I was experimenting with zero ambient light, creating all the light from my two strobes.
Practising again with strobes bare 580 left shoot thru umbrella 580 right and behind, thought I had better crop his ugly head off even if it does stuff the composition, just about the light
Strobist info: D300s on long exposure, subject is exposed by the flash test button on the SB600.
Appart from corpping and colour correction, no Photoshop has been used in creating these.
Shooting the mobile phone models in Mongkok, Hong Kong.
Strobist: Phottix PPL-400 strobe with 40cm softbox (no diffuser) at 1/64 power, at 4 o'clock, hand-held above model. Triggered with Phottix Strato triggers.
Early 1950s Lau NiteAire box fan.
Shot with a single Novatron 2100C head with umbrella, placed about 6 feet away from the fan and angled about 40° above horizontal, manually fired three times with the TEST button.
Just a picture of my wal-mart stobe light I got a few years ago. I'd really like to take pictures of more UV reactive items. I just have to find some.
So what do you do on a sunday evening after yumming up some din dins?... Thats right! go out and have your fist go at some off camera flash antics with your Canon ST - E2.

Two light strobes...umbrella reflector to left high and set at 1/4 power...and soft box to right set at 1/4 power (2 X 580EXII)...1/100 sec f9,ISO 200...Canon 7D with 70-200 L IS USM
Nikon D3 1/90 f/4.8 ISO 4500 I used one SB-800 on a Nano stand triggered by pocket wizards. I used a snot on the strobe pointed at the pilot and panned left (back) to add visual effect of movement. This is part of the Personal Courage Wing in the Museum. The North American Aviation P-51 Mustang was an American long-range single-seat fighter aircraft that entered service with Allied air forces in the middle years of World War II. As well as being economical to produce, the Mustang was a fast, well-made, and highly durable aircraft. The definitive version of the single-seat fighter was powered by the Packard V-1650-3, a two-stage two-speed supercharged 12-cylinder Packard-built version of the legendary Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, and (the P-51D) were armed with six of the aircraft version of the .50 caliber (12.7 mm) Browning machine guns.

This time strobes ARE the posing models! It was quite difficult to light this scene as most of my strobes were the subjects of the photo!

This is the setup shot for this.
Strobist: Two Vivitar 285HVs (1/16 power) left and right side, one Pentax AF360 (1/32 power) middle. Vivs triggered by CyberSyncs, Pentax on Slave2 mode. Also a Pentax 240 (full power - optical slave) bounced off of white foamcore to light front of strobes and stands.
I've never used a strobe light I've had since my early teenage years for, well, anything. I finally decided to whip it out and do some long-exposure shots with a really slow strobe. After 10 minutes of shooting, I was rather nauseous, but a couple of the photos turned out pretty well.

Strobist: Sigma 530 in umbrella at camera left (1/8 of power). Another Sigma with homemade grid almost in the same axis of the other... 1/32 of power, gelled with 1/4 cto. Triggered by Radio Poppers Jrx.
