Looks like a setting from an old western movie...waiting for that coal fired steam engine to come around the bend. This is the line that passes through town at the Foundry. Photo was taken from the bridge on Point View Avenue across from Niagara Cutter.

I believe this is the lever that switches the track for a train to lead down.

Cropped square from an asp-c frame.

Flashed neutral to bring out the colours of the trains against the full moon & clouds.

Track machines at Bassendean about to be passed by 1PA8 Indian Pacific 14/10/2012.

Stopped alongside the track looking for today's photograph. The lens is at its widest, but the depth of field is still very narrow. The front of the nearest sleeper is in focus, but the nail at the back is not. The camera is held just above the ground.

This June 11 1876 article describes the journey of the SPRR 'Paymaster Car' attached to a sleeper and Steam Engine as it left (unannounced for safety) Los Angeles Terminal bound for Indian Wells (soon to be renamed Indio) - the then current terminus of the Los Angeles to Yuma Division of the Southern Pacific Railroad.

The 20 mile section of track east of Seven Palms Station (now named Garnett) to Indian Wells (Indio) had just been completed and soon the tracks would be layed on to Yuma.

The Paymaster Car was armed to the teeth and full of gold to stop and pay the SP employees at the various substations along the way.

A 360 view of the bushland along the Mount Direction track.

You'll have to imagine the light rustle of leaves and smell of warm eucalyptus.

Darda race track for the Darda pull back toy cars. Unlike the cars it is really durable. Unfortunately the cars are not that good, nothing like the original Darda cars from the 70-80's. More info and images at Darda cars
