree…whether you like Yustas or hate her (we have some real haters here)… whether you understand it or you don’t… whether you choose to laugh at it or you don’t…what if there really was something called The Theory of Invisible Art? Okay, you don’t believe it, won’t believe it, your mind is closed on the subject. I can’t really believe that. If you’re not willing to set aside disbelief for even a moment to consider another point of view, you can’t be a serious writer. Come on now, assume for a moment that there just may be some serious thinking cast in this direction by a divergent group of fairly successful and prominent people in our society, including scientists, artists and sociologists. Now walk with me a little ways on this one…what if these thinking people were interested in the process of creating art, in how it went from chaos to beauty, from unformed to formed, from nothing to something, from invisible to visible? Can’t you see how such a thread deserves a bit more consideration than many of you have given it? I’m proud of the few of you who have been thoughtful enough to at least ponder possibilities and potential implications in terms of your own work. What, the scoffers say, might such a preposterous theory have to do with writers? Open your eyes, friend—just a few days ago, a writer posted complaining of writer’s block. And aren’t we always trying to evaluate good ideas, how to acquire them and turn them into novels, screenplays, short stories, essays? Well, along comes a theory that just might help some of you intellectualize the raw process…take another look. You don’t have to see a painting by Paul Jaisini to understand what Yustas is trying to tell you. Look for the sense, the meaning, the ideas that might help you to become a better writer and artist.

Danish silent film actress Asta Nielsen (1881-1972), was one of the most popular leading ladies of the 1910s and one of the first international film stars. Of her 74 films between 1910 and 1932, seventy were made in Germany where she was known simply as 'Die Asta'. Noted for her large dark eyes, mask-like face, and boyish figure, Nielsen most often portrayed strong-willed passionate women trapped by tragic consequences.

Asta Sofie Amalie Nielsen was born in the Copenhagen suburb of Vesterbro, Denmark, in 1881. She was the daughter of an often unemployed blacksmith and a washerwoman. Nielsen's family moved several times during her childhood while her father sought employment. When she was fourteen years old, her father died. Asta's stage debut came as a child in the chorus of the Kongelige Teater's production of Boito's opera 'Mephistopheles'. At the age of eighteen, Nielsen was accepted into the drama school of the Royal Danish Theatre. During her time there, she studied with the Royal Danish actor Peter Jerndorff. In 1901, twenty years old, she became pregnant and gave birth to her daughter, Jesta. Nielsen never revealed the identity of the father, and chose to raise her child alone with the help of her mother and older sister. In 1902, she graduated from drama school. For the next three years, she worked at the Dagmar Theatre, then toured in Norway and Sweden from 1905 to 1907 with De Otte and the Peter Fjelstrup companies. Returning to Denmark, she was employed at Det Ny Theater (The New Theatre) from 1907 to 1910. Although she worked steadily as a stage actress, her performances remained unremarkable. Danish historian Robert Neiiedam wrote that Nielsen's unique physical attraction, which was of great value on the screen, was limited on stage by her deep and uneven speaking voice.

In 1909, set designer and director Urban Gad encouraged Asta Nielsen to become a film actress and she starred in his Danish silent film Afgrunden/The Abyss (Urban Gad, 1910). Gary Morris observes in Bright Lights Film Journal: "this film established from the beginning key components of her legend: scandalous eroticism and a uniquely minimalist acting style." Asta plays a music teacher lured away from her stolid fiancee (Robert Dinesen) by a sexy but faithless circus cowboy (Poul Reumert). In a startling sequence of sexual intensity, she lassos her boyfriend and does a lewd dance, bumping and grinding against him. Morris: "This vulgar ‘gaucho-dance’ was what most viewers remembered, but critics of the time also applauded Asta's naturalistic acting." The film was a huge success so she was encouraged to continue. The following year Balletdanserinden/The Ballet Dancer (August Blom, 1911) proved to be another success. Nielsen and Gad soon married. A German distributor, Paul Davidson, invited Nielsen to Germany, where he was building a new studio. Eventually, this would become Europe's largest film studio - the Universum Film Union A.-G. (or Ufa). Asta signed a contract for $80,000 a year, then the highest salary for a film actress. In 1911, she moved to Berlin with Urban Gad. In a Russian popularity poll of that year, she was voted world's top female film star, behind French comedian Max Linder and ahead of her Danish compatriot Valdemar Psilander.

