Street food scene in Harpenden, Hertfordshire. You would have your coffee in the open (it is plus 4 degrees centigrades) and the van serving it would have to be a nostalgic 1973 Citroen (a precious vehicle and properly secured). As if Brexit did not exist. Fuji X100F.

Paard van Marken is a lighthouse on the Dutch island of Marken. It stands on a headland in the Markermeer. As the building looks like a horse from a distance and with a bit of imagination, it is called Paard van Marken (English: Horse of Marken).

One of the many original names for Vietnam. This is a typical street scene in Ho Chi Minh City, pedestrians weaving in and out amongst street vendors, motor bikes & bicycles, the noise, smells, humidity and mayhem, and somehow it all just works. Gotta love it.

I haven’t been to Đại Cồ Việt, yep another old name, since 2016 when a mate & I explored Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand with a backpack.

Flying back to Đại Ngu (yep you guessed it , another name for Vietnam) early tomorrow morning for a couple of weeks. Can’t wait !

Stay well everyone , bon voyage

Thanks for any comments , always greatly appreciated.

The "Pyramid of Austerlitz" was built in 1804.

General Marmont had the pyramid built by the Franco-Batavian army, in tribute to his friend Napoleon Bonaparte. Inspired by his campaign to Egypt, Marmont chose a pyramid with an obelisk on top. This obelisk was made of wood and quickly fell into disrepair. In 1894 a new obelisk of stone was built.

Napoleon's brother Louis Napoleon, then King of Holland, gave the monument the name “Pyramid of Austerlitz” after the battle in today's Czech Republic.

"Last night my cover was blown on the children’s news:

Close your eyes long enough not to fall" van Binsbergen will never be actualized.

She will fade until she is a ghost, the narrowest tyre in the world,

unfindable in the catalogue.

Close your eyes long enough not to fall

in the library

it is a forest of cacti, don’t go back there,

take your beloved’s hand elsewhere

the playground is no place for pleasure.

The desire to change into a book shocks the young viewers

their parents reassure them: don’t worry, it will never happen.

Let my vision be free!

My vision is innocent!

The library is too shallow a grave

you’d go crazy from all the voices you heard there

and the shadows behind the shelves

are the result of trying to live normally for 3,000 years

in the hereafter – don’t go back there.

For everyone the book they deserve:

my friends have become encyclopaedias

and the odd boiling manual

they are undead and hungry but ultimately

just something you can pick up

and put down next to your bed, turn off the light

for a night that serves the day

in which everyone lives and belongs to the world.

I will never become real."
