The question of where you're from inevitably comes up in every conversation while traveling and meeting new people. It's shocking how many people respond to New York City as either "the city that never sleeps" or "I love Sex and the City". Thank you, Hollywood. The photo below reminded me of the former. Shot with Kodak Portra 400 film, a low-covering fog over the East River and Manhattan attempts to tuck in "the city that never sleeps".
This was towards the end of our trip, taken right outside of Central Park in Columbus Circle. You can see how clear it was, the only nice day we had!
Thanks for your visits friends!
The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, most often referred to as The Guggenheim, is located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City. It is the permanent home of a continuously expanding collection of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, early Modern and contemporary art and also features special exhibitions throughout the year. The museum was established by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation in 1939. It adopted its current name after the death of its founder, Solomon R. Guggenheim, in 1952.
Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the cylindrical museum building, wider at the top than the bottom, was conceived as a "temple of the spirit" and is one of the 20th century's most important architectural landmarks. The building opened on October 21, 1959. Its unique ramp gallery extends from just under the skylight in the ceiling in a long, continuous spiral along the outer edges of the building until it reaches the ground level. The building underwent extensive expansion and renovations in 1992 (when an adjoining tower was built) and from 2005 to 2008.

I took this from the window of the airplane using my Canon G10. The weather was not the best nor was the light. The small sensor of the G10 caused significant noise in the darker areas of the image and when viewed in color the image was drab.
For me the B&W approach gave this view a timeless look, one where it could have come from a newspaper in the 50's. I liked the effect with the grain and noise, and it does look much better viewed large...:-))
The clouds were breaking a bit on this one, so I tried to get a better shot!
As with the last shot, please don't feel obligated to comment, just wanted to share my trip!
Thanks, as always, for your views and comments!
Manhattan, NYC. July 23, 2006.
This is what a small town boy feels like when he's visiting the Big city.