In the next six years, Asta Nielsen played every conceivable kind of character in both tragedies and comedies. In Die Suffragette/The Militant Suffragette (Urban Gad, 1913), she is an English female liberationist whose beliefs force her to become violent, placing a bomb in Parliament. In Zapatas Bande/Zapata's Gang (Urban Gad, 1916), she plays a highway robber. In the comedy Das Liebes-ABC/The ABCs of Love (Magnus Stifter, 1916), she pretends to be a man and takes her wimpy boyfriend out on the town in order to "bring out the man in him." Nielsen was so famous that the name Asta became a trademark for cigarettes and perfumes. In the Dutch city The Hague, a cinema was named after her. Her beauty was praised by the poet Guillaume Apollinaire as "the drunkard's vision and the lonely man's dream". One of Asta's most interesting productions was Hamlet (Sven Gade, Heinz Schall, 1921). Gary Morris: "Asta brings a subtle twist to her version not by playing a man, but by playing a woman disguised as a man, adding another level of gender complexity. Hamlet was based less on William Shakespeare than on a popular book of the time that said Hamlet was actually a girl forcibly raised as a boy in order to provide an heir to the Danish throne. At first, the effect is more puzzling than effective, but the actress's strategy becomes evident in sexually charged scenes between Asta/Hamlet and Horatio, who caress and coddle each other in what surely appeared to viewers of the time (as it does to modern audiences) as a gay tryst. Asta brilliantly imparts the gender-unstable nature of the character in these scenes with Horatio and others with Fortinbras, whose encounters with Hamlet are also clearly coded as gay. The actress's effortless creation of these subtle, sympathetic homosexual tableaux gives a tremendous vitality to this production. The fact that the film was truly hers — being the first film she made with her own production company — shows just how daring and modern she was."

Nowadays Asta Nielsen is best known for Die Freudlose Gasse/The Joyless Street (G.W. Pabst, 1925). Asta plays in this film an impoverished woman who resorts to prostitution and murder. In the original prints there were two equal-time female leads: Nielsen and a young actress from Sweden, Greta Garbo. Ruthlessly cut for American release, the film suddenly became a Garbo vehicle. Fortunately, the print has been restored recently and Asta triumphs in it as the increasingly unbalanced Marie. Nielsen continued to be a screen legend in Germany, and appeared in films like Dirnentragödie/Tragedy of the Street (Bruno Rahn, 1927) and in her only sound film Unmögliche Liebe/Crown of Thorns (Erich Waschneck, 1932). After the Nazis came to power she was rumoured to be offered her own studio by propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels. Understanding the implications well, she left Germany for good in 1936, settling in Denmark where she returned to stage acting and became a private figure. In her later years, Asta Nielsen wrote articles on art and politics and a two-volume autobiography, 'Den tiende Muse' (The Silent Muse) in 1946. She also became an acclaimed collage artist. In 1964, Nielsen had to come to terms with the most severe blow of her life: her daughter Jesta committed suicide following the death of her husband. At 86, Asta directed her first film. Luise F. Pusch writes in FemBio: "After a film about her life did not meet with her approval, she set to work on the project herself. The result was a work of art." At 88, Asta Nielsen married her third husband, Christian Theede, an art dealer 18 years her junior and the great love of her life. The two enjoyed their travels together so much that they decided to leave their fortune to a foundation to fund trips for the elderly. In 1972, Asta Nielsen died in Copenhagen after a leg fracture. She was 90.

And, please check out our blog European Film Star Postcards.

The National Weather Service said that there is 8 inches of snow on the ground in Lubbock. And more is coming down as I write this. Snow is supposed to stop later this morning. This is what our backyard looks like today.

