Contrary again to our fears the new nest site is perfectly big enough for the 'knees bend, arms stretch' exercises the chicks have been induging in over the last 2 weeks. From fairly lazy looking stretches they progressed to wing waves and are now onto the frantic flapping stage, interspersed with calming bouts of preening. Instinctively they know that muscles and feathers have to be in tip-top condition before the final jump. At the moment there appears to be one chick slightly in advance of the other - more vigorous in its flaps - so that it is regularly raising itself up to 3 or 4 feet above the nest. Just a puff of wind and it could be off at any time. Its sibling is holding back a bit and although both are managing to tear up their own food an incident on Friday proved that Mum is still on the lookout for signs of stress, After watching her smaller chick's struggles intently from her perch for some time she came down into the nest to feed it.
Will tomorrow be the day for a first flight? We are all crossing our fingers for a return to the sunny weather.
At Whinlatter we must say a big thankyou to BIg Brian and Long-Lens Ken for all the magnificent footage we are able to play, showing everyone DVD footage of the latest developments.

This is an early evening picture taken while exploring the mud flat of Crater Island, Utah. I was checking the mud to see if it had dried out enough to allow hiking, which I planned to do the following morning. The condition of the mud was good.
Two weeks earlier I tried hiking here with a handcart and had to abort the trek because the wet mud clung to the handcart's tires, making travel a nightmare. With the knowledge that the mud would co-operate this time, I planned to get revenge for the earlier disappointment.
The tire tracks are not mine and I don't know how old they are..
One of my sets has photos of all my Crater Island handcart hikes.

I met 10 friends at the Senior Center where we walked around the multi-purpose room and did stretching exercises. Afterward we met in the 1st card room to eat lunch and play chickenfoot. Some left and others arrived. Then I went to The Hair Clinic for Sonya to wash & blow-dry my hair; Chelsea is in quarantine.
Pics: A very comfy looking ceramic pillow from the Nanyue King's Tomb Museum. A monument in Guangzhou's sprawling Yuexiu park. Guangzhou at dusk.
My stop in Guangzhou was something of an accident. I had hoped to quickly transit through to Longyan and then Yongding, but I missed the daily overnight train by 15 minutes. This turned out to be a lucky accident as I rather enjoyed Guangzhou. Known to the Western world as Canton, Guangzhou has been the cultural and economic capital of Southern China for centuries. It also happens to be one of modern China's wealthiest and most modern cities, as it was among the first special economic zones in the country.
The city's architecture was equivalent to Shanghai or Beijing in terms of its starkly contemporary flavor (at least among the big, newer buildings). Its bisected by the pearl river, which holds Shamian Island which was occupied by Western powers when the city was established as a treaty port after the Second Opium War. Supposedly very nice and has a bunch of grand 19th century structures, but I didnt make it there. Another thing I didnt see was a seventh century mosque, an example of Guangzhou's importance as an ancient port. What I did see what the fascinating relics discovered during the excavation of the tomb of a preunification Southern kingdom king. This was supposedly one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 1980s if you believe the museums breathless commentary. Much of the first half of the museum was nothing special, but the actual objects from the tomb were quite cool. There were some awesome pieces wraught in gold, particularly a huge screen. There were also a bunch of human sacrifice remains, which was nifty.
Another highlight was yuexiu park, a hugh swath of green running through central Guangzhou. The park includes a few museums, ancient monuments (such as the grandiose statue of four goats), and also happened to be the site of some of the best stretching exercises I've seen so far in china. Ill update with video soon.
As anyone farmiliar with Chinese cousine knows, Cantonese food is famous for its dim sum. Being in Canton itself, I sought out the best dim sum restaurant I could find. I was treated to a truly strange meal. This wasnt your typical dumplings, springrolls, or even chicken claws (a popular snack), but rather 'desecrated fish' and 'eggplant in rebellion.' It certainly wasnt what I expected, but thats part of the point in China.
The one thing that actually shocked me was how few locals spoke English in Guangzhou, perhaps even less than Beijing. Given the city's level of economic development and strong ties to overseas Chinese (many of whom are Cantonese) I would have thought English would be more prevalent.
While Guangzhou was great fun, after a day of soaking up the scene it was time to gear up for the more adventurous phase of my trip - Hakka country and the Tulou Roundhouse!
Mrs Rai.
I met Mr and Mrs Rai in the park in Swindon.
She had just finished jogging with her husband and was doing some stretching exercises when I asked if I could take a photo. Mrs Rai kindly obliged. Many thanks to her. I hope she enjoys her photo.
This was just before it rained, hence the gloomy greyness of the picture.

