Good Friday is an anniversary which in Sicily acquires a cathartic meaning for those who are searching, not only photographically, for popular traditions (we find them widespread throughout Sicily), which are nothing other than a social, cultural event, which merge into a single past and present; from the web "popular traditions are a historical memory linked to customs and rituals that have given shape to the values and beliefs of that culture". Easter in Sicily can be a source of research, it can appear not without contradictions, citing the thoughts of that great Sicilian thinker Leonardo Sciascia, for him Sicily cannot be called Christian referring to the Sicilian festivals, at most it is only in appearance, in those properly pagan explosions tolerated by the Church; Sciascia addresses the topic as an introductory essay in the book "Religious celebrations in Sicily", illustrated with photographs of a young and still unknown Ferdinando Scianna, a book that did not fail to raise some controversy due to the Sicilian thinker's introductory note, thus being in open controversy with the sacredness of that popular Sicilian devotion (the book was criticized by the Holy See newspaper, the Osservatore Romano), Sciascia writes: “what is a religious festival in Sicily? It would be easy to answer that it is anything but a religious holiday. It is, first of all, an existential explosion; the explosion of the collective id, where the collectivity exists only at the level of the id. Since it is only during the celebration that the Sicilian emerges from his condition of a single man, which is the condition of his vigilant and painful superego, to find himself part of a class, of a class, of a city". Another Sicilian thinker, writer and poet, Gesualdo Bufalino, provides interesting indications on the meaning that Sicilians give to these traditional popular events, he says "during Easter every Sicilian feels not only a spectator, but an actor, first sorrowful and then exultant , for a Mystery that is its very existence. The time of the event is that of Spring, the season of metamorphosis, just as the very nature of the rite is metamorphic in which, as in a story from the Puppet Opera, the battle of Good against Evil is fought. Deception, Pain and Triumph, Passion, Death and Resurrection of Christ are present."
In short, Easter in Sicily is a deeply felt anniversary throughout the island since ancient times, it has always had as its fulcrum the emotional participation of the people, with representations and processions which have become rites and traditions which unequivocally characterize numerous Sicilian centres, which they recall the most salient moments narrated in the Gospels and which recall the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, with processions formed by the various brotherhoods (sometimes with theatrical re-enactments) which have within them contents and symbols often coming from the Spanish domination, which took place in Sicily between the 16th and 17th centuries. This year, on the occasion of Good Friday I went to the pretty town of Licodia Eubea (in the province of Catania), I'll start by saying that in this procession a unique character comes to life in statue form that cannot be found anywhere else place in Sicily, it is called "Ciurciddu" (translated "Circello"), he pulls Christ with a rope tied around his neck while he carries the Cross, this bad character has a profound symbolic-allegorical meaning, he represents "the Evil that exists in the world, the refusal towards the Truth announced by Christ", causing him suffering by pulling him with the rope tied around his neck. The boys and men "carriers of the floats" gather together, preparing for the moment when, once the procession has begun, the "'a Giunta" will take place around 10:00 a.m., or rather the very painful "encounter" between Christ ( who carries the Cross, linked to Ciurciddu) and His Mother of Sorrows (with her heart pierced by a sword, an iconic image of Spanish origin), during the meeting "the bow or greeting takes place" between the two floats, it is the Greeting that Mother and Son do in one of the most characteristic moments of this procession. While the two vares are brought to an ancient church, another event takes place which strongly characterizes this tradition, the "auction of the Cross" takes place, the ability to carry the Cross, weighing 70 kg, on one's shoulder, up to Churc of Calvary (a long uphill journey to reach the upper part of the town), is put up for auction, the highest bidder wins this possibility, after which an extraordinary event occurs: the devotee who wins the auction is embraced by numerous villagers, with great transport and affection, this is because those who participate in the auction certainly do so out of devotion but also possibly because they have had someone in their family with more or less serious health problems, and this is why people hug them and encourage them by showing their closeness . In the afternoon the procession resumes, now the Christ is dead, he is in the vara with the Urn, and is called "'u Signuri' a cascia" (by which term means "the Lord in the coffin"), the two vare (the dead Christ and His Mother of Sorrows) are carried in procession up to the Church of Calvary, where the heavy and ancient Cross carried on the shoulder by the devotee was hoisted; here, even if Christ is dead, the Crucifixion takes place , the mystical moment is accompanied by ancient songs-lamentations by the singers of the SS association. Crucifix; subsequently Christ is placed from the Cross in the urn, and descends back into the center of the town, where in the church of the Capuchin Fathers the devout people "make peace with the Lord", an act of reconciliation and request for forgiveness before the figure of Christ Died. Subsequently, late in the evening, Christ and his Mother are led into the Mother Church.

