This blows my mind. Pipe sections are connected once they are placed. The black is the weld. Railroad ties sit under the pipe. Once set, pipes are x-rayed from above to check the welds.

Broken weld on my XLT Gold. This is the bracket that holds the right leg rest. Cycle is upside down for the photo.

Area high school students competed in the inaugural Carl Sandburg College Welding Competition held May 18 in Building G at the Main Campus in Galesburg. Teams from Galesburg, ROWVA, United, Monmouth-Roseville and Galva competed in the event.
So this is my Sprocketphone, for want of a better title. My first welding attempt ever, really. The coolest one this gal made shaped like a heart (a real heart), with strings inside it you could reach in and pluck.
Found in a vacant trade school: A 1942 Jam Handy instructional filmstrip on the delicate art of welding aluminum tubes.

here is the food dish plate welded to the 6"x2-3/4" plate that will connect it to the birdhouse housing- by this point, all welds have a straight bevel to allow for greater fusion and clean edge grinding without compromising fusion- it's not the prettiest weld but it'll do the job.
