Delicious chicken stuffed with rosemary and clementine oranges, and roasted to perfection! There were so many different steam configurations, it was hard to pick one.
Strobist info: Camera left strobe at about 1/4 power bounced into umbrella triggered with cable, and behind the chicken is a cheapo slave flash (full power - that's the only option).
Had a fantastic explore this week at West Park hospital near Epsom, with Paul, Ash and Bevan (who shall now be known as Scaredy Cat Thomson). Despite only seeing a fraction of the site in the few hours we had in there before it got too dark, we managed to see an awful lot. It was also pretty spectacular to see a full padded cell, with all the padding, something i've not managed to see on any other urbex'.
I only had my G9 with me at the time, but with a strobe (430EX) and gels, managed to have some fun. I'll certainly be taking the D300 back next time.

1xAlienBee B1600 at 1/16th power and a 20 degree grid spot to camera left to provide light on subject. 1xSB-800 and Sunpak 433D (in frame) behind subject pointing back at the camera. SB-800 with blue gel and Sunpak 433D with red gel. Both set to 1/8 power.

I had fun doing this shoot for my cousins and my nieces aka daughters. Its the first time I used strobe lighting but it was a nice learning experience. Funny thing of this shot was that, Penny, the family dog, walked in the shot and sat there, I thought why not it was perfect. Sometimes A picture just comes togethers by itself.
There were blue stage lights all around. I had one LP120 at 1/32 snooted on the guitar.
This isn't necessarily my favorite shot from this batch, but it's my most deliberate use of a strobe, that I think works well. I was supposed to highlight the equipment the band was using.

I was trying a few different portrait lighting patterns tonight with an old mate of mine, using two small strobes on lightstands. The shots were taken in my lounge with the lights on, I knocked the lights down with a fast shutter speed of around 1/250 which exposed the frame as black. I had my lights in a 7 o’clock pattern, which means my lights weren’t quite looking straight at each other.
The light at camera left was a Nikon SB800 set to SU4 (slave) mode, to the right of camera was a Canon 580EX II and a Pocket Wizard Plus II trigger. The hat was one I had in my wardrobe lol. I had my subject turn this way and that for different looks and I liked all of them.
So, the first thing was to get the ambient where I wanted it, I dialed in f/5.6 and 1/250 off the bat, then took a test shot to see where my lights were at, I started at 1/32 power. I was 1 stop too dark so cranked both up to 1/16th power, skin tones looked good now so I went with it.
Thought i'd try some stroboscopic photography need a darker background i think.... Strobe: 34 flashes Min.

I changed the background using a white table-cloth instead of dark grey woollen cloth. With one strobe used as a key light the white cloth became grayish and very unattractive. I bleached it with Photoshop , but all the same I'm looking forward to having a second sb800 to whitewash the background

One of the six shots I used to spell the letters of my name in a 4 x 4 square shelf in my room (see composites for full effect here and here). Camera was set to bulb and the flash was fired in each shelf individually in sequence. Black shelves, red wall behind and green gel on strobe.
Some barrel distortion from the kit lens (but it was the only thing wide enough I have at the moment) but other than that I like it (even when you can see my hand multiple times). -