Il Venerdì Santo è una ricorrenza che in Sicilia acquista un significato catartico per chi è alla ricerca, non solo fotografica, delle tradizioni popolari (le troviamo diffuse in tutta la Sicilia), che altro non sono che un evento sociale, culturale, che fondono in un tutt’uno passato e presente; dal web “le tradizioni popolari sono una memoria storica legata ad usanze e ritualità che hanno dato forma ai valori e alle credenze di quella cultura”. La Pasqua in Sicilia può essere fonte di ricerca, essa può apparire non priva di contraddizioni, citando il pensiero di quel grande pensatore Siciliano che fu Leonardo Sciascia, per lui la Sicilia non può dirsi cristiana riferendosi alle feste Siciliane, al massimo lo è solo in apparenza, in quelle esplosioni propriamente pagane, tollerate dalla Chiesa; Sciascia affronta l’argomento come saggio introduttivo nel libro “Feste religiose in Sicilia”, illustrato con fotografie di un giovane ed ancora sconosciuto Ferdinando Scianna, libro che non mancò di sollevare qualche polemica per la nota introduttiva del pensatore Siciliano, essendo così in aperta polemica con la sacralità di quella devozione popolare Siciliana (il libro fu oggetto di una stroncatura da parte del quotidiano della Santa Sede, l’Osservatore Romano), Sciascia scrive: “che cos’ è una festa religiosa in Sicilia? Sarebbe facile rispondere che è tutto, tranne che una festa religiosa. E’, innanzi tutto, un’esplosione esistenziale; l’esplosione dell’es collettivo, dove la collettività esiste soltanto a livello dell’es. Poiché è soltanto nella festa che il siciliano esce dalla sua condizione di uomo solo, che è poi la condizione del suo vigile e doloroso super io, per ritrovarsi parte di un ceto, di una classe, di una città ”. Altro pensatore, scrittore e poeta Siciliano, Gesualdo Bufalino, fornisce indicazioni interessanti sul senso che i Siciliani danno a questi eventi popolari tradizionali, egli dice “durante la Pasqua ogni siciliano si sente non solo uno spettatore, ma un attore, prima dolente e poi esultante, per un Mistero che è la sua stessa esistenza. Il tempo dell’evento è quello della Primavera, la stagione della metamorfosi, così come metamorfica è la natura stessa del rito nel quale, come in un racconto dell’Opera dei Pupi, si combatte la lotta del Bene contro il Male. Sono presenti l’Inganno, il Dolore e il Trionfo, la Passione, la Morte e la Resurrezione di Cristo”.
In breve, la Pasqua in Sicilia è una ricorrenza profondamente sentita in tutta l’isola fin dall’antichità, essa ha sempre avuto come fulcro la commossa partecipazione del popolo, con rappresentazioni e processioni divenuti riti e tradizioni che caratterizzano inequivocabilmente numerosissimi centri Siciliani, che rievocano i momenti più salienti narrati nei Vangeli e che ricordano la Passione, la Morte e la Resurrezione di Gesù Cristo, con cortei formati dalle varie confraternite (a volte con rievocazioni teatrali) che hanno in se contenuti e simbologie spesso provenienti dalla dominazione Spagnola, avvenuta in Sicilia tra il XVI ed il XVII secolo.
