I pulled out my old work jacket and weapon and decided to have a little fun.....OK, I was bored.
Strobist:
1xAlienBee B1600 at 1/16th power and a 20 degree grid spot to camera left to provide light on subject. 1xSB-800 and Sunpak 433D (in frame) behind subject pointing back at the camera. SB-800 with blue gel and Sunpak 433D with red gel. Both set to 1/8 power.

Another from the photo shoot with Derek. This time I was trying to use a strobe and long exposure to make the sequence. Unfortunately being indoors didn't help and since I couldn't afford a super nice strobe, I think it didn't turn on and off fast enough to really stop his action. Still came away with some kinda cool shots though, especially for my first time trying this technique.
Sunday, up at 5 am, ready to go skiing. Read the weather reports - 130 km/hr winds, so we didn't go. Down to the lake instead to get some strobist snaps of the early morning cycling brigade, lit by remote strobe.
They didn't come - seems it only happens Monday to Friday. Meh. I just got frozen waiting instead. This was the best I could do...

I accidentally had the camera set to ISO 800 so I am pleased with the result even at this high ISO.

I've been admiring Dustin Diaz's (http://www.flickr.com/photos/polvero/) work on Flickr and decided to venture into the world of strobist. Bought 3 PocketWizard Plus II, Nikon SB-28, Photek Softlighter II, a Manfrotto light stand, and some adapters for the Sony hotshoe.
Strobist: Nikon SB-28 with Honl Snoot directly above the wooden dude. Triggered by PWs.
Strobist info: 580 exII with 24" softbox left of camera, 580 ex with shoot through umbrella extreme right and high pointed down to the tree, 580 exII just right of camera in a brolly, all speedlights sitting on Flex tt5's, Canon 5D with a mini TT and AC3 for ratio control (manual) metered with a sekonic 380.
Strobist: ... but it was that super-duper powerful fireball that's free to all on any given sunny day. I've had a lot of people interested in the photos I took of my Canon G10 Waterfield Design camera case, but once they learn that I used 3 strobes, they lost interest in trying it themselves. So I finally took a break from my studies and set up my DIY ultra-cheap soft box for lighting exclusively with the sun to show everyone how easy it is to take these photos. Soft box setup photo is here, construction details are in this post. I've left myself and the white foam core board in the photo so you can see how I was lighting from the front; Strobists know where to look. :-)
Thanks to DH & the Strobist Community for teaching all of us how to better illuminate our photos, no matter what the light source is. Kudos to mingthein for the tips, tricks, and inspiration on fine watch photography.
This photo is specifically for folks who look at my photos and think you need a fancy expensive DLSR camera to take nice photos. This photo was taken by my Canon point & shoot camera and you can compare it to the adjacent photos taken by my DSLR.
The watch is a knock off purchased last year in Beijing. It's too gaudy for my tastes, but I'm such a sucker for skeleton watches and the workmanship on this watch is very impressive. I'm sure there are glaring defects in it for someone who is a watch connoisseur, but it's good enough for me. The prices for real Vacheron Constantin watches that I've seen start around new Mini Cooper prices and go up to luxurious house in the hills prices. Needless to say, I will not ever be purchasing an original at those prices!

Well it is about that time for me to head back overseas and check out Paris, France. It will be my first time hanging with the french (don't count the french speaking cities in switzerland) and i hope to have a good time.
I do know one chick in Paris and she has agreed to tour me around the city. As always i'll be on the hunt for any and all things cool. if any of you have been please let me know of some places to go. I don't leave 'til next monday (7th) so any concerts, art shows, anything that sounds interesting to see, experience or photograph please holler at me.
So far i haven't picked a place to stay. I wanted to stay at a hotel called The Five but since our dollar is so amazingly lame, 3 nights for 800 bills is not so financially sound (and i think there is a little thing at louis vuiton that is calling my name). As of now i'm looking for an apartment to rent for the week.

Tried to go for something a little more creative, possible for a modeling portfolio. Lighting done with alienbees B800 camera-left with violet gel 70deg reflector, alienbees B800 camera-right with red gel 70 deg reflector, flagged off the backdrop. Tilted softbox camera right, also B800 (32x40). I like the lighting result, especially in conjunction with her makeup. It will be a fun few months ahead while I really get a hang of using these lights and the added capabilities provided by my new stands.
Imaginative names, I know! Done for the first assignment of January, 2012 in the Advanced Digital Class: Experimenting with Light. This is the Strobe part of the assignment.

Taken as part of my photography A Level, me and a friend were experimenting with the effects we could produce whilst using a strobe light. Needles to say that we had a lot of fun!
I had an assistant. I should have had the assistant hold the hair light and put the main light on a tripod. The model moved around, so the hair light missed.
For a model like this I need a six foot tall softbox. Maybe I can make one?
I'm gonna go back to the pane of glass and a white background to get my floating objects. It's kinda working here, but I just can't seem to get enough light underneath and behind. Sorry for the whacked framing, I'm standing on a paint can using a 20mm to get it all in...
Strobist: took the time to shoot the setup. There's my Walgreens silver and blue umbrella lit up with a Viv 285 cranked. The Viv 4600 is wired to my D50 by a PC sync and sits on the little stand in the middle and the one on the left is an optically triggered Viv 283 and sorta filling the seams. Looking at this I should have just cranked it up and put it behind the backdrop to even everything out....
With Sam's profile all but done I headed on down to Norwich to put it to bed and discus future projects with the Dirt Box boys. Once all aboard the bat-mobile Sam took us on a confusing drive through middle of no where looking for a pub that he wasn't to sure of its location. We eventually found it and wrapped up the profile with this portrait, followed by the interview that was conducted by Anthony and myself while taking in the beautiful views and sampling a few of the local brews.

We moved further on into the city in search for what is a rarity in rollerblading, a good right sided wall ride. We all threw our selves at this, even I gave it a bash! But once I bruised the hell out of my feet I decided it was time to capture one of Smithys beautiful Mute wallrides.

Delicious chicken stuffed with rosemary and clementine oranges, and roasted to perfection! There were so many different steam configurations, it was hard to pick one.
Strobist info: Camera left strobe at about 1/4 power bounced into umbrella triggered with cable, and behind the chicken is a cheapo slave flash (full power - that's the only option).
Well we tried something different for a change, not the usual planking lying down on the ground.

I love abandoned houses like ridiculously love them to an extent no person should their character is awesome there is a sense of mystery and always a story as to how the place got that way and plus if we break something being absolute idiots getting the shot we want or getting black paint all over the shop because the guys don’t understand the fact I want it on them doesn’t really matter (keep your eyes peeled for the shots to come) and that to me makes for an awesome shoot…
The Ailment are an awesome band from the sunshine coast, I got the time to hang out with them and shoot their promo’s past Sunday and this is what I’ve come up with so far got a tonne more to edit two more locations slash themes figured I’d edit in the order I’ve taken the shots just to be easy, got a mad t-shirt tan slash camera tan from this location so hot sliced my legs up real bad too but it was fun, all the guys are really awesome dudes really genuine people and their music absolutely shreds, I’ll be working with them again soon on their forthcoming EP out later this year, you can go check them out here I strongly recommend you listen to their stuff (www.myspace.com/theailmentband) or stalk them at their shows…
