Sadly I’ve not been around much on Flickr over the past few months or taken many photographs due mainly to not being very well (nothing serious thankfully) and real life getting in the way as it is wont to do.
This leaves me with a bit of a challenge in completing my 100x project by the end of the year As it is only three-quarters of the way through. So I thought I would rummage through this year’s images and have a go at preparing some that I’ve not yet published. There are quite a few: a bit of a mixed lot.
Here are the first six that I processed yesterday, all rather colourful and weird (I should have called my project ‘Wild and Wacky’ instead of the rather pretentious ‘Creative Photography’!).
Here are some brief notes:
#74 Transcendence - This was taken in the bedroom of a hotel we stayed in at the beginning of the year. The headboard had a blue and purple striplight inbuilt (just shows what dodgy hotels we use). It’s a two-image in-camera multiple exposure using Darken blend. The ICMs use diagonal movements.
#75 Fatal Attraction - An in-camera multiple exposure of three ICMs using Darken blend. It’s of a country lane with dark hedges on either side, using one twist and two zoom movements.
#76 Migraine - This is another product of the long-running Christmas Tree Light ICMs project taken last January, taken just walking towards the tree wiggling the camera. It wasn’t the best result (an understatement!) but I wanted to try postprocessing it with Topaz Studio 2. This one was processed principally using the Radiance filter with some additional mucking about in Affinity. I’ll post this to Sliders Sunday today.
#76 Diamond Light - Another three-image in-camera multiple exposure using Darken blend. There were three ICM movements - the diagonals and a vertical. It’s of a backlit wooden glasses wall cabinet in my dining room; you can see some glasses on the right if you look carefully…
#77 Dancing Angels - This is a straightforward ICM using a down-and-around movement during the exposure. It’s of the tree lights in the village church taken on a January afternoon. You can see some yellow flowers in a vase on the windowsill behind: I couldn’t really avoid the flowers in the shot but it was an interesting result nonetheless.
#78 Light Speed - In the same church, this two-image in-camera multiple exposure using Darken blend (I think), both were zoom ICMs, post-pickled for colour .
Thanks for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy some of the images. Happy Sunday :)
I started this project - Working Class - some month ago.
The basic idea was to use 2 studio lights (1 softbox and 1 striplight Walimex vc 200) but I've found that the best result (I was looking for) was achievable using only one strobo each time.
3 basic sets, (i) white with light just in front of the model and a reflector to eliminate shadows, (ii) bare striplight and (iii) softbox with a reflector to smooth shadows.
I will appreciate any comment or suggestion!
In this picture Walimex vc 200 striplight camera left.

The silhouette of the heart, together with the smoke, conveys the warm hearted love of our society. The love that promises soothing warmth, but through the raging inner fire of selfishness, real charity literally burst into flames.

light set up: Striplight high in front. Little softbox for background fill

The laundry room at the chateau was dominated by a large table covered in a white cloth. One night, the striplights were left on and the door was wide open.. I took one look and went for my camera :-)
once again I transformed my living room into a studio, and once again I wish to have a separate room for that, where I could drop all that stuff...
used one striplight from the right, and a second flash into a golden umbrella from above/ behind me to highlight the hair. no other light source except the flashes, it was completely dark.
in photoshop I adjusted the levels to darken my left side, sharpened, increased contrast und used a gradient fill layer in overlay mode to give the cool flash light a warmer hue. the background was masked to leave it unchanged.

For this product shot, a striplight was used from the right and a system flash was used to create the vignette on the background as well as illuminate the top edge of the tomato.
The striplight was at a 90° angle to the subject and was only a few centimeters away.
The tomato was lit from the upper left with snoot and honeycomb attachment.

Our first high speed shoot out with dance models. We used 4 speedlites head set to 1/32 which means real time of shot is nearly 1/17 000 s. Everything was perfectly sharp. We had to use bigger ISO, because we dont have enough flashes.
Two flashes were on 120 cm octo from up. One on strip light from back left, one on striplight right back.

#3 | LOST IN DRUGS
The perfectly reflective silhouette of the syringe literally blots out all our doubts and worries and makes us surrender to the clarity of intoxication. The smoke shows as a contrast the excessive toxicity of the drugs, which cannot be admitted.

Setup: 2 striplights left and right each containing a Speedlite to highlight the outline of the bottle. 1 Speedlite through diffused Rogue Grid for the label and 1 speedlite bounced off a Rogue Flashbender for the neck and spray. Bottle was sprayed with a matt coating, then the condensation added using Glycerin/water mix. All Speedlites fired at 1/32 power.
Lessons.
1. Reduce flash duration to 1/64th power to freeze the liquid.
2. Clean bottle properly before applying matt coating.
3. Centre the bottle around the label.
4. Neck lighting does not extend down enough
5. Waterproof the label to prevent damp patches.
Well we are days away from the premiere of the final season of Game of Thrones and I for one can't wait. Are any of you out there in the flickrverse with me?
As some of you may recall I worked with my son, Kyle, to recreate the Jon Snow posters from the last two seasons when they were released and this year was no exception. Makes for a nice triptych of Kyle Snow posters!
I am always so grateful for Kyle's willingness to work with me as we labor to recreate the look and feel of the poster. This year he really outdid himself. I'm pretty happy with the way this turned out. The amount of styling, lighting and Photoshop work for this one beat out the other two posters we created by a mile.
If you haven't seen the current 2019 Jon Snow poster that inspired this image, take a look here.
Just for fun, I included the last two Kyle Snow posters we created in the comments below.
This was from a very fun session messing around with Shannon. We took turns light painting each other. He did one of me blasting a laser out of my cell phone (I will try to post later). (EDIT: I didn't post the cell phone shot to Flickr - but you can see it here.

After a few weeks of creative deprivation caused by a deep cut and a new situation in my life I try to catch up with my work and slowly return to normal life...
Last weekend Teymur Madjderey aka www.icedsoul.de/ was in Town for a visit. We went to the lightGIANTS Studio for some shots.
We had a lot of fun and this is one shot out of the batch.

On a walk around Farnborough Business Park I was looking for alternative views of the airship hangar. I found this reflection in the office building across the road to be quite appealling. I had to choose th angle carefully to ensure that I wasn't part of the shot so that meant that I had to modify the perspective in Photoshop. I also removed some distracting striplights inside the building
