And I'll rise up
I'll rise like the day
I'll rise up
I'll rise unafraid
I'll rise up
And I'll do it a thousand times again
And I'll rise up
High like the waves
I'll rise up
In spite of the ache
I'll rise up
And I'll do it a thousands times again
For you
My "other neighbourhood" :) On workdays I'd normally spend more time here than at home, when there were no lockdowns (does anyone remember such times?)... I miss the City, hope to be back there before too long.
UP 8780 leads a short intermodal train west past the flag barn.
It's just too easy to shoot here with the drone and the barn makes a great photo backdrop.
A visiting UP GEVO brightens up Norfolk Southern 18G which makes an early-morning appearance the Lehigh Line across New Jersey.
With a colorful consist up front and a threatening sky overhead westbound tonnage departs Green River, passing the old Green River depot. Meanwhile a pair of SD70s stand by in 'short-8' awaiting their turn to head for the 'patch'.

Looing up the central atrium, in the recently renovated Whitney building in Detroit. It really is a most impressive place.
CSX power actually leading a CSX train seems to be a rarity these days, at least in the East St. Louis area. From a vantage point in the city park at Caseyville, IL, one can see CSX Q687 pulling hard for the hill up out of the Mississippi river floodplain. Note the rear of the train to the far left, passing the signals at Black Lane while it departs Exermont. 30 January 2016.
An eight car UP passenger train operated for the railroad's engineering department rolls through St. Francis, WI on the Milwaukee Subdivision. The train was running from Minneapolis to Proviso under the symbol PSEGD2. 7/13/2016
150 empty cars are on their way up "The Hill" at Herndon, as U87 takes them to storage on the ex-Virginian PD District. This section of rail was mothballed in 2015, but for one day in 2020 a train once again traversed the rails between Elmore Yard and Clarks Gap to put 150 cars in storage. Whether or not this will be the last moved every over the famed hill remains to be seen. The train is seen here chugging up the 2.07% grade, passing a set of Virginian searchlights.
With the Swan Ranch Industrial Complex in the background westbound tonnage follows a trio of EMDs into the big curve at Speer, WY. Speer is the junction between Union Pacific's cross-country Overland Route and their Greeley Subdivision to Denver. In the lower foreground is the west connector to the Greeley mainline, allowing trains from the west to head directly south to Denver.

Photo shot by my Dad, Jay Thomson, at Omaha, NE in June 1984
On June 14, 1984 we were aboard the California Zephyr, eastbound for Chicago when Dad shot Union Pacific GP9 215 with UP caboose 25530 at Omaha, Nebraska.
UP 7656 snakes it's way eastbound through Ligurta Az. The Gila Mountains provide the backdrop. On the other side of them lies Yuma Az.
A Male Wood Duck was flying up to a wall to perch. It's a very gloomy day outside today, the virbant color of this wood duck will brighten up anybody's mood. They are probably rivaled only by a Mandarin Duck; since we don't get them here in Canada, Wood Duck will certainly be a top contender for most handsome duck in Canada. Up until a few years ago I didn't know that Wood Ducks nest in wood cavities and they are as comfortable sitting high on a tree as they are in water. High Park, Toronto.
Moving from the East Coast to the Midwest, one of the things I've noticed are the length of coal trains. From the 110 to 115 car trains I seen on CSX and NS to the 135 to 150 car trains on BNSF and UP. Seen here are one of those 135 car UP coal trains gliding across the trestle oer Santa Fe Junction.
Sometimes I don't put up an image because I can't think of a title or worry it isn't good enough . I sit here, paralyzed with indecision so the image remains in my "to upload' folder.
Doh!
Anyway, you are welcome to name this one.........or not :)
UP 6706, a survivor of the CNW paint scheme, rolls through Flagg, IL on 1-5-19 and into Global 3. This was the unlikely sole power on the train this day.
The “line_up“ is a paperwork series I developed since 2010. The “liners” are made out of paper (Din A3/A4),
oil paint and graphite. The theme is the hermetical laws of polarity and movement. There is no ending and no beginning in any direction, just an endless movement. You have the possibility to arrange the papers like you want and that makes it an endless playground for my photo-work and the eyes of the viewers.

The widespread Eastern Screech Owl (Megascops asio) loves its tree cavities so much that it has evolved feather patterns that make it nearly invisible against the bark. These relatively small birds--up to 10 inches in height--are gregarious, as far as owls go. They will often live in suburban areas, so long as mature trees with cavities are present. In fact, they will often have more successful broods in the suburbs. Is this because they have fewer predators in these areas, or because they watch The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills through neighborhood windows?...we may never know.
Special thanks to Joyce_E_Landean (Keeping busy) for providing incredible directions that helped me find this roufus fellow!
