UP 1943 'The Spirit of the Union Pacific' leads the M-DMHN at Lenape on the UP Kansas Sub. Looks like the lead motor has been bucking a few drifts here and there. The snow than came down on the 22nd is now all but a memory for most of the ROW around these parts. The brief warmup that we had overnight that brought some freezing rain is a distant memory as the cold north wind is howling again today as temperatures continue to fall back into the teens.
Looks like we might get a reprieve on Thursday...which will just make things a sloppy mess.
Happy Kwanzaa folks.

"A heavenly view from above
Lifeless skies embrace stars
With the enveloping heat of the sun
And with the light that blinds us
The smell of cosmos is all around
Going up to the life pedestal
Something new is about to come
It was close, now it's gone..."

UP 9058 with some rather creative graffiti on the nose of the locomotive. I thought about photoshopping it out, but was just too lazy. This heat gets to you man...
NS train 16T passes through the interlocking at Lithia, headed northbound up the former N&W line from Roanoke to Shenandoah.
A road weary UP C30-7 and its train have paused on the new low grade line over Sherman Hill. Its awaiting clearance to proceed west towards Hermosa Tunnel.

UP SD70ACe 8578 on the point of an eastbound string of covered hoppers on a snowy night in North Platte.
from the archives - 2005
Red frame stripes should be a giveaway on the date. Climbing out of Benson, and towards the last summit of Mescal. Behind this westbound rack train is another westbound descending through Sibyl from the summit at Dragoon.
The Lincoln turn leaves the Overland Route behind as it departs Valley, NE and approaches the Platte River bridge. A quality sucker hole opened just in time to nail a shot of this standard cab duo after a gray morning.
After taking a short hike and bagging a shot down below along the tracks, I was walking back to my car and I looked up the hillside from the curves and thought maybe there would be a shot from up there. Knowing a second south bound was on the way along Union Pacific's Black Butte Sub, I decided to take the gamble on up the steep hillside cliff and hope a shot would turn out somewhere. Luckily it was only about a 10 minute climb and giving off quite the view. Dorris, California
My "other neighbourhood" :) On workdays I'd normally spend more time here than at home, when there were no lockdowns (does anyone remember such times?)... I miss the City, hope to be back there before too long.
UP 8780 leads a short intermodal train west past the flag barn.
It's just too easy to shoot here with the drone and the barn makes a great photo backdrop.
A visiting UP GEVO brightens up Norfolk Southern 18G which makes an early-morning appearance the Lehigh Line across New Jersey.
With a colorful consist up front and a threatening sky overhead westbound tonnage departs Green River, passing the old Green River depot. Meanwhile a pair of SD70s stand by in 'short-8' awaiting their turn to head for the 'patch'.
