When it is late December in Oklahoma you take what green you can find.

As usual, I think LARGE VIEW is better on this pic.

I started to list the things necessary for this shot to work, but people don't come to a photo site to read a novel.

Here's the short version;

I made a few decent choices and got great cooperation from the osprey and mother nature.

After that I got really lucky.

This was the result.

Thanks for stopping by

When I drove up the South Lake Rd to the lake, I had to stop and capture these aspens. While I was taking pictures quite a few other photographers stopped to take in the color too. Someone was able to build a cabin just to the left of the waterfall. I don't know how they managed that, but boy, what a view they have. I continued up to the lake, but this was the best view on the road.

This doorway inside the NGV at Federation Square could well be the frame to a cubist work. In fact the whole building could be described as Postmodern Cubism.

Naturally, it chooses the décor. :)

This is a tiny 1:12 scale replica of the Vitra Eames House Bird, which was designed by Charles and Ray Eames and popular in the 1950s. It's made from resin and has incredibly skinny metal legs. Its tail and legs form a perfect tripod and help to make it surprisingly stable. The armchair and cushion are also dolls house scale. The cushion is just about 1" square.

Dollops of mist rise into the crisp morning air from the warmer, rippled and reflecting waters of Price Lake as sunlight strikes the warm autumn colors near the tops of the trees while leaving the trunks and undergrowth in cool shadows, a short hike off the Blue Ridge Parkway, near Blowing Rock, North Carolina.

This is one of those shots, I expect, which resonates much more with me as the photographer than with most viewers. A couple of weeks ago we had made a one-night run to the Blue Ridge Mountains for a series of short hikes seeking colorful fall scenes, and this morning before sunrise we had made the quick jaunt from the Parkway around Price Lake hoping to catch a scene including Grandfather Mountain lit with alpenglow rising over the lake with some clouds above and autumn interest in the foreground. As it turned out, the alpenglow on Grandfather was very nice, but the skies stayed completely clear and my efforts with the foreground fell short as well, so I started paying closer attention to the reflections near the shore as the morning sun first started to strike the brilliant fall leaves higher in the trees in one area. No doubt reflections of trees in gently rippled lakes are common, and most always pleasing, but something about the light and shadow, the warm and cool, and how the mist rose in little clumps struck me here, and I thought it made for something of an interesting abstract.

One other note: If you look closely, you will see a few leaves floating through the scene like little boats, and one in particular near the center right of the image. Tempting as it was to clone them out, I enjoyed watching them gently make their way across the shallows in the soft breeze and decided that they added just a little something to the photograph as they did to my enjoyment in being there.

Thanks for viewing!

When Via 72 rounded the curve at Hardy Road this afternoon with P42 917 on the point I was happy to see a non wrapped P42 in the lead.

917 is probably one of the nicest looking P42's on the Via roster which was why it didn't receive a wrap like most of the fleet.

Working on putting together a little blogpost from this day ♥

I had so much fun 'shooting up' the Monterey Aquarium with Connie. You may recall how much I love the jellies ... so it was where I spent the most time!

I did just a wee bit of sliding for this ... well ... maybe just a tad bit more than wee!!

Happy Sliders Sunday!

This was shot on December 20, the night before winter solstice.

I waited till the last light barely sweeped the horizon and highlighted the details on the waves and pebbles at Larkollen Bay, southern Norway.

My mission was to use the light in a specific way that only the objects just above water surface was lighted, while the body of water itself was cast in shadows.

A tribute to winter solstice you might say ;-)

The winter solstice (vintersolverv) occurs at the instant when the Sun's position in the sky is at it`s greatest angular distance on the other side of the equatorial plane from the observer's hemisphere. This means that from now, the days will be gradually have longer periods of daylight.

Worldwide, interpretation of the event has varied from culture to culture, but most cultures have held a recognition of rebirth, involving holidays, festivals, gatherings, rituals or other celebrations around that time.

The word solstice derives from Latin sol (sun) and sistere (to stand still).

I wish peace and happiness to every living being.

When the below freezing temperatures hit a week ago, I realized I hadn't yet bought a feeder heater for the hummingbirds. Time to improvise! I put a string of red Christmas lights (not LED) in a aluminum baking pan, placed a clear glass plate on that, and rested the feeder on the plate. These were placed on a little table next to my sliding glass door. Would the birds use it? They don't mind it! They come in to feed in the morning darkness, when it's around 20 degrees, and the nectar is still liquid. I would say my clumsy DIY is a success. Anna's Hummingbird.

We’re music themed.. or music challenged as in my case.

A wonderful morning on the summit of Hawksbill Mountain with Tommy White, watching a new day come to Linville Gorge and also enjoying a day starting without rain and thunderstorms. The roar of the river can clearly be heard from atop the mountain, even above the stiff gust of wind blowing around, making it difficult to steady the camera on a tripod. This morning had some special light, reflecting off the rising mist and fog covering the Catawba and Hwy 221 valleys…

This Blackbird was harvesting worms at quite a rate. One bigger one was putting up a struggle, so he put them all down, viciously stabbed troublesome one into pieces and collected them all again.

When he feels like he should be having his fun

Much too blind to see the damage he's done

Sometimes a man must awake to find that, really,

He has no-one...

My first shoot with Caroline was kind of a gift that keeps on giving. So many photos I'm happy with. That was a good day.
