I love the color and patterns of two of the trees in our yard. According to Wikipedia, the word 'chartreuse' was named after the color of a French liqueur that was made by the Carthrusian monks at the Grande Chartreuse monastery, located in the Chartreuse Mountains in 1764.

These imposing trees share the lineage with the tallest living organism on Earth-Hyperion, a Coast Redwood that is 379.7 feet tall!!! These trees are among the oldest living organisms as well. The ones that I saw were not nearly as large, but as they are protected in this forest, will hopefully one day grow that big. It is estimated that 95% of old growth Coast Redwoods have been logged.

Just behind a barn I photographed a couple weeks ago was a lane heading into a back field. The incredible split tree standing sentry caught my eye... Photo has been desaturated to make the tree contrast more from the scrubby brush.

I have taken many beautiful photos in the past 3 weeks, but only in my mind. The winter's short days and a bout of the flu have severely cut into photo possibilities; tonight was a nearly perfect deep apricot sunset and as I drove I passed a restored white barn I have yet to photograph; with the sunset behind it, it was ethereal. But, I was on a schedule and in rush hour, so.... I have the memory of the photo to remind me to look for another opportunity...

Through the trees with tiny new leaves

A tree in the park that completely overwhelmed me when I walked up on it. This park was situated in between little shops in the Carmel by the Sea area and I was completely floored taking it in. I'm not quite sure that this photo does it justice but I hope you can appreciate the scope of it through my lens.

If you ever get the chance to stop in this part of the country please do so. There are around 100+ little shops that are so enticing. There are all situated on a slight hill with the path leading down to the Pacific Ocean. This park was about half way down.

Thanks for the continued viewership, comments, and faves.

The winds along the south shore of Maui are stong and consistent, so much so that the trees all turn in the same direction. Here are some trees near Kealia Pond reflecting this effect.

Another reflection photograph taken during the foggy morning. A tree was popping up from the water, the heavy snow and subsequent thaw meant that the water was higher up the bank than usual!

I went out this morning to get some misty scenes down by the river, but it had cleared by the time I got there.