Quest’anno, in occasione del Venerdì Santo mi sono recato nel grazioso paese di Licodia Eubea (in provincia di Catania), inizio col dire che in questa processione prende vita, in forma statuaria, un personaggio unico che non si trova in nessun’altro luogo della Sicilia, si chiama “Ciurciddu” (tradotto “Circello”), egli tira con una corda legata al collo il Cristo mentre porta la Croce, questo tristo personaggio ha un profondo significato simbolico-allegorico, egli rappresenta “il Male che c’è nel mondo, il rifuto verso la Verità annunciata dal Cristo”, creandogli sofferenza tirandolo con la corda legata al collo. I ragazzi e gli uomini “portatori delle vare” si riuniscono tra loro, preparandosi al momento in cui, iniziata la processione, si realizzerà attorno alle ore 10:00 “ ‘a Giunta”, ovvero “l’incontro” dolorosissimo tra il Cristo (che porta la Croce, legato a Ciurciddu) e Sua Madre l’Addolorata (col cuore trafitto da una spada, immagine iconica di origine spagnola), durante l’incontro “avviene l’inchino o saluto” tra le due vare, è il Saluto che Madre e Figlio si fanno in uno dei momenti più caratteristici di questa processione. Mentre le due vare vengono portate in una antica chiesa, avviene un altro evento che caratterizza fortemente questa tradizione, ha luogo “l’asta della Croce”, il poter portare in spalla la Croce, del peso di 70 kg, fino alla Chiesa del Calvario (un lungo percorso in salita a raggiungere la parte alta del paese), viene messo all’asta, il maggiore offerente si aggiudica questa possibilità, dopodiché avviene un fatto straordinario: il devoto che si è aggiudicato l’asta viene abbracciato da numerosissimi paesani, con grande trasporto ed affetto, questo perché chi partecipa all’asta lo fa certamente per devozione ma anche possibilmente perché in famiglia ha avuto qualcuno con problemi più o meno gravi di salute, ed è per questo che le persone lo abbracciano e lo incoraggiano mostrandogli la loro vicinanza. Nel pomeriggio riprende la processione, adesso il Cristo è morto, si trova nella vara con l’Urna, ed è chiamato “ ‘ u Signuri ‘ a cascia” (col quale termine si intende “il Signore nella cassa da morto”), le due vare (il Cristo morto e Sua Madre l’Addolorata) vengono portate in processione fin sopra la Chiesa del Calvario, dove la pesante ed antica Croce portata in spalla dal devoto è stata issata, qui, anche se il Cristo è morto, avviene la Crocifissione, il mistico momento è accompagnato da antichi canti-lamentazioni ad opera dei cantori dell’associazione SS. Crocifisso; successivamente il Cristo viene deposto dalla Croce nell’urna, e ridiscende nel centro del paese, ove nella chiesa dei Padri Cappuccini il popolo dei devoti “ fa ‘ a Paci co’ Signuri”, atto di riconciliazione e richiesta di perdono innanzi la figura del Cristo Morto. Successivamente, in tarda serata, il Cristo e Sua Madre vengono condotti nella Chiesa Madre.

