This was fun. First time I tried capturing smoke I was pretty lazy so didn't take time to set it up and so had to do a lot of cleaning up in post. This time I set it up right, black background and everything. I even took the time to gel the flash for different colors (made gels out of those colorful report covers). All I pretty much did in post is increased the contrast and put the different colors together in PS.
Its amazing how much time you save by taking the time to do something right the first time :D

Strobist. Vivitar camera right angled down at smoke. White paper to reflect light on opposite side of smoke opposite the flash. DIY gels on flash.
A series of flowers thrown in the air and an attempt to freeze them with strobes. All composited together to make a heart.
NJTR GP40PH-2 4109, CNJ, sits on track 2 at Suffern station before shoving back east to Hoboken, New Jersey.

LMX B39-8 8520 poses at Burlington Northern’s locomotive servicing facility in Denver, Colorado on December 9, 1990. Built in November, 1987, the 8520 is painted in the later variation paint scheme with red painted front handrails, red around the number boards/headlight and a patch of red on the nose. Since delivery, flashing strobe lights had also been added near the front anti-climber as well to enhance visibility at grade crossings.
I shot a couple of versions of this with a fractal filter and while the red gel edged it, this one with a bare flash isn't too shabby.
From a great evening with friends including one all the way from Australia, Denis Smith.
I know I will get a ton of slack for this, but yes, I cut Rudy's head off. This might be a risky move, but I wanted the feeling he is a rocket taking off, jumping out of the frame.

'61 Plymouth at Pearsonville. Another one, never properly processed or shared before, from the April 2010 Pearsonville workshop. 1:14 of full moon with white LED snooted into the headlights and two hits of magenta, gelled strobe (I think) straight down.

Circa 1973 in my dining room. The top of a glass filled with milk with droplets from a handheld baster. Triple flash-red, blue, green filters on the strobes.

Lana is originally from Ghaza, yet she lived quite a while in London. She's my colleague and close friend.
We decided to set up a studio session of portraits yet they would carry some sort of message or identity behind them - a socio-political one and this came up.
I was actually planning for such shot ever since January but I got the chance to do it now. Hope you like it, strobe is umbrella up ahead.
