Area high school students competed in the inaugural Carl Sandburg College Welding Competition held May 18 in Building G at the Main Campus in Galesburg. Teams from Galesburg, ROWVA, United, Monmouth-Roseville and Galva competed in the event.

Something I've wanted to shoot for a long time, I finally got the chance last weekend. I was roaming around the Niles Canyon Railway maintenance yard when I saw a couple of guys welding on this car, one of the many pieces of railroad equipment being restored by an all volunteer crew.
Welds on an industrial stainless steel tank at Tide Point glow in fluorescent light. The site was once housed a Proctor & Gamble soap factory and is now an office park.
