Project flickr 11-15-14: Week 47: RELIGION
Watauga Presbyterian Church, founded as Willow Springs Cumberland Prebyterian Church in the 1850s and reorganized in 1867, then renamed Watauga Presbyterian Church in 1896.
Outside the frontier church stands an historical marker naming the courageous families who founded the church when there was nothing but acres of prairie land. Along side of it sits the old farm bell donated by descents of the Keating family, one of the first handful of pioneers to settle in Watauga. On Sundays, the iron bell can be heard clanging as the current youngsters at the church take turns pulling and tugging on its handle to remind neighbors that the preacher has arrived.
The spirit of this frontier church has continuously served this community for approximately 130 years. Services are still held at 9 a.m. every Sunday.

I was looking for a photo for this week's EPZ Challenge (X,Y or Z). The guy on the left had just asked me about a statue (luckily Lux school kids speak good English!) and I said I would take a photo of his mates for my project and he photo-bombed me brilliantly!
Thanksgiving week was a swirl of contradictions for Olive. On the one hand, she became bashful when she never was before. She only wanted me or Ryan to hold her. My brother's poor family didn't get a lot of time with her when she wasn't whining or fussing. Our normally even-tempered, super laid back and happy baby was nowhere to be seen for most of the week. Equally as odd was the fact that she'd wake up every night before 10pm crying for Ryan or me. If my mom went in, she would just cry more and if my mom tried to give her a bottle during that wake up, she was equally upset. This was our first glimpse at separation anxiety. Unlike at home, Olive needed to see Ryan and I to be able to go back to sleep. I guess a new tooth coming in plus so much disruption to her routine was just too much for her.
On the other hand, Olive's confidence grew exponentially! She was turbo crawling everywhere! Bouncing from one surface to another and speed crawling from room to room. Olive began truly socially waving. She'd wave hello and goodbye to everyone we met and become obsessed with waving at Christmas trees. She was easily pulling up and only holding one with the tips of a finger or two while she pulled toys out of a basket or reached for something she wanted. She began clapping when asked and at appropriate times and she stepped her dancing up a notch.
The biggest event for her dad was taking Olive up in the Sky Wheel in Myrtle Beach. She loved it! She pressed her hands and face up to the glass and looked down from the very top. Ryan was so excited that she liked the ride; he really wants her to become his riding buddy on all of the amusement rides I refuse to go on. I'd say we're off to a good start.
Clean v dirty! No proper photography for me this week now on account of this lot to clean up - you can only imagine, it's even come up through the floorboards!
'maybe if i put my toy here and look cute you'll stop watching tv and play with me'.. damn that cute face ;)
52 weeks project, round 2 - here I come.
I feel like I didn’t really evolve with this project last year because I didn’t put enough effort into it and I sort of just took photos to be able to upload something. So my new year’s resolution is to really step out of my comfort zone this year, to use new models, plan shoots beforehand, to really think of ideas.
(Also, this is a terrible scan, I'm sorry. I will rescan this later maybe. I also just realised I wrote the date down wrong...)

The people in this nearby house (across from the Ilda Marker) attended the ceremonies in honor of the "Forgotten Souls".
Soon after the discovery of the cemetery, the lawn of this house sprouted beautiful plantings of Prickly Pears (as seen in the photo), and rocks were added in interesting formations. Little by little seasonal flowers were added as were beautiful small trees and shrubs. Look closely at the exotic fruits that are dangling from the little trees. The white puffs are cotton plants!
The garden surrounds the whole front yard and is growing in size as it extends to the back of the house. It really is beautiful and has interest and color throughout the four seasons.
Neighbors say that the exotic garden (my words) was started in honor of the people buried at this corner/area.
San Francisco Fleet Week 2016 finished with a bang on Sunday, with another spectacular airshow, featuring (among others) the Bretling Jet Team, The Patriots, and the Blue Angels, who were competing to see who could get the most "wow" moments with the crowd!

