This was the legendary stuffed tomato I had at Mountain Winery; it was a large orange tomato stuffed with Roma tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil. And drizzled with pepper, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. WOW.
AKA the meal i wanted to be better than it really was.
i think my love of authentic Lebanese food spoiled me for the flavors of this - they were weak and just off. pinenuts and allpsice do not make it Lebanese. oh well, shame on me for falling for it and / or not knowing how to tweak it more authentic. but Deb at Smitten Kitchen makes anything look delicious and maybe that sweet baby distracted me.
so a lot of work for a lot of food that i just wasn't nutty about eating. i did have a red bell pepper in need of cooking so i stuffed it along with the eggplant and it was actually my favorite of the two. overall the dish was too heavy and oily and we even made it meat-less!

Desde el lugar en que ahora me encuentro
imagino, otra vez, a la muerte
más paciente conmigo, como inerte
ante tanta belleza, ya en el centro
de la belleza. Palacio adentro,
escuchando tu latido, sin verte,
cerrados los ojos para quererte
tan viva. Y me decido, y exploro. Entro
yo en tu gran jardín, entro en tu castillo,
donde, en la noche, se siente una noria
de luz que tiñe el agua de las fuentes.
Con la música consigo la gloria.
Alhambra, legado que nunca mientes.
Eres sólido aliento de castillo.
i was trying to take a picture of what i was carrying after azra made me carry his camera, but the fact that the big camera is being used to take the picture and the other 2 bags are behind me means this picture doesn't really show the extent of it. not exactly a 442 and 4 wireless receivers, but i'm a wuss. :P
boudin, cane syrup glaze, Orleans mustard, benne seed brittle, collard greens.
A flavour-filled white boudin stuffing was hidden within tender moist quail slicked with a lacquered slightly crisp skin. The pleasing savoury flavours were kissed with an almost praline like dust of benne seed brittle. Loved the sauteed collard greens on this plate, which was reminiscent of good wok-fried Chinese broccoli. I liked the contrasting flavours on this plate: the mild tannic bitterness of the collards greens against the richer deep flavoured game/stuffing then the pop of crunchy sweet and slight pepperiness from the Orleans mustard drizzle.
Healthy yummy dish, long cabbage leaves stuffed with minced pork, seafood and dried mushrooms, folded into rolls, steamed and then dressed with sauce and garnished with spring onions.
I have a new idea; I would try to fold them into cone-shape next time.
My lunch today - an experiment with stuffed chillies. So good hot or cold! I also experimented with turning my rice slightly pink, which I did by placing two pickled baby beetroots in with the rice while it cooked. It did turn the rice a bit pink, and it didn't taste of vinegar at all, so I was quite pleased!
Stuffed Chillies
1 clove garlic
1/2 shallot
Small piece ginger
Small handful basil, mint and coriander leaves
300 g pork mince
2 tbsp fish sauce
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp sesame seed oil
Juice 1 lime
4 shredded lime leaves
100g / 5 medium-sized mild chillies
1 small chilles, sliced
Place the garlic, peeled shallot, ginger and herbs in a food processor and mince them finely. Then add the pork mince and process until smooth and mixed well. Then, add the liquids and lime leaves and mix again.
Cut the chillies in half and deseed them, the stuff with the pork mince. Leftovers can be formed into burgers as well. Bake on a baking tray in a preheated oven at 190c for 20 minutes.
This bento is from J-Box, although I haven't seen it, or the white one, in stock for a while.

With smoked sausage, tomato & artichoke bruschetta, baby spinach and a smidge of Cowgirl Creamery Triple cream cheese.
I had an extra frame laying around and I wanted something new in my house, so I made this.
Definitely not my best attempt, but it will do for now.
Stuff that has accumulated in my adventures/mail over the last few days.
That reminds me, I need to leave feedback for a few people.
