My first experience using a strobe/flash in a studio setting... really my first experience using anything other than an on camera flash. This photo was taken during the Indy Photo Coach "Beyond the Fundamentals" class. Great class to help push you out of your comfort zone!
This week's challenge was a perfect opportunity to shoot a birthday portrait of my oldest son. So proud of the man he has become. #dogwood52 #dogwoodweek4

There will be a time when my little girl will care about her hair, there will be a time when my little girl will care about her body in a photo, there will be a time when a photo like this will not be able to be created. I cherish this time.
This week's theme was chosen by my talented friend Ruth, the theme being blue. It was hard, and not exactly my best work I feel, probably because I used the wrong lens for the job. But here we are.

The school year continues to go well. Olive looks forward to school and is definitely more interested in reading and language. They planted vegetables in their garden recently and Olive really enjoyed telling me all about it. Occasionally she’ll be the last to leave (she never, ever wants to go home) and she’ll help Ms. Nancy water the plants.
She’s become a bit more loud and dramatic, she’s got the little girl screech down, but mostly she’s stayed true to her personality while also coming out of her shell more. She likes to talk about her friends from school and seems to gravitate to the same girls who were in her class last year. I’m looking forward to her conferences so I can gain insight to how she plays at school. Last year our class was a co-op so I spent a good amount of time in the classroom and observed her frequently. This year, I really don’t know how she behaves in class. I suspect it’s much like with her non-school friends. She’s not really into group play or rough housing. She’d rather sit with a dollhouse than run around. She’ll often come around and check out what everyone is doing but doesn’t actually want to get into the fray of things.
Lately, she loves to play at home. She never wants to stop playing to go to school or ballet but she’s happy to be in the car and on her way once we convince her that she will be coming back to play with her toys soon. We have a wooden dollhouse, farm, castle and fire station and those are her favorite things to play with. She will sit and play and make up stories for a very long time. I loved that sort of play when I was little, too, so it’s exciting to see her enjoy it from such a young age.
Because she’s enjoyed painting at school so much, I’ve been trying to give her lots of time with paint at home. She uses her easel a lot and this week we gave her pumpkins to paint.
On Sunday, we were scheduled to pick pumpkins at the patch with our friends. As we drove there is started to rain pretty heavily. Everyone was disappointed because rain wasn’t in the forecast and it’s hard to get the group together, especially on the weekends. The kids were not deterred though. Olive and Graeme, both Open Door kids, were prepared with rain gear and undaunted by puddles or rain. Everyone had a great time and the cool temps and cozy clothes just made it feel more like fall. After jumping in puddles, it was time to go into the fields to pick pumpkins and then head for the play area. Olive’s favorite thing was probably the hay ride, she’s super fond of them.
In the car this week: “I want that moon, mommy. I can’t reach it. I have an idea! Next time I’ll take my wings and you can take yours, too, and we’ll find two moons.”
Ripon Cathedral is commemorating the Holocaust by hosting a major art installation called 6 million+, Every Person Counts.
The artwork is made up of six million buttons, each one representing someone killed in the Holocaust. The '+' refers to Jewish and non-Jewish individuals who were never counted, as well as people who have died across the world in conflicts and genocides since the Second World War.
It was originally commissioned from Leeds-based artist, Antonia Stowe, by Kirklees Museums & Galleries for their Holocaust Memorial Day commemoration in 2006.

I wiped Lin's faceup when I was giving Knox her bath, I was waiting until she had a new faceup to take the photo, but I've been too busy to do it.
I also haven't had time to work on Nattie's wig... why, why can't there be 6 more hours in every day?...
