When hunting pics in a fog requires timing for the light you are looking for, even if you have to wait for it.
A few minutes of "lucky timing", or you could have been reading my obituary today.
So you'd recall that Toronto had a one-two punch of 50 to 60 cm (20 to 24 inches) of snow last week. The snow accumulated on the roof slid towards the edge very much like a slow moving glacier. As there is invariably heat loss from the heating inside the home via the roof, the snow on the roof would eventually melt on warmer days. Usually the melting snow drips into the eavestroughs and down pipes. But then after a super heavy snowfall, the melting snow might slide over the edge of the roof and then re-freeze itself once it's exposed to the cold air, forming beautiful icicles that you see outside of Nordic or Alpine homes.
In any case, a sizeable chunk of ice fell off the roof in today's warmer (+4C) weather. I went outside to clear it from the driveway, then went back into the house to work. I was outside for about 10 minutes.
A few minutes after I returned to the house, a much much bigger chunk of ice crashed down the exact spot where I was. I estimate the ice chunk must be at least 50 to 100 lbs (20 to 45 kg), falling from a height of over 30 feet (10 meter). If that chunk of ice had fallen on my head, it probably would have crushed my skull, killing me instantly or at least turning me into a vegetable.
When the ice fell, the entire ground and the house shook, making a huge sound that startled mother, me and my neighbour.
I'm a very lucky man.

When you want to see the Changing of the Guards at Amalienborg Palace.
Or you wander around Copenhagen and decide to have a look at the Place when suddenly there are loads of people and police and there's music....
"The Ceremony
At Amalienborg Palace, the royal residence in Copenhagen, the Royal Guard, mounted by the Kongelige Livgarde (Kings Life Guard)is on duty for 24 hours.
The size of the Guard and musical support is dependant on who is in residence at Amalienborg Palace:
Kongevagt (King's Watch) when the Monarch is in residence the Guards are accompanied by the Royal Guards music band.
Løjtnantsvagt (Lieutenant Watch) when Prince Henrik, Crown Prince Frederik or Prince Joachim are residing at Amalienborg in the capacity of regents the Guards are accompanied by flutes and drums.
Palævagt (Manor Watch) when the Crown Prince or Prince Joachim are in residence but not in the capacity of regents or the Palace is uninhabited the Guards march through Copenhagen without musical accompaniment."
So regarding to this (slightly outdated) article I was able to observe the Løjtnantsvagt. It was quite a show

you can read everything you need to know about the ceremony and a bit more....
When I had just gotten to the concours this morning lightning struck and we all had to wait out the rain indoors for a while. It began to sprinkle again after a couple of hours and I decided to head back home…. This is what the weather map looks like two hours later.

Everything was perfect last night. Perfect timing, perfect lighting, perfect amount of clouds and a perfect full moon of Durhams most beautiful building.
Also after seeing The Rocky Horror Picture Show at Sunderland Empire last week and watching the film at least twice since then I just could not get "Over at the Frankinstein Place" out of my head, hence the title :-D
I was walking around the beach in Waikiki, getting shots of surfers and waves crashing on the jetties when I turn around and see this... fineartamerica.com/profiles/1-jason-jacobs.html
The bicyclist happened to approach the grade crossing of this rural road with the CN Chicago Subdivision just as the final cars of a southbound merchandise train were clearing. The image was made just north of Leverett, Illinois.

Happy New Year friends.

There was a lot of this happening and it's fun getting the timing right! Trying out a pre-loved Tamron 150-600mm lens at the local Osprey nest. Quite pleased with it so far. I've seen the previous owners shots so know its potential. The Osprey pair are doing well, the male brought in a fish, landing gently on the nest, then took off again and dive bombed crows in the vicinity. The female appeared to be feeding young, but no heads apparent above the nest yet.
I took this shot in Panama City Beach this fall. I love it when the timing of a shot works out just perfectly. Here is a Brown Pelican with a seagull nicely placed behind.

