A pair of Northern Cardinals hang out in an old dead tree. Northern refers to hemisphere, not latitude, as the brilliantly colored bird is at home from the Canadian maritime provinces to the Yucatan peninsula. They are ground feeders. Here the female forages among the tree roots for seeds and bugs while the male stands guard from a high vantage point, ready to sound the alarm should the neighborhood cat appear.
Near the lake, sun was shinning, weird looking tree and empty house which wanted me to capture that moment.
I love lone tree shots and was lucky enough to find one at the old schoolhouse I went to the other day. I have another one with the fence and the moon I might post either tomorrow for HFF or later on. Anyway, this was taken sooc about 6:30 am with the last of the night burning off. Thanks everyone, this one made Explore!
35/52: Happy Little Tree
Probably my new favorite place to photograph in San Diego, San Dieguito River Park (Lake Hodges) provides an awesome opportunity to capture serene images. I am anything but a morning person, however moments like this make the 4:30am alarms completely worth it.
Not a dead tree, just leafless at the moment....and decorated with Sparrow Weaver nests.
Have a Tree-mendous Tuesday, everyone!
A dead tree covered in ivy at the centre of a ploughed field.
It took several attempts to shoot the tree from this angle due to the M4 motorway being directly in the frame - too many white vans and lorries!!
center of the Spandau citadel in Berlin - also grave mound of two former Commanders of the Citadel. On top of the mound grows that old giant chestnut-tree. In the background you see the "Juliusturm" - Tower of the citadel.
Snow showers in somewhat blizzard conditions obliterated detail allowing the rather graphic shapes of skeletal trees to show through.
∞ May brooks and trees and singing hills join in the chorus too, and every gentle wind that blows send happiness to you ∞

Our crabapple tree blooms every year around my birthday. We don't trim it. It's huge.
Roll 22, 400 film
Well the holidays are past and we're back home in the flatlands. It's chilly and windy and seems even colder here than up in the mounains and the snow.
While the hygenist scratched away at my teeth, I watched through the window, as the wind blew this tree around in the afternoon sunlight. Like a Christmas tree, when it's all over, losing it's decorations, one by one.
I love trees. And aspens are a favorite, as where they grow is where I like to go.
"Quaking aspen is the most widely distributed native North American tree species, growing in greatly diverse regions, environments, and communities. The largest and oldest known aspen clone is the "Pando" clone on the Fishlake National Forest in southern Utah. It is over 100 acres in size and weighs more than 14 million pounds. That is more than 40 times the weight of the largest animal, a blue whale. It has been aged at 80,000 years." re: Forest Service.
Have a terrific Tuesday!
