Last tuesday I went out for a bicycling trip, and around 21:30 pm, near Haastrecht, I doubted whether to go back to Schoonhoven, or make a quick detour to Gouda. I opted for the last. I forgot about the time, shooting on several places in Gouda (see this and this photo) and around 23:15 pm I started the 55 min. return trip to Schoonhoven.

Halfway on my way back I came past this location, the Boezemmolen no. 6 in Haastrecht, where I have photographed many times before. But, despite the late hour, I could not resist to stop and take some photos. I took only 6 photos, as I really wanted to go home. Of those 6, this one was the best. Never been there before at night, but will definitely come back someday!

Many thanks as always to everyone who passes by to view my photos and particularly to those who take the time to comment on or fave them. It is very much appreciated and welcome.

A bottle of beer, a glass of wine or a shot of whiskey? No go for the liquid gold - cider.

Drinking alcohol can be a great pleasure, but you have to know when you are "too relaxed".

The drinkers paradox: Unfortunately the difference between "mellow, relaxed" and a "gibbering idiot" can be slim. So when the room starts to blur you know its too late - or you would if it wasn't already too late.

Even seasoned drinkers can get caught out. Take care.

When not remember what happens to us,

the same thing can happen.

They are the very things that we marginalize,

memory kill us, we burn the ideas,

take away the words.

If history is written by the victors,

that means that there is another story,

the real story.

who want to hear let him hear.

They burn the words, they are silenced,

and the voice of the people will ever hear.

Needless to kill,

proof of death

that life exists ...

When I visited this nice waterfall with Benjamin Barakat and Marc Hoffmann, the hike through the forest near the waterfall was dodgy to say the least. The humidity in the air made the path dangerously muddy. We also had to cross a stream coming form a second cascade higher up.

When we finally arrived at our planned spot, there was so much spray in the air that my colleagues decided not to risk drowning their cameras. While they watched over my backpack, I grabbed my camera and tripod and headed a bit further up the slippery path to get clear of some trees blocking the view. 'View' is the wrong word though, as it was pitch black in the ravine.

In a seemingly clear spot, I set up my tripod and took a high ISO framing shot, blindly aiming towards the waterfall. The image that appeared on my LCD showed that the 28mm lens I had on was way too narrow for the scene. Shit.

I unscrewed my camera and headed back to my friends. In the half-zipped backpack I changed lenses, hoping that my sensor would stay dry. After stumbling back to my tripod, I was finally ready to shoot the scene.

I had to increase both ISO and exposure time more than I liked and when I finally got a half-decent looking histogram, my camera and lens were soaking wet. I decided to skip my usual sequence for stacking in order to leave the place while my equipment was still working.

Of course, I didn't capture the sky under such horrible conditions. I shot it in a dryer spot and the image is therefore a composite, but the alignment of the Milky Way is correct.

When I breakfast at Otter's Cafe on the Otterspool Promenade I see my trees. They are mine. Everyone can look but they are mine. I am in love with these two hawthorns whipping in the Mersey Valley wind. The day was grey and dull and I had in my mind a silhouette not too different to that at bottom left. There was nobody about and I braced myself to click. Suddenly I realised a child had intruded on my frame. He must have climbed the steep bank and I was disappointed at first but the result was the three nearer shots all from one click. In the silhouette he definitely adds something.

In Queensland and NSW the weather has been wild and wet. Constant flooding of homes so thought would think of When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Gets Going very applicable in the past months in this part of the world.

Living on the edge of the ranges get to view the weather from afar. Took a quick little drive yesterday morning as the weather was promising to break and so it did. This was taken from Ravensbourne National Park situated on the northern edge of the Darling Downs, Queensland, Australia. The body of water in the distance is the tail end of Wivenhoe Dam which supplies the city of Brisbane.

Autumn morning over the Île de la Cité.

The sun rises slowly above the river, painting the stones and bridges with light.

Between 8 and 9 a.m., the city awakens with a quiet breath.

In the heart of Paris, near the Hôtel-Dieu, where my grandmother once worked in the great laboratory,

I stood still, remembering.

This light, soft and golden, felt like a presence —

not only of the day being born,

but of her dedication,

of hands that once touched glass, measured time, healed lives.

The island carries echoes of those who gave their care in silence.

When I think of stars, I think of the Stars and Stripes.

After I got a flag out, I remembered that a silver coin I was given as a gift, had stars on it too. Unable to decide which subject to shoot, I combined them.

When I saw the forest between the fog, this colorful tree was immediately noticed in the middle of it, that looked really great

When we arrived in Nova Scotia, we did so at the tail end of Hurricane Lee. There were numerous devastating examples she had passed through, and this is one. Still in Yarmouth, and the southern tip of Nova Scotia, this fishing vessel appears to have suffered her wrath.

Now moored at a point more inland, I also wanted to include the hut as a supporting factor. While somewhat sheltered from the elements, repairs could begin at a safer distance from the once raging seas.

This is the color version of one of the images from my black and white series 'Into The Cypress Swamps' that won me the overall title in the Travel Photographer of the Year competition a few months ago.

This one also has a more panoramic look, which was not possible for the bw version as that one was part of a series. It’s my favorite shot of the series, clearly because I’m in it. And the light isn’t too bad either.

The image was shot with a remote control - the camera was on a tripod that I carefully positioned in the water.

If you would to see this amazing scenery yourself - we have set up the world's first Cypress Swamps photo tour to Louisiana and Texas. The 2016 tour is already fully booked, and there are only 6 spaces left on our three 2017 tours. If you're interested, don't hesitate and reserve your spot here: www.squiver.com

This is a unique photo adventure (until the usual suspects start copying us again) that will result in unique images. We will take you to the best spots and give you tons of tips on how to get the best results. And on how to prevent you from unwillingly donating your camera gear to the swamp gods - proper kayak technique! I know you’re interested, so why not have a look at the tour brochure here: ow.ly/R5fl1003dHi

Looking forward to paddling with you!

When the young monk Tsui-Yen felt that he had understood the essence of life, he left his teacher and traveled through China. Many years later, on his return, his master asked him: " Tell me about the essence of life". and Tsui-Yen replied: “When the sky is clear and the light plays in the waves of the water. The master looked at him and said: “You have grown old too, but you have not understood. Tsui-Yen lowered his eyes and asked his old master with a tear-streaked face: “Then please tell me what the essence of life is.” The master replied: “When the sky is clear and the light plays in the waves of the water".

I immediately thought of this story, which is typical for Zen Buddhists.

The remains of West Pier, Brighton

The wind was lifting up the clouds of steam from the valley that the storm earlier had caused, while the last rays of the setting sun colored the hat of the nearby peak. At the same time the junipers, located on the lake shores, were waiting still submerged for spring to free them up from the dead grip of the thick and heavy snow.

= = =

p.s. The remaining of the ice submerged into the lake and the junipers trapped under the water were solid enough to withstand normal human weight without yielding. The cracking sounds of slow melting ice and the bubbles popping-up on the surface from time to time reminded me not to force my luck too much and go any further.