Missy was so good at sniffing out abandoned tennis balls and now it looks as if she passed her skills onto her friend Tasku.
It helps a lot that I can still walk with Tasku and Taivas A forest walk is not the same without a dog to share it with.
Everyone, it seems, wants to get in on the picture.

Good timing, then! Although not really the best photo, ah, I've already got one from Castle Hill. This lovely-looking BloodFast BMW finally gets the blue lights treatment, and I have to say the flash pattern really sets it off well. With hope, I might just be able to catch more of these on blues if I look out a bit more - something of a niche market this side of Flickr - though I suppose I better get this all in before the whole fleet is replaced with BMWs...
The final photo from Wednesday last week, and quite possibly the final photo for about a week or so, should works on the house get in the way, BloodFast Urgent Blood's BF16, a flash 2020 BMW G21 3-Series, is seen bombing down Anlaby Road on a blue right blood run.
Been meaning to edit this for a while, just keep forgetting about. :)
And no I didn't add in the uhaul, we just passed by one and I managed to take a picture at that time.

Dovrò decidermi ad estrarre qualcosa di organico dalla bella esperienza degli Assoluti di Karate Tradizionale 2018...
this dragonfly kept flying back to the same spot i wondered if i could get a shot of it landing... alas, after about 15 shots i was finally able to get what i wanted! thank goodness for the flash...
Early running put 6C52 ahead of the Seaforth - Mossend for its run up the WCML.
Not a lot of room for error here and one more flask would've kyboshed this shot!

ALLAH has perfect timing.
Never early and never late
And it takes a little patience
And a lot of faith.
So, don't you cry, Bangladesh. Have heart.
Who said you didn't win? You won our hearts.
And that, is the best thing anyone can win.

Railfanning can be a frustrating game. Sure you clear your schedule to be in position, you make sure to leave early for the drive then the hike, you trek down to the river, carefully pick out your spot covering your pants in tiny pickers in the process, and finally pinch yourself at the realization that there is actually a train on the way with matching power on a beautiful sunny October day. With your cushion of time you check the settings again and fire a few test shots (1). The water is gloriously smooth for the half hour you wait. Finally you can hear the horn as the train approaches the bridge. A glance over your shoulder reveals a pontoon full of daisy pickers putting into the scene trashing the reflection (2). OK, L517 has to slow down for the bridge, maybe there is time and things start to clear up until (3) another boat heads downstream to make sure the reflection is spoiled.
It's a good thing the posse of photographers lining the shore left the rocket launchers at home. Of course, if looks could kill...
That's OK perhaps the stars will align for another chance at this in my lifetime, or not. October 17, 2021.
Taken at the lakefront in Lincoln Park yesterday during a Strobist meetup with models. This girl was standing on the edge of the concrete wall along Lake Michigan actually waiting for the waves to hit the wall and get a little splash of water but she she didn't expect the lake would be so generous. She got what she came there for. And she had a lot of fun. Me too. Who needs models when you capture moments like this?

470 finally departs Muskego, as the storm clouds have moved in. If only he had left maybe 10 minutes earlier, he would'be been beautifully lit up in the early afternoon sun.
Once upon a time, Genesee & Wyoming started a hot boxcar train between Portland and Los Angeles, working with Union Pacific. It did not last long. One of the northbound trains passes our house in Klamath Falls during 2001.
I'm having some surgery tomorrow, and I've done a cracker jack job at keeping myself insanely busy in order to avoid thinking about it. But just as I felt myself starting to go there this morning, the mail carrier knocked on the door for a package that required a signature.
Royal Mail! Truly kirstin's amazing package could not have arrived at a better time. The kids gathered around me and rejoiced and exclaimed at every new wonderful thing to come out of the that pouch.
And once I had my own pair of little Megyptians running about the house, I didn't have a second to fret.
I was way too busy cracking up!
more pictures must come from this package, but they may be coming at you post-operatively
