I've shot on the Blair a few times but never on Arlington Hill. Paul being the chauffeur led us to this spot, where a short hike into the field awards you with a beautiful view in the afternoon light. Sam broke off here and Paul, Ryan and I booked it west to catch him one more time coming under 275 into Fremont before we headed home for the day.

UP 9774 West at MP 24.5 on the UP Kansas Sub earlier this evening as the sun was going down behind the massive smoke bank to the west. I was already headed home when I saw this thing light up and knew that it was a rebuild so I decided to chance the bad light. It was still shootable light at this point, but about 10 minutes later it was washed out crap.
68017 top-and-tail 68003 working the 17:45 (2C40) Carlisle to Barrow service kick up sand as the train heads along the scenic Cumbrian coastline at Seascale, with the golf course on the right.
After taking a short hike and bagging a shot down below along the tracks, I was walking back to my car and I looked up the hillside from the curves and thought maybe there would be a shot from up there. Knowing a second south bound was on the way along Union Pacific's Black Butte Sub, I decided to take the gamble on up the steep hillside cliff and hope a shot would turn out somewhere. Luckily it was only about a 10 minute climb and giving off quite the view. Dorris, California

While most of us are eagerly anticipating turning the calendar page tomorrow of our sanity-testing month in Minnesota, eagle mates are actively fixing up nests and preparing for breeding, with egg-laying typically occurring in February.
Alongside a county gravel road a few miles outside our town, my wife and I have watched two eagles for several weeks making inspection trips and carrying small branches to add to a growing nest.
Judging from the diminutive size of the nest they began last year, I think this is probably a secondary nest.
Eagles frequently maintain multiple nests within their territory, using them as backups if their primary nest is destroyed, heavily damaged, or if it becomes too comfortable for many parasites.

CN power leads a UP train under the BNSF overpass at Grand Island, NE. The mid train DP was NS7681. Meanwhile, the guy on the ground is lining up NCRC Platte Valley Turn power out of the house.
CP train 486 was shrugging off a winter chill at Rondout behind a trio of SD40-2s.
At the time, a scene like this was a daily occurance, but wasn't taken for granted as the writing was on the wall.
Today, it's all devolved to a General Electric show around here.