I started out to make my Cupcakes tangle but this one came out first! LOL

really like this guy. hes bombing lots of freights and walls. yes, he's doing almost the same bombs, but this is what writers should do - to write your name everywhere ;]

Boethius swam as hard as he could for shore. The freezing water pierced his skin and flesh, down to his bones. It felt like a thousand knives stabbing at you. He fell numb, just as the sun began shining through the clouds.

Boethius couldn't remember how he got to shore. He presumed he passed out and by a miracle floated to the shore. He awoke on a cold, hard stone surface. He noticed that he was only feet from the dock he had seen on the horizon when his raft broke. Boethius lifted himself upon the dry frozen-over dock. He heard calling, but his ears were filled with ice water. He lay his drenched body on the dock.

"Oy! Looks like we got ah live one laddies!"

"Doesn't look too alive to me."

Boethius, laying in puddle of water now looked up to the three guards. He muttered to himself, "Not these guys again."

"Oy! Whad you say?"

"Nothing, I was just...coughing. Do you guys have a fire, or somewhere warm that I can stay?" Boethius asked.

"Whad does this look like laddie? An inn?" Said one of the guards.

"Where ya comin' from? You one of them fish people?" Question the second guard.

"Shut-up, you nimrod. There ain't no sea people!" Said the other guard.

"I was sailing up the cost, when a storm hit me. Where am I now?" Boethius asked.

"Oy! Welcome to the cold waste land known as Garhiem laddie. You must've been blown far off course."

"He don't look like no sailor boss." Remarked the other guard, just as Boethius was responding to the previous guard.

"Oy shut-up! He's tryin' to talk!" Scolded the guard who seemed to say "Oy" before every sentence.

"Do you guys have a fire? I'm freezing." Asked Boethius once more.

"Yea. Just up the hill. Oy. You two" As he motioned to the other two guards, "carry em up the hill. He's in no status to walk."

The two guards helped Boethius to his feet, while the guard who seemed to be in charge marched ahead. They helped walk him up the hill to a fire, which was a beautiful sight to Boethius.

"Thank you." Said Boethius as they set him down next to the fire.

"Oy, I gots to say, you don't look like no sailor I've ever seen." Said the guard in charge.

"You guys are the Galanir's men, right?" Asked Boethius trying to dodge his captors questioning.

"Yes. We be employed by her majesty, the true Queen of Roawia."

"So you guys, are Outlaws?"

"I guess you could say before her majesty took over, we might have been a little outside of the law." One of the guards chuckled. "Why?"

"Well, I'll be honest with you guys, I'm no sailor. I've been running from the law for most of my life."

Boethius looked dead into the eyes of the other guards. There was a moment of silence among each other. Boethius turned his head down, towards the flickering flames. The three guards looked at each other, with questioning faces.

"Oy, will you give me and boys a minute to discuss something?" Asked the guard in charge.

"Sure, I guess so." Said Boethius.

The men gathered a little farther down the hill to the camp.

"How do we know he's an Outlaw, and not some Lenfel trying to give us the slip?"Finally asked one of the guards.

"He ain't got no markings, but he seemed pretty serious."

"Oy, I think he be telling the truth. Who would openly admit to being an Outlaw, besides another Outlaw?"

"I guess so. I say we bring em back to town, and make sure he don't leave."

"Oy, good idea laddie. We'll tell him we believe em, and bring em back to town. We'll tell em to stay in town, so if he is trying' to plot something, he can't spread the word up the cost."

The three men agreed to the plan. They came back up the hill and told Boethius they had believe him. They told him they were waiting for three boats from the Queen's Palace to arrive, but then remarked that they didn't think they were coming. They told him they were going to lead him back to town.

I experimented with a snowy landscape here. Not quite sure if it worked, but I liked it. This was actually pretty fun to build, and challenging to write for. Enjoy!

My write up on photographing the new Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas here

On the weekend of November 20-21, 2010, I was invited to photograph the new Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas prior to their opening December 15, 2010 in Las Vegas NV.

