A tricky bit of welding without an extra pair of hands: the derailleur mounting bracket was a handful. Wood is there to wedge apart the spring-loaded bits and hold them out of the welding zone.
Seen outside the industrial museum at Portland Basin, Ashton-under-Lyne. This representation of a long-legged bird (a stork?) has a beak made from a set of bicycle forks.
Area high school students competed in the inaugural Carl Sandburg College Welding Competition held May 18 in Building G at the Main Campus in Galesburg. Teams from Galesburg, ROWVA, United, Monmouth-Roseville and Galva competed in the event.
This is my brother welding. I love the light and colours in this. I found that you can just about look at it via camera, although you can't look straight at the welding fire. Makes a nice bokeh too with all the sparks flying :)

We're fired up about October, which marks the beginning of Manufacturing Month. To celebrate, we visited our welding bay, where students are studying and applying their skills at gas metal arc welding, also known as MIG welding.