Knox College students held a crafts and natural food festival on the Gizmo Patio and South Lawn of Old Main to celebrate Earth Week 2014.
Week 45/52 ~EP Project 52 ~ "Motion"
Here I am yet again using my poor husband (you guys tired of him by now I am sure) because I find myself at the end of the week with NOTHING. AND NOW since it is dark by the time I get home it becomes even harder. Ahhhh....the life of a full time accountant with the desire to be a full time photographer......LOL
So my dear friends, we find ourselves on week 45......WEEK 45!!! Where has the year gone for heavens sake. I just can't believe it. But I digress. .......here is my main squeeze showing us motion. Light coming from the back towards me (a floodlight) as he strolls. Used the bulb setting for a few seconds. (settings below) I did have a different photo that I did this morning, but I sent both to Don and he picked this one. After all, he is my main guinea pig. Its been a pretty long week and haven't had time to take pictures so wanted to put this one up for a while lol! hope you guys are having a good week and have a good weekend :)
Sharon (@sharritta) at 365Project.org challenge me this week to do a forced perspective shot.
I decided to combine that with a field trip to Victoria's Bug Zoo that I went on with an old friend.
I'm spending this week developing my professional web site (finally!), so I'm going to infill with some of the really groovy bug shots that I got on the weekend with my old friend LP.
This lady tarantula was quite tame. I even held her, which surprised me, as I'm quite terrified of spiders. Our guide put me at ease.
The Bug Zoo doesn't allow tripods, so lighting was definitely a challenge. I lost about 1/3 of my shots to camera shake and insufficient exposure. My macro lens opens up to f/2.8, but there's a lot going inside that lens that reduces its light output, so it's not a particulary fast f/2.8.
My VR macro lens has a 12" minimum focusing distance (close enough for me, thank you), which renders a wonderful 1:1 close up. However, as with any lens when you get this close, your DOF declines exponentially. Even at f/29, there's very little depth of field, and I couldn't get anywhere close to that, as it either forced an exposure too long to hand hold, or reduced my light to nothing when using the on-camera flash. I couldn't push it much past f/8.
Pushing the ISO to between 1600 and 2000 helped to shorten the shutter speed, but introduced a LOT of noise into the shot. Lightroom helped to mitigate that, but the adjustment brush liked to pick up the noise when Auto Masking while selecting each bug, making selection much more tedious.
I think next time I go, I'm going to rent a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens. That should give me additional working distance, and provide me a greater depth of field at the same framing. I've shot with it before, and it's a *very* fast lens.

This week's theme was "light".
I was able to get out and take a photo. <3 Brian and I were taking back a movie and I asked him to pull over on the side of the road so I could snap a photo of the headlights and streetlights. It was so cold and windy; I think that the cold front has finally reached us.
This photo made me think of a song by The Postal Service called "Sleeping In". I haven't listened to them since I was in high school; it brought back so many memories. I especially recalled sitting in the cold underneath the bridge by the river with close friends listening to traffic pass over us.
It amazes me what can trigger your memories.
So, this isn't anything fancy or extremely creative...it was cold and I couldn't stand the thought of asking Brian to stand out in the cold with me longer than I already had. <3
Krishna the killer. So far, this week I've received five gifts. He's busy keeping the rodents at bay as the shagbark hickory nuts bombard my house and leave quite a meal for the rodent population. Krishna loves to curl up on my lap morning and night while I edit my photos (as a matter of fact, he's on my lap now.)
It was a toss-up as I love both of my cats and they are both adorable and loving. Here's the link to Ganesha lounging in the morning sunshine doing his daily ritual.
On another note, I have some catching up to do! I've missed my first two weekly challenges of the year. Will be posting "red" and "shapes" in the near future. Sorry I haven't had the time to give feedback lately either.

This week's theme: Shadow
Unfortunately, it has been grey, drizzly and overcast all week. I did glimpse a lovely shadow of a tree driving home from Welsh class on Wednesday, but the sun only broke through the cloud for a minute or two and anyway I didn't have the DSLR with me.
So... it was back to the still lifes.
I was playing around with this candle and some ornaments, trying to get a good shadow on the wall when I realised that the candle had its own rather appealing star shadow. :)
My first two contributions to a new photo challenge set up by LyndaHiggsPhotography, Meremail, SnapClickTripod, S_Freer and JSPhotography/Jenn, a 52 Week project with the aim of shooting and posting at least 1 image per week to a theme/topic.
These are my first two efforts. I'm kind of punching above my weight in hallowed company here!
