“Sometimes being a friend means mastering the art of timing. There is a time for silence. A time to let go and allow people to hurl themselves into their own destiny. And a time to prepare to pick up the pieces when it's all over.”

The campaign to get a good, well-lit photo of the George Robert White Memorial continues. With the aid of sun-spotting software, I'm starting to dial in on times of the day and of the year when I've got a chance of a good photo.
The photo I want continues to elude. But if you hit the Public Garden between 10 and 11, it's possible to get something nice from this angle. If you're willing to climb up on top of the marble edging of the fountain.
I took this shot in Panama City Beach this fall. I love it when the timing of a shot works out just perfectly. Here is a Brown Pelican with a seagull nicely placed behind.

So this is my first ever attempt at a coffee splash shot & it didn't go how I wanted it to :( I was pretty disappointed when I couldn't get many shots of the coffee exploding like others that I've seen. I had my brother help me & we tried about 6 times. He was getting annoyed & we were making a huge mess. Haha. So this is one of the only shots that turned out O.K. I really don't like the flowers in the background. There's too much going on with them there too. This definitely won't be my last coffee splash attempt you can bet on that! :)

Missy was so good at sniffing out abandoned tennis balls and now it looks as if she passed her skills onto her friend Tasku.
It helps a lot that I can still walk with Tasku and Taivas A forest walk is not the same without a dog to share it with.
Everyone, it seems, wants to get in on the picture.

A66 is seen here passing through Clarkefield running as 0097 down light engine to Bendigo Workshops for storage. This railfan favourite was the last holdout of a fleet of four V/Line Passenger owned A Class used for peak hour services to Bacchus Marsh.
This light engine movement had luckily been timetabled a few minutes ahead of a Steamrail Victoria special to Castlemaine, putting it in the viewfinders of plenty of enthusiasts who found themselves trackside for the steam train - including this lost New South Welshman!
Been meaning to edit this for a while, just keep forgetting about. :)
And no I didn't add in the uhaul, we just passed by one and I managed to take a picture at that time.

Dovrò decidermi ad estrarre qualcosa di organico dalla bella esperienza degli Assoluti di Karate Tradizionale 2018...
While on my way to work this morning, I saw SOR 496 running down the Burford Spur. With 15 minutes to spare and my office being only a minute from this shot, a quick stop for a photo was in order.
It was a little gloomy for my liking but being able to shoot a train before work was pretty slick.
this dragonfly kept flying back to the same spot i wondered if i could get a shot of it landing... alas, after about 15 shots i was finally able to get what i wanted! thank goodness for the flash...
Early running put 6C52 ahead of the Seaforth - Mossend for its run up the WCML.
Not a lot of room for error here and one more flask would've kyboshed this shot!
Every left heel hit the ground during that 1/125 sec.

Looks better large!
Railfanning can be a frustrating game. Sure you clear your schedule to be in position, you make sure to leave early for the drive then the hike, you trek down to the river, carefully pick out your spot covering your pants in tiny pickers in the process, and finally pinch yourself at the realization that there is actually a train on the way with matching power on a beautiful sunny October day. With your cushion of time you check the settings again and fire a few test shots (1). The water is gloriously smooth for the half hour you wait. Finally you can hear the horn as the train approaches the bridge. A glance over your shoulder reveals a pontoon full of daisy pickers putting into the scene trashing the reflection (2). OK, L517 has to slow down for the bridge, maybe there is time and things start to clear up until (3) another boat heads downstream to make sure the reflection is spoiled.
It's a good thing the posse of photographers lining the shore left the rocket launchers at home. Of course, if looks could kill...
That's OK perhaps the stars will align for another chance at this in my lifetime, or not. October 17, 2021.

The timing was crucial to get all the elements to work together for this high-dynamic range image.
It's almost a painterly effect with the soft, warm glow from the sun on the East side, with the cool shadows on the West (right) side. The ripples in the water were caused from snow melting in the trees near me. So I waited to see if I could capture one at the right place and time. Everything seemed to have come together for a brief moment.

Taken at the lakefront in Lincoln Park yesterday during a Strobist meetup with models. This girl was standing on the edge of the concrete wall along Lake Michigan actually waiting for the waves to hit the wall and get a little splash of water but she she didn't expect the lake would be so generous. She got what she came there for. And she had a lot of fun. Me too. Who needs models when you capture moments like this?

470 finally departs Muskego, as the storm clouds have moved in. If only he had left maybe 10 minutes earlier, he would'be been beautifully lit up in the early afternoon sun.
Once upon a time, Genesee & Wyoming started a hot boxcar train between Portland and Los Angeles, working with Union Pacific. It did not last long. One of the northbound trains passes our house in Klamath Falls during 2001.
The last time we were in Xi'an (about 15 years ago) we wandered up onto the city walls and walked along for a while, then came down near the South gate. This time around there were lots of touristy things everywhere (including an admission fee) and we were able to hire bikes on the wall and go all the way around.
This photographer knew what he was doing, timing the shoot for the last of the golden afternoon light.
An out-take from an old project.
Pay attention now.
Rifle fires pellet at razor blade. Blade splits pellet in two. Two halves of pellet wing their way towards a pair of gelatin filled Christmas bulbs.
And timing is set just a little two early.
Although if you look very closely, you can see tiny cracks staring in the light brown bulb as the half pellet just touches the glass surface.
Not that closely, you'll get nose grease on your monitor :-)
Cheers.
our word on the 2bbb blog is "time" this week... and this quote is so perfect... for me. maybe you too? :)

The drive home tonight was amazing. It was so wonderful to see Rainier out and shining. As I got closing to home and the sun started to approach the horizon there was a nice glow to the mountain that I wish I had the words to descibe. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera ready to capture it. I decided to give it a shot and called Nora and said to meet me in the front of the house with my gear which she did with a smile. After that it was zoom zoom zoom to a location that gave me a clear shot. I pulled into the parking lot and proceeded to run about 500 yards to a clearning between the trees. Unfortunately I missed the glow I was looking for but did get the chance to see the moon really starting to pop. I had to do a quick bracketed exposure so that I could get both the moon and the forground exposed properly and this is the result.
Sometimes I think that I just find myself with the most beautiful views and no camera. Other times I find myself with a camera and that is it.... haha.
Hope everyone is having a great week. and a fantastic weekend.