This set of images represents my efforts that weekend to showcase this newest resort property opening up on the Las Vegas Strip. Thanks to David Scherer from The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas for showing me around, to Miiko Mentz at Katalyst Films for helping to arrange the shoot, and to my wife for modeling for me.

LEAH GARCHIK writes in the San Francisco Chronicle: 'I am informed by ADDA DADA , who never misses a party, that the winner of the Hunky Jesus Contest was TWERKING JESUS. And "Why carry your cross when you can ride it?" is what REBECCA ZITO when she spotted a cyclist so accessorized.'

In Wednesday's Leah Garchik column in the San Francisco Chronicle.

Yes, it was.

Probably because it was the Sister's 35th Anniversary and it was an homage to the Wizard of Oz. The lawn in front of the stage was filled with red-paper poppies. There were several 'Cowardly Lions", many "Glenda the Good Witch", a couple of 'Bad Witches" including one on a bike...a very young 6-year old Judy Garland passing out Giradelli Chocolate, an awesome Scarecrow of indeterminate sex, a few Tin Men (and one obviously Tin Woman), and even a couple of 'munchkins'...yes, real little people. Though, ADDA DADA is happy to report that there were no Flying Monkeys.

Notice regarding "Lot No.402_”.

From now on # I will host "Lot No.402_".

The work of Leonardo da Vinci who was sleeping.

That is the number when it was put up for auction.

No sign was written on the work.

So this work couldn't conclude that it was his work.

However # as a result of various appraisals # it was exposed to the sun.

A work that no one notices. A work that speaks quietly without a title.

I will continue to strive to provide it to many people in various ways.

About my book.

I published a book a long time ago.

At that time # I uploaded my interview as a PDF on the internet.

Its Japanese and English.

I will publish it for free.

For details # I explained to the Amazon site.

How to write a novel.

How to take a picture.

A sense of distance to the work.

All of these have something in common.

I wrote down what I felt and left it.

I hope my text will be read by many people.

Thank you.

Kaori's dream of coming to Tokyo is to become friends with a famous artist.

For that purpose, the radio station's producer, Ryo Osawa, was needed.

Osawa speaks to Kaori during a live radio broadcast.

"I have a wife and children. But I want to meet you."

Rika Sanjo, who is Kei's classmate and has feelings for him, has been looking into her girlfriend Kaori's movements. . . . .

Main story

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.

One to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.

The other to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days staring at the shine

quietly.

Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.

I face myself to change tomorrow a vague day into something certain.

That is the meaning of a rebirth.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.

After she left I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After

she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies

until I realized it is love?

I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the

daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.

I had been thinking about such a thing.

However I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous unstable

tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

Pritchard is a small community located in the Interior of British Columbia, Canada. It has a population of roughly 2,000, and its main industries are farming and tourism. Pritchard is located on the Trans-Canada Highway (HWY 1) between Kamloops, British Columbia and Chase, British Columbia, near the Hwy 97 - Hwy 1 Intersection. Pritchard was named after Walter Percy Pritchard who purchased 160 acres from John G. Fawcett on September 1, 1907, along the South Thompson River east of the present bridge. He later built the Hotel Pritchard on the property and established the community's first post office there. Needing a name, he decided to lend it his own last name.

The world is unforgiving,

And life will take its toll.

It's difficult, when living

With a poet's burning soul.

But there's some compensation,

Which flights of fancy bring.

In his own imagination

The poet is the king.

Paul F. Cowlan, August 16, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------

This poem was written for me yesterday by Paul F. Cowlan appearing as Lord Byron at the theatre festival "Sommerwerft" in Frankfurt/Main. "Lord Byron" offered to write poems on the spot for the cost of merely 1 Euro per line. I requested a poem on the theme "The Poet's Soul", and this is what he came up with. I think it's really lovely.

When I asked him, whether it would be OK if I put it here on Flickr, he said, "Yes, sure, as long as you make it clear that this poem is not meant to be serious." Well, by quoting him, I fulfilled his condition.

Oh, and I do love that elaborate handwriting of his. He stated that this is his usual handwriting, not a style he used especially for writing the poem.
