VAN NUYS - Amidst sweltering summer heat, 83 members of the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to 7133 Mammoth Avenue on the afternoon of August 21, 2020, to battle heavy fire within a one story home containing excessive storage. They extinguished the flames in just 46 minutes, preventing damage to a neighboring residence. LAFD Arson Investigators are seeking to determine the cause of the non-injury fire.

This is a 1959 Citroen 2CV van I had from 1966 to 1968; I paid £50 for it, which, to me, was a considerable sum half a century ago. This photo of it was taken at Grimsby when I was driving down the east coast of England, on my way back from Scotland. In the right conditions this vehicle could just exceed 50 mph – not exactly fast, but on the other hand, it could do 50 miles on a gallon of petrol. This was not bad for an air-cooled, 2-cylinder engine of just 425cc.
At the same time I also ran a 1949 Ford V8 Pilot; the swept volume of just one of its eight cylinders was larger than the whole Citroen engine. But the V8 Ford was a real petrol-drinker – a trip to Scotland would have been somewhat expensive due to its 15 mpg fuel consumption. They were two quite different vehicles, and both very interesting to drive.
Behind the van is the Grimsby trawler GY109 Lord Cunningham, which was scrapped in 1967 – the same year I took this photo.
Vans Slipper with argyle design. These were my new shoes for the summer. Except they are a bit hot, as in too warm. Still a great shoe, as far as slippers go.

The 8th President of the United States, Martin VanBuren's statue is among the heads of the presidents that can be found at the old Adickes ScupturWorkx studio. One of the most unique and incongruous sights in Houston, Texas is found in the industrial neighborhood at the end of Summer Street. Neither a museum nor a park, an impressive group of large outdoor sculptures sits in a lot surrounded by Warehouses not too far off Washington Avenue near Downtown Houston, Texas. The lot next to the former location of Adickes SculpturWorx Studio is lined with 7-foot tall busts of most of the 43 Presidents of the United States and 36 foot tall statues of the musical group, The Beatles. The statutes are some of the works of sculptor and painter, David Adickes who is well know for his colossal statues of famous historical figures. Though Adickes actually closed his studio at the site in 2010, when he relocated to Huntsville, Texas, his statues are still stored here. They may get moved around and some may disappear at times as they are displayed somewhere but there is usually quite number present in the lot. Van Buren was President from 1837-1841.
