I think there are 20 class 47/57 in shot, and 5 class 37. One of the 37s has been fired up and it clagging gently.
Most of the depot infrastructure dates from around 1944, when the depot was expanded because of high levels of war traffic. After closure in 1968, it became 'Steamtown' and I remember a great visit in the later 1970s. This finally closed in 1998, and it is now the centre for West Coast Railways. The main shed has been extended towards the camera more recently.

Interesting Line of Sight comms and/or telemetry system they've got set up on the roof of the leader (backward-facing antennas just behind the cab) and passenger cars.
Thanks to WR for the initial heads-up and updates on this move.

I often take my camera with me when I go to fill the feeders up - just in case. On this occasion I struck lucky, there was a squirrel already feeding when I went out, so I stood back and waited for it to move away which it did after 5 minutes or so, having given me the chance to get a few snaps.
I then filled the feeders up and stayed close by to photograph the small birds hoping for the Nuthatch to appear.
I don't know who was the more surprised when the squirrel reappeared on the branch less than 12 feet away from me. It looked me up and down a few times shaking its tail and then went to the feeder.
This is one of the shots I managed; many of the others are not full body as I was too close and in some I can see my reflection in the eyes of the squirrel.
I remember growing up in the midst of previous Russian agressions such as the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Czechoslovakia Invasion. My exposure to news and political conversations were few and far between then, but I remember a clear thought that there must be young girls like me and their families living in Russia who were suffering because of these armed offenses.
As I stand with the people of the Ukraine in their efforts to push back against Russia, I also hope for the people of Russia as they suffer from and stand against this current conflict. It may never happen in my lifetime, but I'm cheering on that Russian girl who finds a way to stand up and prevail against war and find ways to work through differences through diplomacy and conversation.
UP 6702 east near Linwood, KS on the UP Kansas Sub a couple weeks back. Nice spot...that used to be even better. Bring a chain saw.
Low numberboard GEEZ look pretty decent in the UP wing paint scheme.
A glow in the early morning sun a 5-pack of new Union Pacific ET45AHs fill the cool mountain air with the sound of dynamic brakes, backed up by squealing wheel flanges as a train of 'empty Eugenes' carefully descents the Tehachapis, the hills of which are still vibrant in the colors of Spring.

This Red Winged Black Bird was sitting on the seeds and wouldn't let any other birds come near it. As is typical it puffed itself up and it was very effective!

When I first moved here to the Pacific Northwest, I met this old man that would always look up with his hands outstretched. He would say, "Isn't it wonderful". Back then, I didn't really get the message. As I have lived here longer, I have come to appreciate the beauty in the sky, especially the morning and the evenings! :)
In a few days I will be traveling down to Southern Utah and Arizona. I am looking forward to photographing the great Southwest. It will be a very big change from the Pacific Northwest. Can't wait for the challenge! :)
I will be away from flickr for awhile, but I will catch up with your photo streams when I get back. :)

The best of the show is still miles ahead as this rack train makes good time out of Reno.
Can't wait to shoot out here again... the slots of Reno are less than a half hour away.
