Strobe info: SL 580EXII on the right side os the câmera, slightly above the model + SL 430EXII on the background. Both triggered by the 60D built-in flash.
Dicranocephalus wallichi bourgoini, focus stack using studio strobe. Considerably lower definition than the speedlight image due to the monolight's long flash duration of about 1/1000 second, about ten times as long as the other flash. Full resolution at 1024px.
Lighting info: 66cm portalite left and right in the back (Ranger RX), gridded spot on the background (Ranger Quadra), vertical gridded stripbox above camera (BXRi). Nikkor 85mm 1.4G / D700.

This is a Falcon 7X, and brand new to boot. Shiny new, I bet the leather inside smells delicious. we followed the aircraft down the taxiway as it was performing some system checks, and the Jet A1 exhaust smelled delicious for sure!
Each year my camera club arranges a model night; this year it was last evening. It's not my favourite subject, however these are my three favourite shots.

Alienbees B800 shot through a PCB Beauty Dish (White) I metered my camera for the ambient light and used just enough strobe to make the subject pop.
there was a ride at the fair that had a strobe light, so i shot the guy who was working the ride and got this one. crazy shit is happening all around us, just press the button ;-)

I've been admiring Dustin Diaz's (http://www.flickr.com/photos/polvero/) work on Flickr and decided to venture into the world of strobist. Bought 3 PocketWizard Plus II, Nikon SB-28, Photek Softlighter II, a Manfrotto light stand, and some adapters for the Sony hotshoe.

A booth demonstrating optically triggered studio strobes. It we was a bit of a challenge trying to get the strobes to go off for you with quite a few people triggering them with their cameras at the same time.

I was at home sat and bored during the night, I saw a little toy from my nice. Turned on and start playing with my D40 in a low shutter speed. That is the result...
It wasn't necessary a retouch so it is pretty much straight out the camera.
One thing I've realized lately is that I need to learn these strobes of mine. I have 3 speedlights and rarely use them. So, inspired by the cupcakes made here I decided to shoot some pics of them. The baker was having none of that as she demanded to be in the pics as well...which gave me more to work with. One light camera left and a little high through an umbrella. One light lower right bouncing off a reflector for fill since the reflector alone wasn't giving me what I wanted. I really need a studio to tinker with. The kitchen isn't big enough for this type of setup. Anywho...lighting remains one of the most interesting and challenging things about this hobby of mine. I hope to master it one day...but fear I'll lose interest if I do. One of my many quirks. Ah, well. Whatchagonnado?
