Raven arrived as a 12-week-old puppy on Sunday June 29th. We took him and Clay out for an evening walk to the field where he kept surprising Clay by jumping up high in the tall grass! I think they are going to have loads of fun together. Ansel is still thinking about it. But Raven is doing really great with his potty training and getting to know us and his new home!! He fits in perfectly!!
Summer hit her.
Memories were suddenly stirred from a dormant, untouched place by the heat, the light, the gentle air.
Like a group of resting birds introduced to a racing, screeching child with arms aloft, the memories flew to her eyes, ears, skin, nose; she saw, heard, felt, smelled the previous summer once more as if it had been but a month, week, hour ago.
The emotions of a thousand moments rushing through her head; She was taken from herself to this old yet now unfamiliar, unfriendly, tainted place.
These memories were not from her but her with him.
Scrabble. Park. Tent. Museum. Perfume. Rollercoasters. Teddy bears. Trains. The soft night air and raindrops in streetlight.
Now all these things were of him. Took her to him. But to the him in her mind, not quite the him she had known then. She saw it all through the wrong end of a telescope so it was distorted to unrecogition.
Summer screarmed at her how different it would be this year round.
I feel a bit weird posting that and it probably won't make any sense and is badly written but I thought it went with the photo and I'm going to shut up now.
slaine loves looking out of the window waiting for daddy to come home :)

You really need to look at it here. And I never ask this, so you know that it's a must.
Something completely different for once.
Usually I hatevertical photos, but this one is different.
But I am sorry for two weeks of black and white, but this just looked best in black and white!
Edit by the talented Elizabeth Brooke.
Two more in the comments!

we've had a poopy week. merrick was definitely under the weather on friday and saturday ... it was more than just throwing up and unearthly smelling burps ... you could tell he was in pain and something was definitely wrong. he was restless, couldn't settle for even a minute, low energy, not playing, not running, nothing.
took him in ... xrays showed gas, possibly enlarged spleen ... but the most alarming thing was the VERY low platelet count.
took him in again on Saturday for some follow up bloodwork, and although the platelets had come up a little, they're still very low. the vet (not my regular vet) on Saturday told me that where he was then (vs. Friday) was high enough that we're no longer concerned about him bleeding out. huh!? the previous vet never even warned me about that possibility!
of course, when i read any personal experiences on-line re. low platelets in dogs, you read about numerous trips to the vet's and then ... the dog is dead, bled out, internal bleeding, or something. i hate the internet sometimes.
hopefully we'll have more answers as the week goes on...
This was a difficult one! I wanted to find something really interesting but a busy week didn’t really have time to hunt for something. This is Richmond lock and weir and the technology is the machinery to make this work. Mostly hidden in this photo but I particularly liked the shadow on the footpath and the striking clouds.
on my day off i took slaine for a 2 hour walk to shipley glen, and because it was freezing there was hardly anyone around :o)
So, i know i originaly said i wouldn't use my work, but now two weeks in a row i have used it....
But im actually doing shoots i want to do, i wanted to go here over summer, but never got round to it! so here is one of the outakes :)
Our challenge for this week is CARING, any demonstration of caring you can think of.
The plant was backlit to explore the slight translucense of the green leaves and 45 degrees from the side for the plant, again, the hands and soil and for the shadow to fall on the palm of the hand.
Global processsing in LR where the luminance of green was increased and saturation slightly decreased, then to PS to clean up distracting elements and finishing in Color Effects Pro by Nik S/W.
For this week's shot, I wanted to find something which was completely natural landscape. So I headed yesterday to west Wicklow, about 30 minutes from where I live. The landscape there is basically bogland, punctuated by occasional trees and small streams. I've tried to capture that in this picture.
In summer, the landscape here is lush but in autumn, as the land transforms into it's more stark winter coat, the colours take on a brown and yellow tint. Here the colours are accentuated by the low setting sun which was to my right as I took this shot.
Well, it looks more like we only had two seasons this year but we really have four. ;)
Happy New Year to all of you.
Me and my husband just shared our 7th Wedding Anniversary this past week!! (July 30) Seven is my favorite number so I spent awhile trying to think of a cool photo for us to take to remember it by. Finally, last week I remembered this awesome mural in Nashville! The song below is "our" song (well one of them). My husband was in the Navy 5 of the years we were married, he just got out of the service a year ago! After his first deployment we met in Hawaii which was right after this song had come out. I swear someone wrote the song about our life! Since 7 is my lucky number and considered a lucky # to a lot of people I thought the lyrics would be perfect for our 7 year photo!
Do you hear me,
I'm talking to you
Across the water across the deep blue ocean
Under the open sky, oh my, baby I'm trying
Boy I hear you in my dreams
I feel your whisper across the sea
I keep you with me in my heart
You make it easier when life gets hard
I'm lucky I'm in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again
They don't know how long it takes
Waiting for a love like this
Every time we say goodbye
I wish we had one more kiss
I'll wait for you I promise you, I will
I'm lucky I'm in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again
Lucky we're in love every way
Lucky to have stayed where we have stayed
Lucky to be coming home someday
And so I'm sailing through the sea
To an island where we'll meet
You'll hear the music fill the air
I'll put a flower in your hair
Though the breezes through trees
Move so pretty you're all I see
As the world keeps spinning round
You hold me right here right now
I'm lucky I'm in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again
I'm lucky we're in love every way
Lucky to have stayed where we have stayed
Lucky to be coming home someday
I was 37 weeks pregnant in this photo. I have done belly casting and 3d/4d
sonograms with my past pregnancies, but never got around to a photo shoot
untill the third pregnancy. Photo taken by Allison Frate
Lens flares. I knew I wanted to incorporate them into my picture this week for the theme of light. They can add a dreamy quality to a picture, or make it look like a faerie is casting a magical spell. For this picture, a few elements fell into place perfectly. The time of day was crucial as well as the angle of the camera. I thought at first I was going to take my picture in this cemetery near my house, but the images weren't working out quite like I had wanted. Then I spotted this weedy patch near a cornfield adjacent to the gravestones, and thought, Yes! This is it.
Week#71 It took me all morning to do this. Figuring it out in Elements wasn't easy ...for ME! I finally got something that I liked. I wanted to make the plane smaller but couldn't do it easily...It actually was a fun challenge.
except for a bit of rain, the past couple weeks have been one of the mildest autumns we've enjoyed. After a few complications with my ruptured bile duct, then a blood infection that was hiding and took a while to find in a lab culture, and a week on IV antibiotics my gallbladder was finally evicted. I was hoping the past many months of ill health were coming to a close. Unfortunately, after a week of testing negative while admitted to hospital, I tested positive for covid on the 7th day. That cancelled my last ERCP to remove the blockages and shunt put in last month. Somewhat on hold with getting all fixed, but hoping to end 2022 much healthier. Through this all Halle Lu has been amazingly careful and attentive with me. Today I went outside for the first time and sat in a lawn chair with my real camera. Had my favourite 70-200mm lens on the Canon which I realized instantly was a mistake. Halle Lu was so excited to have me outside with her again she wouldn't go more than 10" away from me. Had to call my husband outside to lure her away. You can tell by the slight torquing of her front paw she held still for only a 1/2 second then raced back to me. She had a blast! I'm itching to be well enough to hike, play and be active with her again.
Halle Lu trivia: my husband Don needed to use chicken breast and lots of calling to get Halle Lu far enough away from me to take her pic
