I got the timing perfect here. 6 second exposure. All of the lights on the front of the locomotive do not illuminate simultaneously. But they were all caught illuminated with the long exposure. Read the notes for explanation of each light.
The dispatcher called the Oglevie cop on me just as I was leaving, who turned out to be a really nice guy. He said I had to leave though.
But everything is not under one's control, which is why I would have preferred it if this red Parcel Force van had not passed at the critical moment, partially obscuring the Maiden's Head pub on the left. And, in any case, I'd missed catching the front of the train.
Class 375 electric multiple unit No. 375809 crosses Wincheap after calling at Canterbury East station with 1P32, the 10:05 Dover Priory and Ramsgate to London Victoria service on Sunday 19th November 2017.
Wincheap is a major route into Canterbury from the south-west. Just beyond the bridge the road continues on a straight line into the core of the medieval city, becoming Castle Street on the way, although today that straight line is interrupted by a roundabout where it intersects with the post-war ring road.
This was a one take photo, I had to leave my camera on a self timer on the ground and rush into the image to get the shot just before the sun dipped below the horizon. Once I got back to check the shot, the sunset was gone.
Street photography makes you appreciate the miracle of timing. Buddhists say, "There are three layers to a moment: Your experience, your awareness of the experience, and your story about the experience."
They should talk more about deliberate timing.

This time I got paired with lovely and talented Candice aka GummyPiglet. She originally challenged me to a sunset portrait with specific aperture and shutter speed, however as it's been raining and overcast all week over here she kindly set me with a new challenge: shooting an urban landscape! Definitely not what I usually go for, which took me out of my comfort zone in terms of finding an interesting subject and composing the shot!

We often reiterate on the importance of timing. This image was about that. I recently made a long road trip to tulip farms 3 states across. And we were late by a whisker. While a few farms were completely topped in Skagit Valley, some like this patch in Woodburn was plucked/topped here and there leaving a pleasing view of the partially topped rows of Tulips.
I found the fallen rows of petals in between kind of melancholic.
PS: Does it appear as if the colors are bleeding?

- 1X 580EX at 1/16 oriented on the reflector
- 2X 430 EX on manual at 1/32 a lot higher over the bowl oriented sharp at the top of the bowl (angle 30dev).
-1X ST-E2 to control the flashes
- I used a Canon 100mm macro.
It takes a couple of shots to get the timing. I like the result!

For this photo I really wanted to capture the idea of time as my greatest asset. This photo was mainly centered around the discovery that I had a giant glass hourglass. I think the photo captured the interesting idea of the evolution of time-telling and time itself.
I think the combination of the three devices are all centered around the fact that they are all ways to tell time. All of the devices are different, especially the hourglass, but they are all similar in the fact that they can be used to tell time.
I’m bored, like, really bored. So bored to the point that I decided to post a second photo today just to get my brain working and tell a story.
It’s been a bit since I posted a photo from my Pennsylvania trip that I dubbed PA2023, and since I’ve had quite a few new followers since my last post from the trip (which if you are new, welcome), I figured I’d drop a post from the enjoyable yet nightmarish trip.
This one I have been highly debating on posting, on one hand, the nose lighting is perfect, on the other, I hate (and I mean HATE) when things aren’t sidelit. A lot of people are telling me to post it anyway, so here goes.
This, I believe, is from the second day of the trip. My father and I had ventured over to horseshoe curve for the day, and decided to run over to Cresson for dinner and some additional trains.
We grabbed dinner at a place called The Brick on Front, which on a totally unrelated note, if you’re looking the place up on google, their fries taste just as good as they look online. Hell, they’re the best I’ve ever eaten in my 21 years of being on this planet (I was 19 at the time of this trip). Unfortunately, I can’t say too much the same for the burger, it was still okay though. Not bad for the small town that Cresson is.
Of course, the first train after dinner was the worst smelling train on the line. It is a loaded trash train (the symbol is 63V) and when it’s hot and very humid, it smells BAD. I was hoping I wasn’t about to lose my dinner, and I didn’t. But I sure as hell wasn’t going to be getting anything from The Ice Box in Bedford (where we were staying/camping).
Yet, 63V is a staple of Pittsburgh Line railfanning. This train, to my knowledge, is the only operating unit trash train in the US that is considered a road freight. It was definitely on my list of things to see on the trip, and I particularly wanted to get it at Cresson just to get it under the signal bridge. It’s a very wide image, but it’s still a cool sight of seeing a mile plus long trash train stretch down the line.
Onwards.
Photography is all about finding the right angle and moment at the same time. Think about it... Eventually it all comes down to timing.
Offcourse, you need light but when the moment is wrong you won`t capture the real essence.
Take this scene for instance, I`ve been here lots of times, passing by and not seeing the potential of the scene. But tonight, I accidently looked back and got struck by the lines, the angle of light and the magnificent colors.
I quickly changed lenses and slapped on the DA15mm F4 ltd and searched for a nice angle.
2 minutes later the moment was gone and the sun wasn`t even down yet.
