El Campanar Municipal és un dels símbols identitaris més estimats de Gant. Construït entre el 1313 i el 1380, exhibeix ufanós els seus noranta-un metres d’alçada que el fan el campanar d’espadanya més alt de Bèlgica. De fet, des del 1442, gràcies a la seva privilegiada altària, es va fer servir com a torre de guaita. Un altre dels usos que se li ha donat a la monumental construcció ha estat el de la custòdia dels furs i privilegis municipals. Al capdamunt del pinacle que corona el campanar, un meravellós drac daurat vetlla, des del 1377, per la ciutat.