Photographer Wayne D. Hills writes, “This was a Friday, and as a spare train dispatcher I sometimes had odd days off from work, and this was one of them. It was a gorgeous day, so I headed to East Deerfield to do a little rail fanning. While standing on the bridge at the West end of the yard, when the 1178 showed up with two cars and a buggy, and I turned around to the West side of the bridge to see where they were headed. Yikes! They were headed down to the Turners Falls Branch! I knew of this photo opportunity beforehand, as a couple of friends had taken similar shots. I ran to the car and shot them crossing the Connecticut River, then headed down to find the golf course. Parking out of the way of traffic, I walked up on the bridge over the tracks and waited. And waited... They couldn’t have been doing more than 5 or 10 miles per hour down the branch, and it took quite a while for them to show up.
“I was hoping for a good shot with lots of sun, and luck was with me, although I kept my fingers crossed as a cloud started to cover the sun. I used two cameras that day; a 35mm camera with slide film, and also a medium format camera, which I usually used with black and white negative film, but this day I had slide film in that camera as well. The attached scan is from the medium format slide. One of the slides I took that day was published in the book Boston & Maine, Forest, River and Mountain by Robert Willoughby Jones. The date in the book is in error; it should read July 22, 1977, not 1997.”

You’re looking at a 1938 Cadillac 75 2-Door Convertible which just about didn’t make it off the drawing boards, as far as this composite goes. Both, the picture of the large barn-like structure in the background and the picture of this ’38 Caddy were recorded at the Grand Experience classic auto show at the Gilmore Museum in 2014 ……….but at different times, different locations and under slightly different lighting condition. The “time and place” posed no particular problem but the lighting conditions were the challenge which, quite frankly, I believe I have not fully overcome. Shadow, shadow……everywhere a shadow,

I told myself I would never attempt to place a car into a mixed lighting area (part sunlight, part in shadow) but as you see I did and although I attempted using about fifty different mixed shadow effects (as reflected on a portion of the car’s body by the tree on the far right), nothing looked right or believable. At somewhere around fifty, I threw up my hands and said - well, you don’t really want to hear what I said so let’s just say, I was at my wits end. I am sure if one looks at this scene critically, one will spot the inconsistencies, so don’t look at this scene critically. Just squint your eyes and imagine that everything in the picture is hunky-dory.
I believe the following, which was obtained from the conceptcarz web site pertains to ‘this particular car’ but without having the chassis number, I can’t be positive. Here is what conceptcarz/Daniel Vaughn writes I believe about, this car.

For 1938, Cadillac moved the headlamps into the front fenders for the up-market Series 65 and Fleetwood Series 75 models. The bodies became more curvaceous than that of the prior models, particularly from the rear. Optional dual sidemounts covers were hinged to the fenders. Quarter windows were sliding rather than hinged construction. Technical innovations for 1938 included column shift, a transverse muffler just behind the fuel tank, new wheels, a hypoid rear axle, horns hidden behind the grille, and a Synchro-Flex flywheel.
The Series 75 was given an increase in compression which lifted horsepower to 140. * Sporty looking but certainly not a speed demon.
This particular example wears an older restoration and painted in a soft yellow color. There are wide whitewall tires, a tan cloth top and refinished chrome accents. The interior upholstery is dark brown leather, and the dashboard is dark chocolate brown.
In 2008 this 1938 Cadillac Series 75 Convertible Coupe was brought to RM Auctions 'Vintage Motor Cars of Meadow Brook' where it was estimated to sell for $75,000-$100,000. A high bid of $65,000 failed to satisfy the reserve and the car was left unsold.

When I visited my daughter on March 20 2011, my grandson, Aidan, was telling me about this bird with babies. I was excited and asked him to show me. He took me outside his home and pointed up - "there they are".
Wow - I saw how cute they were and grab my cam from the car.

The lady who bought the pic had a hard time tracking me down becos the person who downloaded this pic from my Flickr account without my knowledge, plastered this all over the internet and change my name from Ric Seet to Rik Seet. So no one can track the originator down. Now others are profiteering from this scam and here is the link to one such websites. You pay them to download my stolen pic:

This is one of the downside of the internet. To prevent such future mishaps, I have since disabled the download feature under Privacy & Settings. Base on the feedback this is not even safe. Additional advises is to add Watermarks and reduce file size to 800X800. From what I am hearing nothing is save on the net.

