Canada geese with goslings on a pond at the University of Colorado's east campus. Several large snapping turtles living in this and neighboring ponds were keeping the number of surviving goslings to a minimum,
And there were other predators about that might take goslings too, including watersnakes, mink, weasels, bobcats, raccoons, foxes, coyotes, owls, hawks, bears, and even mountain lions, but still the geese are thriving. So much so that Denver has occasional goose round-ups...
I don't know what this behavior is about. The geese do it from time to time, but not always. I suspect they are trying to be less conspicuous by lowering their profile, but who knows?
So far, no word from the geese to clear this all up.
When I (along with 2 friends) visited the railway tunnels just northwest of the little stop Levishte, there wasn't a single railway picture to be found online made from this spot. Since the photo's from that visit came online, quite a few photo's have been made at this spot. It seems the younger generation isn't really looking for original shots, but rather seem to focus on quick easy shots. But since the location was really nice and I like the landscape for more than just the trains passing here, I also visited the Iskar Gorge every year since. In 2024 I visited the spot because of some regular diverted freight traffic in the area. Because of this I was able to make a few new shots. Which also included this one of the normal passenger train to Mezdra, which was still run my an old Skoda loco at that time.

If you're ever in the 'hood and need to go, we've got you covered.
During our kitchen reno, we do have access to our usual bathroom space. It's the contractor who installed this specifically for the work crews.

When leaving the river this morning I happened upon a pair of coopers hawks building a nest. One would stand guard while the other collected a branch or two. Now I just need to remember which tree this nest is in for the next time I visit!

When the fall colors finally arrive in the park, it’s time to keep track of the weather for some good shooting conditional. This day trip turned out better than expected. Clouds were constantly on the move with changing conditions that helped also to determine the quality of the light. While down on the river bank by El Capitan and Three Brothers, I spent about an hour and a half capturing various compositions with the constant changing conditions. Not being in a hurry to hit other areas paid off.
Nikon D810, 24mm, 1/50 @ f/11, ISO 64. Manual mode, mirror up, a remote release and a CPL was on the lens. Image was captured on October 23, 2021 a little after 4pm. On1 FR 2021 was used for the main processing in color, then several months later, Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 was used for the B&W version using the red filter preset and a few control points.

It's almost impossible to go through life without experiencing some kind of failure.
How will you deal with failure when you know it was your last chance?
I don't think a motivational speech is going to help here.
It can be hard for the people at the fringes of society - In the UK there were 2,440 people estimated to be sleeping rough on a single night in autumn 2021.
A cup of tea and a sandwich were welcomed; but I know they won't change this guys life. To provide real help is hard frustrating work.
Remember when there were four of us. We could take over the world. We were the in the heavens and the roads were our battleground. We were the elite. The top rated. Time has done it's job and the men who once owned the streets are now just an illusion.

I was stunned to see such a big and well-maintained monastery at such a remote place, where it used to take at least four days of trek to reach even a few years back, with just a small village having hardly fifty households.
Yes, Lingshed monastery is one of the oldest remote monasteries in Zanskar valley. It was established in the 15th century around the same time when Kasrsha and Padum monstaries were also established in Zanskar, a region of Ladakh, which still lies cuf off from the mainland in winter due to unbearably low temperature,
The new monstery has replaced the old cave monasteries.

When I did a photo-a-day project in 2012, I took a lot of photos of fences on Fridays for the "Fence Friday" Flickr group. It was always nice to have a fallback idea at the end of the week if I had nothing else in mind. Today I was struggling with an idea and knew I wasn't going to want to set something up tonight, so I went I saw this nice fence scene I thought, "Perfect! My first Fence Friday shot of 2016."
When we came down to breakfast this morning, our lounge was nice and warm, as the remnants of yesterday's fire were still glowing red in the wood-burner. I got some more wood from our log store (which started life as an outside toilet) and also a bucket of smokeless fuel, and within a few minutes the fire was blazing away and our Yorkie had taken up position in front of it. Our old farm cottage in rural Northamptonshire dates from 1668, and has thick stone walls and relatively small windows. It's the ideal place for the cold winter months. In March, we'll be returning to our holiday home up near the Cumbria border. Hopefully, by then the snow will have disappeared.

Liffey Head bog complex Wicklow
This was taken in 2008 when I had just bought my first DSLR but it did not originally look much like this - shot on auto, jpeg, no real composition, washed out colour.
It has been cropped and re-processed in photoshop (colour, light, de-noise and a few other things) and finally run through RNI Film app on iPhone to have a Technicolor look applied to it.
It is not an image that will appeal to many I suspect but I really like its simplicity in capturing Wicklow in winter - iron hard ground and glacial blue skies.
10th January 2013: After work today after a bath. One needs to find humor in all that each day brings to you. The parents came with their apologies at long last, I feel sorry for all those who remain in denial of the gifts they have been bestowed.

The boulders form with cracks that resemble a soccer ball. So when they break they crumble in sections.
Solitary sandpipers are not gregarious birds and are typically observed alone or in groups of twenty or less. When multiple individuals are together, they typically collectively defend intraspecific territories. While foraging for food on land, solitary sandpipers walk along in shallow water, usually around belly height, while nodding their head
