A recent American Pickers show was about a long Metro Van like this that was used by Aerosmith for many years in the early days. This one seems to say Standard Dairy Limited in green letters above the windshield. These vans were made from 1938 to 1975.
Paard van Marken ist ein Leuchtturm auf der niederländischen Insel Marken. Er steht auf einer Landspitze im Markermeer. Da das Gebäude aus der Ferne und mit einiger Fantasie wie ein Pferd wirkt, wird es Paard van Marken (deutsch Pferd von Marken) genannt.
Paard van Marken is a lighthouse on the Dutch island of Marken. It stands on a headland in the Markermeer. As the building looks like a horse from a distance and with a bit of imagination, it is called Paard van Marken (English: Horse of Marken).

This is a mural by artist Simon Whiteowl. It's one of several murals on the walls of the Itty Bitty Inn located in North Bend, Oregon. I like how he incorporated the hotel windows into the picture.

De voormalige Van Nellefabriek aan de Delfshavense Schie in Rotterdam geldt als het voornaamste industriële monument in Nederland. Dit is als zodanig ook wereldwijd erkend, toen het in juni 2014 tot UNESCO werelderfgoed werd verklaard. De voormalige fabriek van firma Van Nelle, ontworpen door Leendert van der Vlugt van het architectenbureau Brinkman & Van der Vlugt in samenwerking met constructeur Ir. J.G. Wiebenga, is een schoolvoorbeeld van het Nieuwe Bouwen.

Van 4 t/m 6 september 2024 konden mijn treinenspotmaat en ik eindelijk weer eens samen op pad. De weervoorspellingen voor ons "treinenland" Tsjechië leken drie dagen op een rij perfect en qua werk en privé pastte het ook net. Er stond weer (te) veel op het programma en er konden weer lekker veel treinen en stekken worden afgestreept. Er werd cargo gescoord aan de hoofdlijnen en steeds meer verdwijnende klassieke tractie aan de "kleine" diesellijntjes werd tussendoor ook meegepakt.
Zaterdag 7 september reden er rond Praag veel historische dieseltreinen in het kader van de PID-dagen. Er werden o.a. een 751, een 744 en een 820 ingezet. Op de lijn tussen Hostivice en Praha-Dejvice werd één van de helaas weinige geschikte stekken opgezocht om de 751 te fotograferen. Een andere stek bij het fraaie station Praha-Ruzyně was niet bruikbaar, omdat er teveel schaduw is rond deze tijd van het jaar. Deze lijn gaat de komende jaren ingrijpend veranderen door de ombouw van de diesellijn naar een elektrische lijn met als eindpunt de vlieghaven van Praha.
Hier zien we de zeer fraaie Bardotka T478 1148 (751 448) met Os 91171 Hostivice- Praha-Dejvice bij Řepy passeren op 7-9-2024. De locomotief is met bouwjaar 1969 een echt klassieker! Achterop loopt de 749 250 mee die op de terugweg de tractie levert. Heel mooi om deze prachtige locomotieven te horen en te zien!
Van 21 tot en met 29 juli waren er werkzaamheden tussen Uitgeest en Zaandam. De houten dwarsliggers werden vervangen door betonnen dwarsliggers, ook werd de ballast vervangen. Veel aan- en afvoer treinen reden via Uitgeest en Haarlem, zo ook Volkerrail met vuile ballast.
Hier komt de 203-4 met een sleepje platte wagens beladen met vuile ballast langs Heemskerk als trein van Uitgeest naar Maarssen. Onderweg verloor de de trein flink wat lading, in de vorm van stof :p

The Red Apple (KCAP Architecten & Jan des Bouvrie) straight up. Apart from the verticalism, a prominent design feature of the Red Apple is the red aluminium 'misaligned with tonal variances' facade cladding.

Soma Coffee comes with readymade memories of caravan holidays in the 1960s. The coffee is great, but despite the name it does not include the drug "soma" that was issued in Aldous Huxley's dystopian novel, Brave New World.
I know it's been ages since I've made any images to upload mostly because I'm not able to get a decent sized image to work with without crashing atleast a zillion times before. But all this aside, I've made these two hats for " Art In Hats" an event that I'm sure you'll be hearing more about pretty soon!

In het gebouw: een paar van deze foto's - achter glas - geven een aardig beeld van de werksituatie in deze fabriek. Rechts zijn de zakken te zien die aan een transportrail hangen. Nadat deze gevuld waren gingen ze via één van de luchtbruggen richting de expeditie. Op de foto zijn ook nog een paar grote weegschalen te zien. Aan de haardracht van de dames is duidelijk te zien dat deze foto uit de jaren 1940-1950 stamt. Druk op de 'L' toets voor de vergroting.

The Van Brienenoord Bridge (Dutch: Van Brienenoordbrug) is a large twin tied-arch motorway bridge in the Netherlands. Located at the east side of Rotterdam, it crosses the New Meuse (Nieuwe Maas), a major distributary of the river Rhine. The bridge actually consists of two separate, parallel, and almost identical arch-bridges, as well as a set of three parallel bascule bridges on the north end.
The bridge carries 12 lanes of traffic of the A16 motorway, the busiest highway in the Netherlands. Additionally, on the outside of the east arch, a two-way segregated cycling bridge has been mounted.
Including lead-up ramps, the Van Brienenoord Bridge is 1320 metres long and vessels with up to 24 metres air draft can pass under the closed bridge. With a span of 300 m, the west arch is the longest span road bridge in the Netherlands.
The east arch (287.5 m long) was built in 1965, constituting the original Van Brienenoord Bridge. In 1990 the bridge received a major upgrade, by the addition of a second, almost identical arch (305 m long and slightly broader) right next to its west flank, doubling its traffic capacity.
The bridge is named after the Eiland van Brienenoord (Isle of Brienenoord) in the river, on which some of its pillars are built. The little island was named after its former owner, baron Arnoud Willem van Brienen van de Groote Lindt in 1847. The Dutch suffix oord means a place.

A Coca Cola delivery van in Oslo in 1938. Norway was, in addition to Australia, Austria and South Africa, one of the countries where Coca Cola was introduced in that year. (Neighboring country Sweden had to wait until 1953.) My partial colorization of Anders B. Wilse´s photo in the Norsk Folkemuseum archive (Digital Museum).