I managed to write to a few websites/blogs via email and FB.
1. A friend responded on FB and apologize for posting the pic on FB for Mother Day.
2. An Australian cyclist by the name of Craig plaster the pic for 2012 Mother Day. I wrote to inform him that the pic is my and he blocked me off immi'ly. Isn't that just great, steals your pic and ignores you!
3. What's even more interesting is Pixdaus.com has an option for you to complain if your are the owner of the intellectual property. Isn't this a laugh. I presume they believe they excuse themselves of any legal obligation in the eyes of the law by having this feature on their website! I have written to them and waiting for their reply.

Today a caring Flickr friend brought to my attention that the above pic was stolen again and this pic was posted on Flickr. Wrote to the person to delete my picture which was done. Not a word of apology.
These people have no shame - steal other pictures and post it like theirs. Even took part in invites and participated at the various levels of award to claim credit for themselves.
here is the link if this shameful person and I have seen another couple of stolen pics as well becos they are too skillful for him. Even wrote to advise that these be remove. I am contacting the legal department of Yahoo in Singapore and making a few suggesting to them to apprehend such people.

I have been searching for the photographer who took the absolutely beautiful photo of the colorful momma bird with it's babies under its wings. I've actually been praying I would find the original photographer. I won't get into the details, but for the last almost 2 years, I've been going through a really hard time with my health due to a horrible medical mistake that I suffered at the hands of a doctor. I will not let anyone tell me I am not going to get better. My husband and my son need me back. This picture holds such meaning for me...I've found it on other websites, which I am so sorry that people are stealing your work, and I have gone back to look at it a lot over the last several months. It brings me great comfort and the colors are just so beautiful and bright. I was wondering if it would be possible to buy a large print of it from you so that I can frame it and have it matted with a verse so I can look at it every day in my house. Would you mind letting me know if it's possible to buy a print from you? If so, what are the size proportions that you could print out for me? The place I want to hang it could handle an overall size of 24"x24" or 24"x28", which would be framed and matted with an inscription matted under it. Hopefully that description makes sense. Would you mind contacting back?

I must write out a 100 times: 'I must keep it simple'. I never seem to manage it. I think I just about got away with this - the harsh backlight, the strobe through brolly which kept falling over on camera left at about 1/4 power and one other strobe that had already fallen in the drink. Still, marvellous shoot with an amazing model: Ella. And we tried a concept part to this location which I will get round to adding.

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

One of my favourite ever Big Carp covers, a young Terry Hearn with what was then the biggest carp in the UK at the time Mary. From Wraysbury1 120 acre lake. In the days when there was only an handful of carp in there. Though the lake now as huge amounts of carp in, and the lake is much more smaller, and more than ten times easier to catch from now.
For those who have asked, have I ever had anything published before.
I had the old Loaded magazine years ago ask me about the days of the 'Casuals', and how we brought in clothing from countries like Italy. Maybe I will write about that another time.
Maxim magazine wrote a small piece about me once catching big catfish.
Though my own personal hand written stuff, started with some short comedy pieces in local rags, and then onto mainstream newspapers like the Daily Mirror. It was only letter page stuff though, but they printed it. I can write about most subjects.
Though it's fishing magazines I have had most of my articles printed in.
I used to have my own underground OTT fishing newsletter get passed around lakes all over the UK, and some did make it as far as Europe, Canada, America, New Zealand and Australia. Purely from anglers passing them on when going on fishing holidays.
Cos of this (Excuse my bad English). I ended up in fishing magazines. Rob Maylin of Big Carp Magazine is the only one to ever print one of my serious articles in a fishing monthly. Though in them days they were bi-monthly's.
Though Rob was the first one to have the balls to print my real crazy stuff. From Dr Kibble's Approach, Kibble's Column, Bivvy Babe Sideways Sally, Jimmy Old Jokes, Some Carp Casualties, Kibble's Creations, Kibble's Kartoons, to Kibbles Krumpet. The list is endless.
A long time ago now. I wrote a 12 page article in Big Carp magazine, it was more like an hour of stand up than fishing. Many anglers still go on about that to me to this day, when I bump into them on my travels. Some of them are anglers I don't even know.
Kibble's Krumpet come about after a fishing website I had. The website was full of funny anglers, big and small captures. Size of fish didn't really matter. Loads of crazy story's. There was topless and nude models on it as well. At first I used to take the photos myself, but in the end other websites give me free photos of models, in return I had to put them up as a link on my website. I never put up any pornographic stuff though. All nude models had to be over 21. It was popular. I had to close it down in the end. It just got to popular, and the website hosts started to want more money off of me, because they thought I was running it as a business. I just started it as a joke, and that is all it ever was. Nothing was ever sold on it.
There's no point sending my type of material to some editors. If they are boring old farts with no sense of humour. Your just wasting your time. I know Rob Maylin gets me, he has a good sense of humour, and he is a bit of a geezer.

