This is how we started, with a SB800 thru a translucent umbrella to illuminate the background. Here you can see what those reflecting surfaces are. The image has no strenght at all, so we got rid of that background light and played toward a more dramatic shot
Helping a friend with her project and shot some food a while back, kinda noticed it again going through my own files and redid my own processing. This is what i ended up with!

Stopped by to pray at Otahuhu mosque. First try i gave him my handset at full brightness level which is not that significant. Asked my friend to switch on the van front light to lit the model. The white wall on the left (not seen in picture) act as reflector.

Another strobe shot from that night in Hatboro. I started editing this one and just took it way too far... then I took it further.
I put way too many effects on it. It has a certain style... it's definitely weird though.
Had a Photoshop class with Tim Buerger the other day.
Worked on some of the photos I did in a previous strobe lesson in Minato Mirai, Yokohama. Now it feels like the lesson is complete... from the shooting to the post-production.
I was never a huge fan of flashes and non-natural light but I really like the results of this class... time to practice!

Edwin and I were testing our strobe gear at the Rethink studio loft and he took these shots with his Sony A700 as I went monkey ape shit behind the funky Chinese opera mask. We had two strobes firing on both sides. I did the post production and retouching in this shot.
