When I was at the Lincoln Memorial for sunrise a couple of weeks back by chance it was the Equinox. And since the Memorial faces exactly east, the Equinoxes are the only times/year when the rising sun perfectly falls on Lincoln with the shadows of the pillars perfectly framing him.
When I look into the eyes of an animal
I do not see an animal.
I see a living being.
I see a friend.
I feel a soul.

For Project Soul Pancake: Build A Fort.
This was fun, although cold...so cold that it actually started to snow big huge flakes and I had a slight panic attack at the thought of winter arriving so soon! Thankfully I brought my mittens and only lit them on fire once while trying to set up the candles inside my blanket fort.
How do you get candle wax out of jeans?

What uses having a great depth of field, if there is not an adequate depth of feeling?

"You know they're switching up at Rome right now, right?" These were the words of a man who referred to himself as "Fox," who spoke with me as I was in South Haven, KS photographing the power there. "Uhh, no? Where is that, and how quickly can I get there," I replied?
Here, the EWLX 815, a 1963-vintage GP30 works its way back south to the elevator at Rome, KS after shoving a cut of cars up the Blackwell Northern Gateway Railway mainline to the north. This ex-ATSF line operates between Blackwell, OK and Wellington, KS, and the GP30 was built for the CNW, before going to the Fox River Valley & Western, and later the Wisconsin Central.
In talking with my dad, I honestly think that the last unrebuilt 30 I ever saw running outside of a museum WAS on the WC in Fon du Lac, WI in the late 90's. There certainly aren't many of them out there, let alone in WC paint.

I love to hear you say that you love me
With words so sweet
And I love the way with just one whisper
You tell me everything
And when you say those words
It's the sweetest thing I've ever heard
But when your eyes say it
That's when I know that it's true
I feel it
I feel the love coming through
I know it
I know that you truly care for me
'Cause it's there to see
When your eyes say it
I love all the ways that you show me
You'll never leave
And the way your kisses, they always convince me
Your feelings run so deep
I love the things you say
And I love the love your touch conveys
When the creeks and rivers swell with water it's a great time to go find hidden treasures like this one we found in the Alberni Valley. It was pouring rain when I shot this but I think it was worth it to get a little wet! My dad was a total trooper and held the umbrella over my camera while I shot this. Thanks Dad!
Thank you for Explore!
When this distant short lived storm developed, it was accompanied by a lovely smiling head (at center). Could this be a greeting or an omen?

When visiting Northern California beaches, dress in layers. That way you can remove your jacket when it starts getting hot, like here at Pacific Grove, just south of Monterey. Walking around in on this rocky beach will warm you up real quick.
As usual, I think LARGE VIEW is better on this pic.
I started to list the things necessary for this shot to work, but people don't come to a photo site to read a novel.
Here's the short version;
I made a few decent choices and got great cooperation from the osprey and mother nature.
After that I got really lucky.
This was the result.
Thanks for stopping by

When I admire the wonders of a sunset or the beauty of the moon, my soul expands in the worship of the creator.

“When photographing women, we have three paths: photograph them with the "male gaze” ; photograph them as "photographer eyes” and photograph them as "poet feeling”. I always try to be the three ...” by Old Roger
This doorway inside the NGV at Federation Square could well be the frame to a cubist work. In fact the whole building could be described as Postmodern Cubism.
When I was down at the beach recently before the storm, there was a flock of Silver Gulls and Crested Terns resting on the sand in between areas of people. I thought this one was lying unusually, with an adult standing nearby. I hope it was ok as it moved its tail feathers as I came closer but didn't move out of its hollow in the sand. Or lift it's head.
Up-loaded for this weeks theme for Macro Mondays. When I was a child my Father would not allow a television in the house. Instead he taught us many games and how to entertain ourselves. One of his favorites was Mahjong. Pictured here is the red and green dragon tiles - made of plastic not ivory.
