This is the largest piece I've done, measuring 30"x40", that's big for me! The background is abstractish with things going on that you might find: a dancer, a map, some cherry blossoms, a tori gate, leaves, a human heart, a dog, all hinted at. For sale at Boundless Gallery (posted there as Carole Leslie)

Three Magnificent Frigatebirds over Fort Jeffesrson, Garden Key, Dry Tortugas National Park

This species feeds mainly on fish, and also attacks other seabirds to force them to disgorge their meals. Frigatebirds never land on water, and always take their food items in flight. (Wikipedia)

I quite like trees.

Well tonight was the opening of Add On, one of the photography exhibitions which is part of the Head On Photo Festival. "Add On" is quite interesting... 123 Photographers each donate a photo anonymously. At the end of the Exhibition each photographer will get a different photographer's photo back... Just like a lucky dip. There are a variety of photographers, celebrities and artists contributing to the exhibition, including a former Prime Minister and a famous chef. Stan and I were both invited to submit photos this year.

And here is me, pictured with two women I admire... on the left is Penelope Beveridge a fabulous award-winning food photographer and in the middle Kate Fitzpatrick, one of Australia's great female actors. I have admired her work since I was at school.

Add On is open at the Mary Street Gallery in Paddington until the 26th May

A photoshoot I did for a friend. She takes vintage fabric and creates earring with them.

I'm getting a little excited about winter, so I had to post a few old photos from a trip to Three Fingers Lookout this past winter.

Here is a small glimpse of my summer spent doing volunteer work in Peru back in 2005. These photos tell a story....the story of poverty, desperation, hope, and beauty.

we gave three of them a try, but will have to break down and buy a new one.

Three brothers from the House of Haold named Haold, Brun and Friedrich financed the foundation of a nunnery here in 956 -and instituted their sister Wichburg as the first abbess. This seems to have been a "family business", as the second abbess Wisgwid, was Wichburgs grandniece. Already since 965 relics of martyr Saint Cyriakus were kept here.

The convent existed up to 1823. It got dissolved after the demise of the last elected abbess. Since then St. Cyriakus is a parish church.

The construction of the church started already in the 10th century, but it took centuries to complete it. As the romanesque style seemed a little inartificial later to later generations, gothic and baroque elements were added - and parts of the structure were rebuilt.

Here is a detail from a late-romanesque capital.

A person in a blessing gesture (right) , a person obviously caught by a lion (left). Between them a rectangular board with five dots.

There is a legend about Saint Cyriakus having exorcised demons from the daughter of Emperor Diocletian. This exorcism process may be depicted here. The demon is a lion, holding down Diocletian´s daughter - Saint Cyriakus blessing the girl on the right.

I am sure, that the board with the five dots is a symbol - but I could not find anything about it.

Three nutrition staff members for the Sioux City Community School District are aboard bus #1 and will travel to various mobile meal sites to implement the summer meal program.

Sioux City Community School District participates in the federally funded Summer Food Service Program administered by the Iowa Department of Education. The program provides nutritious meals to children who normally access meals at school during the academic year, but who might otherwise go without during the summer months. Available on weekdays at no cost to youth aged 1-18, the meals meet the same dietary guidelines as those served during the school year. Adults may also purchase a complete meal for $4.

In order to provide meal service at a variety of locations, the Sioux City school district has partnered with a number of local community organization sponsors including the Launch Pad Children’s Museum, Tyson Foods, churches, malls, city parks, schools, and community centers. Currently, meals are served at 27 different meal sites throughout Sioux City.

Last summer, the school district started a mobile operation called Food on the Fly which utilizes two renovated school buses to expand meal service to neighborhood parks such as the Leeds Splash Pad, Dale Street Park, Rosehill Park, Children’s Launch Pad, Cone Park Splash Pad, and to the Verizon Camp at Western Iowa Tech.

The district has offered summer meals for over 20 years and distributes over 2,100 combined breakfasts and lunches.