Hello, my name is Jessica. I am 4 years old and stay in Glasgow. Due to a birthing injury I have cerebral palsy. My mummy and daddy are fundraising for me to be able to have a life changing operation in America that they hope will help me walk.
I am a very determined little girl but would love more than anything to be able to walk, move about easier and keep up with my sister and friends. I work hard personal training weekly; and with my mummy and daddy every day; which has made me strong enough to be able to move about with my kaye walker.
I wear splints on both my feet to keep them in a better position and minimise deformities for me in later life. The operation should prevent my feet position deteriorating any further.
I get a lot of pain in my legs at night because of the tightness in my muscles. My mummy has to do stretching exercises for me to relieve some of the cramp to allow me to get some rest. The operation should help with this pain too.
The operation is called selective dorsal rhizotomy. It is carried out by Dr TS Park at St Louis Children's Hospital in Missouri. Dr Park predicts I will walk unaided in all environments and be able to participate in sports! Please help give me this chance.
I will need to pay for intensive physiotherapy privately at least three times a week when I return home to get the most benefit from the operation. I am so brave and determined and will work hard to get strength increased after the operation.
Please help me. Every penny takes me a step closer to walking.

First pic of a Pied Oystercatcher.
These "Beach Walk" photos were all taken during a morning walk along the beach from Termeil to Tabourie, including occasional excursions behind the dunes into the bush to pursue sounds or sights. I saw lots of birds I wasn't expecting and very few that I was.
Demonstrating the benefits of orthotic management in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, sports injuries, diabetes as well as paediatric patients. It allows the viewer to appreciate the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of those conditions affecting the foot and ankle. The video explains the processes around the casting and manufacture of the various devices that are provided to patients with such pathologies like flat feet and shin splints. Understanding the other adjunct treatments involved in these cases is also important and include stretching exercises and steroid injections.
For the second year in a row, I've got a serious back problem. After consultations with two doctors, I've chosen to try a chiropractor for the first time in my life. So far, all they've done is use an odd ratcheting piece of electronic equipment to measure the tension in my back, and ultrasound to try to loosen that tension. Hopefully this will work for me -- last year, trying the doctor's recommended stretching exercises took over two months to recover. I've got a trip to San Diego coming in one week, and really need to be able to walk, which I can't currently do!

Leg and Lower Body Exercises are happily (and stupidly) skipped by the majority of lifters. However, your leg muscles form the foundation to your POWERHOUSE and can't be ignored.
Too often, people think:
"Who cares about my legs? I'm trying to sell tickets to the guns show and be able to bench press more than my buddies."
While that may be the case, calling on this large leg muscle group releases more muscle building testosterone and growth hormone than training any other muscle group. These natural muscle builders supplement all your other lifts and don't just build your leg muscles, but also pump up your chest muscles and all of the other glamour muscles.
Lower body exercises also force your body to extract more energy (burn more calories) than upper body exercises. Burn fat build muscle - Nice huh? Which one you do will depend on your diet
'Idea' to Building stronger Bigger legs stems from his combination of compound movements combined with regularly switching up exercises, which forces into a state of continuous adaptation. Getting trapped in routines leads to growth-killing plateaus. You don't have to worry about getting into a rut with the Building stronger Abs & Core. program though because you'll never run out of routines and variations with everything he's included here.
With the foundation firmly established, Travis now gets into the actual training routines. The movements are organized into three categories: 1) mid-range power exercises; 2) fully stretched exercises; and 3) peaked contraction exercises. Sit-ups, crunches and leg lifts are the first exercises he suggests fo Building stronger Bigger legs r. None of these are traditional exercises but Travis says they're among the best movements you can do for the Legs.. These movements stress and stimulate the entire body, which means bigger gains everywhere.
