Testing the new Nikon SB-28 I picked up last night. I know...my desk is a bit dusty back there and you can see the flash...just testing it out though...
For the strobist. Nikon SB-28 1/32 behind computer triggered with Gadget Infinity V2.

Shutter Speed: 1/800 sec
Strobist: Sb-24 in a cutout in the brick wall that you see on the side of the frame, fired with a pw plus 2. Sb-26 further back behind the bench, fired with the built in optical. Sb-28 camera left against the other wall, fired with a pw plus 2.

Captured using Sync and Delay, with a microphone sensor and delay of 2.0 ms.

These ants speed run up and down tree trunks. Notice they have enlarged front femurs.

"This ant is Opisthopsis rufithorax Emery, a close relative of the sugar ants (Camponotus). You will note the large eyes on the corners of the head: these ants have excellent vision and will evade an oncoming human by darting around the far side of a tree trunk. You would also have noticed the strange, jerky way these ants progress - they are called 'strobe ants' in some quarters because of this."

Strobe lights seem to make what appear to be multiple frames as more solid objects. If that makes any sense. I'm not thinking too well right now.
2 strobe lights bounced from Umbrella one front, one from right side half power, triggered by camera CLS
3X 600 watt strobes. Quality build, 1.5 second recycle time & easy to use. The 22" beauty dish is awesome.

I'm not entirely clear on what caused the strobe to fire the second time, perhaps there was a second shot fired, or perhaps it was the pellet wobbling around inside the egg, or... not sure. Anyway, the egg on the left is showing the initial impact, and the one on the right (really the same egg) is shown flying through the air, and showing up a smaller impact hole from a previous shot that wasn't dramatic enough, so we shot the same egg again. :-)
(Lighting and triggering details comparable to the previous shot; strobe was camera left this time, though.)
Not the cleanest photographic environment... I'll have to work on that for future shoots. :-)

When using strobes it has always been tough for me to get bokeh. Adding a 3 stop ND filter sure helps!

At San Miguel Island there were rivers of krill. Here the diver with the BIG STROBE is hovering over a cloud of the small crustaceans. Oh, and I love the stylish pink drysuit.

Ive always seen such cool shots with gas masks, turns out I had one at my house all along that I didnt even know about. I'll get around to posting some shots with it later.
I wanted alot of distortion in this shot so I used my sigma 10-20mm at 10mm about three ft away for the effect. ;)
Strobist: sb-600 at 1/16, sb-80dx at 1/32
Running around firing off my sb-25 into the trees.
Set camera to 15 second timer released exposure, ran beneath the hill line and fired off a couple of flashes from one side to the other.
Shooting hockey on strobes with a 400mm lens. Fun stuff.
Three strobes, one at center ice and for each end zones pointed at the ceiling (unknown brand/model)

Just a quick bit of lighting practice with Chewbacca tonight. Really need to keep working at my off camera flash as some of the strobist work out in the Flickrverse is amazing.

Well, this is the first portrait using my new Sb-24 flash that I'm uploading... It still looks pretty harsh, with strong edged shadows, but that's because I don't have any light modifiers yet to soften it up (I plan on building a reflective umbrella or softbox, given the amount of DIY tutorials around :D )
Exams are finally over! I didn't do too good, but oh well, now it's time to just relax, enjoy the life and the summer and take some great photos out there ;)
Strobist info: One bare Sb-24 camera left and a DIY reflector on the right.
