Ynys Llanddwyn or Llanddwyn Island is a small tidal island off the west coast of Anglesey, North Wales. The nearest town is Newborough.
The island is very rich in legends and in particular the association with Dwynwen. The name Llanddwyn means "The church of St. Dwynwen". Dwynwen is the Welsh patron saint of lovers, making her the Welsh equivalent of St. Valentine. Her Saint's day is January 25 and is often celebrated by the Welsh with cards and flowers.
The Lighthouse marks the western entrance to the Menai Strait.
The tower is tapered in a way characteristic of Anglesey windmills, it is 10.7m (35ft) high) and 5.5m (18ft) in diameter. It may have been constructed by an Anglesey stone mason, and it is possible that the tower itself was originally used as a windmill.
Thelantern and fittings cost £250 7s 6d, including the adaptation of an ‘earlier tower’. The north-east door is flanked by small windows, and the two floors above also have small windows, but the top does not. The conical roof is slated and has a flag pole. The present lantern window is about 2m (6ft 6ins) by 0.61m (2ft). The optic, silver plated reflector and Fresnel lens were used into the 1970s and are dated 1861. The lantern was originally lit by six Argand lamps with reflectors.
A smaller, conical tower, with a domed top, can be found to the north-east, and may be an earlier structure. The walls are 2.03m (6ft 8ins) in radius and 0.91m (3ft) thick with a door to the north-west and shows signs of cracking to the rubble-filled walls on the west.
Both towers do not show on the chart of Lewis Morris, of 1800, but do appear on the Ordnance Survey 1818-1823 2 inches/mile map and both probably originated as unlit markers.

Some parts of Aqua Cave are just cut out from the rock of the earth. It's an amazing feeling walking through these pipes. You can see the high tide mark too and we are a fair way into Aqua Cave

I got this idea from looking at, I believe, Marie Claire online. They had the model in front of paintings with couture dresses that mimicked the painting. The art building at my school is covered with a series of paintings so I went to Forever21.com and bought dresses that went with certain ones. We shot 3 different looks in front of 3 paintings. This is one.

Tediously de-crudded for your viewing pleasure: slightly moldy tourist view over the Tidal Basin in June '49, with a comparatively rustic Arlington and a plane approaching National.
Shot a roll of Ilford SFX-200 that had been sitting in my film inventory for 3 years. My first time shooting "near-infrared" film and I love how things turned out. I went ahead and bought some more so I can shoot on a less hazy day with a red filter.
Saw the helicopter flying over the Tidal Basin, thought it would be cool to include in the shot. Just wish there were more paddle boats, they all moved out of the frame.

On Wednesday, Dec. 16 the FWC, Marco Island Police Department and Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve responded to a report of a tidally stranded, female manatee near Tigertail Beach in Marco Island. When tides change quickly due to high winds or the moon cycle, manatees can become tidally stranded.

Shortly before sunset, when still water always becomes the most vivid blue.

There’s an amazing tidal pool on Margate beach and this time I managed to catch it with the sunset behind. This is a combination of 2 handheld 3 shot HDRs, I hadn’t intended to stitch them together when I took the shots but when I saw them in post they just had to be stitched.

This female shelduck (Tadorna tadorna) seems to have no qualms about getting down and dirty when it comes to searching for her dinner. Another shot from the Tidal Marsh at Titchwell RSPB nature reserve.

What a pain in the ass. I spent the last 30 minutes trying to figure out if I like the b and w version better than the color. So rarely do I get a good sunrise around here lately that it seems a shame to waste it on a black and white conversion. I like the mood here a bit better than the color though. I will post the color tomorrow maybe and see what your thoughts are.
This is another shot from the Lobster shack the other day. Need to get some sleep now for a 3am wakeup!
