the camera left strips internal reflector is white, the internal reflector on the right is silver.

I was hoping for a right or wrong answer. Not 'both have their uses'. Now I have to make more reflectors...

(apologies to my friends on facebook who have already seen this in my misc photography collection. hey. you can say that you saw it first! ;) )

Sorry for the long absence from flickr. I do look at your streams, and I do post on the groups, but I just didn't upload anything for a while. I've been occupied, and it was much easier to leave it on facebook..

I've been meaning to push myself to learn lighting - last year was supposed to be the year, but I didn't really get the chance to do it. Hopefully I can do more of it this year.

This is one of the few experiments I did from that resolve.

I'm trying to think of a way to reduce the light on the second leaf (behind the petals), but can't think of a way for now. It would also look odd if you have the leaf without light falling on it. Any advice?

I started this project - Working Class - some month ago.

The basic idea was to use 2 studio lights (1 softbox and 1 striplight Walimex vc 200) but I've found that the best result (I was looking for) was achievable using only one strobo each time.

3 basic sets, (i) white with light just in front of the model and a reflector to eliminate shadows, (ii) bare striplight and (iii) softbox with a reflector to smooth shadows.

I will appreciate any comment or suggestion!

Tests w/ my new homem

Tests w/ my new homemade strip-lights. They're a work-in-progress, I'm not entirely happy with how they're functioning.

Currently the strip-lights are each constructed from a two foot segment of white, vinyl gutter with a hole cut in the center for the flash to fire through. Diffusion material is a double layer of wax paper taped over the "top" or front of the gutter. The inside of the gutter is painted with silver spray paint, theoretically to improve efficiency, but I suspect that the original white was better at spreading the light throughout the length of the enclosure.

The homemade enclosures are light enough to hang free from the Vivitar 285HV's that are bungeed to the backs against the holes.

I hate these flaming curtains they're not the color of your hair

I hate these striplights they're not so undoing as your stare

I hate the buttons on your shirt when all I wanna do is tear

I hate this bloody big bed of mine when you're not here

I picked these flowers from along the hedgerows. The last bit of Summer. I took a larger bunch to give to the old French lady from whom we rent the house when we went to visit her today for the first time at the nursing home in Dun le Palestel about 9 miles from the house. Unfortunately we returned to ominous skies and a downpour so I lost all the natural light and had to take the pics of them in the harsh striplights in the kitchen. The grey wooden things in the window are the shutters.

My favorite from strobist meet-up in Bern.

Strobist info: umbrella camera left with 1/4 CTO (ha, ha) , DIY striplight camera right. Rest is ambient. Both flashes running in FP mode to get the ambient down enough and still have a shallow depth of field.

If you are posting from the meet-up don't forget to tag them "bern0509"!

Zip Strips (Pre-focus)

Not a lot to say about this. Taken very quickly at Bolton train station as I went to meet Kerry. I took a very similar shot in my last 365, and I think i may revisit a few ideas from last time out to see if I can better them at all.
