Gluten free, sugar free and definitely different muffins! These are filled with chewy bursts of wild rice and dried cranberries, and naturally sweetened with maple syrup and honey. VERY adapted from "A Taste of Minnesota Blueberry Wild Rice Muffins": vegweb.com/index.php?topic=39757.0

Three army gal pals have their photo taken at the Tonga Room of the Fairmont Hotel, San Francisco, California. The photo is stamped with the date June 14, 1951. Two of these members of the Women's Army Corps wear identifiable shoulder patches. The WAC in the center wears a post-war First Army patch. The one on the right wears a Sixth Army patch.

The occasion must have been a farewell party for the woman in the middle. There is no clue to the identity of the WAC in the center, but the two on either end have scribbled short notes of affection, along with their names, on the margins of the photo's frame.

On the left:

"Pfc. Rose M. Gauthard (Rosa Lee)

May this night be a memorable one to you."

And on the right:

"Hope we never part but if we do I'll think of you.

Pvt. Betty Fields"

Three Old Men, Amity Arkansas, Chuckwagon Race 2006.

What is A Chuckwagon Race ?

From the Arkansas Chuckwagon Racing Association website www.acwra.com/ the rules are as follows:

A chuckwagon team is made up of three members - the driver, cook, and the outrider. At the beginning of a race the driver is the only one in the wagon. The cook and outrider are both standing behind the wagon, the cook holding a "bedroll" and the outrider holding a "stove." Before the starting gun goes off you hear the official starter saying "cooks load your wagon!" and the cooks are to throw their bedroll in the wagon and hurry to sit beside the driver. During the race a cook helps to keep an eye on the track and warn the driver of any dangers.

After the gun sounds, the outrider will throw their stove in the wagon and mount their horse (though this isn't always an easy task!) The wagon takes off at the gun and both teams are to round a barrel before starting down the track. The outrider must also round their respective barrel and pass their team before it crosses the finish line. If the outrider fails to "catch" his/her team, the team is given a "no time."

On Sept. 10, 2008 a framed 8x10 print of this photo was submitted to the photography contest held during the 2008 Clark County (Arkansas) Fair, although no prizes came my way.

Update: This photo was published in Today's Photographer Magazine on February 25, 2009.