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

this is about learning how to speak again, after all these years.

now that i have a free moment, i'd like to write indepth on the details that went into creating this.
this is not a photograph, though it was made of bits and pieces of real photographs, it is not in whole a photograph. hours and hours of time went into building this design up into what it is. the girl is not real nor has ever been in any litteral sense of the word. but she is a girl who lives in the heart and is real for me and i believe many other girls.
while it is true that a face was used as the base for this - her eyes, lips, nose, everything about her was collected from pieces of photos which i have. why i say built, because she was built and from my imagination she came and was born to represent what i felt best expressed the message i yearned to deliver.
I spent many days, those days turned into weeks as i set it aside, finally unable to continue, only to start again another day. i remember this one moment when it was almost done sitting back in the dark late at night and crying just to look at it.
very hard most times for me to look at much less continue working on.
and that is when you know that something either means something or it does not -
when you feel something towards it, be that sorrow or anger.
one last thing i'd like to note is the song, silent lucidity by queensryche throughout kept me from slipping into any dispassionate state and kept me centered right in the heart of focus.

Situated in the middle of Wellington Harbour, Matiu / Somes Island has a colourful history...
Prior to the mid 17th century, there were two Maori Pa (or fortified settlements) on the Island; the remains of these can still be seen.
In 1839, the Island fell under the control of "The New Zealand Company" (a 19th-century English company that played a key role in the colonisation of much of the greater Wellington region), and consequently, the Island was renamed after Joseph Somes, the Company's deputy-governor and financier at the time...
In 1866, the first harbour light house was built on the southern end of the Island; in 1900, this was replaced by the one that is still in use today.
From the 1870s until 1920, the Island was used as a human quarantine station; Settlers arriving from overseas had to spend time here if they were suspected of carrying infectious diseases. In 1893, the Island became New Zealand's most important quarantine station, and it remained an animal quarantine station until 1973.
The Island is now a scientific Reserve which is open for the Public to visit, and it's well worth while making the effort to get there!
So... Here it is: Matiu / Somes Island,in the middle of Wellington Harbour, with central Wellington and its western and southern suburbs nestled behind it. And no: this vista wasn't taken from a drone. It was taken from the top of the road that goes over the Wainuiomata Hill to the suburb of the same name...
As I've said before: you can't beat Wellington on a good day...!

Main story

That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

The Women's Rights Pioneers Monument is a statue in Central Park that pays tribute to three New York women who dedicated their lives to the advancement of women's rights in the 19th century.

There's so much to say about 285 and one could write from memory for several pages, only to add that it belonged to a fleet of 67 buses that were perhaps the most photographed in Edinburgh, particularly in their last year in 2009 - surely no other buses enjoyed such a swan song as the P group 251 to 279 and 281 to 285 (the previous N reg group retired at the start of 2009) and that was probably due to three factors: the end of red leatherette seating, the end of traditional madder red and white livery and the beginning of the end of step entrance buses.
It's ten years since that memorable night at Glenlockhart in the gloom when 278 and 285 posed together - their last duties in service and the end of an era.
X285 is seen in Princes Street on the September running day between Haymarket and Eastfield.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。
