I remember when the trains used to run here, back when I was a little girl. We would go and place pennies on the tracks, just to flatten them out, although I remember someone telling me could derail the train with them, and the excitement of thinking we had that much power was a thrill, too. The trains did quit running here, and it could possibly be that there was too much of a build-up of melted copper on the rails that caused that...
They say the trains will run again, and have blocked off streets and irritated the heck out of a lot of townsfolk, but I've only heard the whistle once and I can't swear it was the train.
I guess we will see if it happens..
Track replacement between Shipley and Bradford Foster Square led to a number of Engineering Trains. Colas Railfreight's 70810 leaves site with old track panels as it passes through Kirkstall Forge on its way to Doncaster Up Decoy running as 630U.
I was actually free on a day the track laying train was working on the East West Railway. Regrettably by the time I arrived the train was approaching the new footbridge to the west of the site of the former Swanbourne Station. I could not any closer than about 50m to the site. Things did not appear to be going well and there were frequent pauses while a crowbar was applied to the rail to get it to sit correctly on the sleepers.
Is this the tracks of the SBB? It is known to be in this Conservation Park. There were also small burrows here. I haven't seen them before. Does anyone know?

(SA) Since European settlement, the Southern Brown Bandicoot (eastern) has been recorded from four separate regions of South Australia: the Mount Lofty Ranges, the south-east, Kangaroo Island and Eyre Peninsula. Sub-fossil remains show that the subspecies also once occurred on the Yorke Peninsula but there is no evidence that it has existed there in modern times. In the lower south-east, all current records are located in Forestry SA Native Forest Reserves.

walking through urmston meadows i stumbled across these old tracks. odd because they literally run the length of this photo! i have played with the contrast a lot as it was a pretty dull photo to begin with (again because of the rubbish mancunian skies) and as a result, i really like it!
