On a tree near the end of our drive this morning. Almond, maybe? Anyway, a welcome sign that Spring is on the way :-)
Taken with my BlackBerry!
"That does not look like the nuthatch that's hanging' out near my classroom window at all!" my dad told me after seeing my pictures. (My parents are both teachers, in case you were wondering.) He wondered whether nuthatches could look very differently, maybe the males and the females sport different feathers? Then I showed him this picture, and that is what his nuthatch looked like.
Well, in Dutch, a nuthatch is called boomklever, and a tree creeper is called boomkruiper. They are mixed up often because the names sound so much alike. So we asked the oracle of google and found out they are different birds. I learnt the nuthatch has big claws that enable it to go up and down a tree to find food in the bark. The tree creeper uses its tail for support and goes around the bark in upward circles. It cannot climb down like the nuthatch as it can't use that tail for support that way.
First, I mistook this for a wren. I had not seen a nuthatch, tree creeper or wren before. Yesterday I saw all three of them! But my dad pointed out the little beak of the tree creeper is slightly curved, whereas the wren's beak is more straight.
We set up the pharmacy each night, displaying the mostly donated drugs in a transparent shoe tree. I'm pictured with Julia Kersey and Sally Marsh, both nurses on the team.

A favourite tree, an old and gnarly character, standing between two fields outside Muthill. Taken at dusk with a vibrant glowing pink Belt of Venus aka Earth's Shadow above the horizon.

Driving around the countryside of Launceston through cattle ranches, you can observe many lonely trees, oddly left them alone in the middle of pastures where cattle usually rests in the shadows.
This is one of the classic Tasmanian's hilly landscape that has fascinated me.
Forgot to upload this before.
When I shot this my friends were like "where did Anna go?" cause I just stopped.

bent in hexedit, then messed with in fireworks.
I was driving around trying to find some good autumn colours - more on a exploration for when the light was better than a photo shoot. Saw this tree and was just taking a snap - then the pheasant flew up. It made a fairly standard autumn photo it to an interesting image I think.
At one of our farm stays, I was able to walk in the fields. This was near Reykholt. One of the few trees...
To me, this was amazing, it is the first time that I had ever seen a flower tree grow this way. It is awesome! Shot the picture in Palo Alto at a botanical garden.
Bit of a storm/rain clouds blowing in, this is a three shot HDR image of the famous lone tree at Malham.
I have a lot of images to work on but little time at the moment. I was away in Nottinghham last weekend when I wondered through the hotel grounds and happend upon this wonderful tree in the morning mist. It reminded me of a Japanese print, hence the title. Yama-No-Kam is the Goddess of the hunt. Goddess of the forest. Goddess of agriculture. Goddess of vegetation.
This is a contrast to my usual city and man made shots. Its good to step out of the usual normal practice mode!
