This was my first photo shoot in Boise - I like it! I met Talia through the Boise Photographer and Model Community on Facebook (a very large and diverse group - I like it!). We decided to shoot at Freak Alley early on a Sunday morning in May 2015. Talia brought two friends with her and I ended up shooting with both. Great shoot - and it looks like we will be shooting again in the near future. No complaints here!

This is the first of 23 photos I took early evening of Monday, 11 August A.D. 2025, as a photo session I've titled "Upper Body Workout in 90-Degree Heat".

 

The temperature was the same 90 degrees Fahrenheit outdoors as well as in my home gym (a.k.a. our garage), so I did a lot of sweating during this all-out bodybuilding workout.

 

As with every workout, I first begin with a series of stretching exercises, to loosen my muscles and prepare them for the "shock" they will be receiving as I perform various exercises. The first 7 photos of this session show me doing those warm-up exercises. Although only my left arm stretch is captured in these photos, I also performed the exercise for my right arm.

This year too, I hope to be out somewhere amongst the hills by April hoping to capture the kaleidoscope of vibrant colors. Perhaps somewhere along steep slopes of Hite Cove, or the smooth rolling hills of Gorman, or the vast plains of Lancaster's poppy preserve.

 

As you might have known, I have had a knee surgery 3 weeks ago. Recovery involves a lot of physiotherapy and stretching exercises at home; and it also constrains me from doing any sort of outdoor activity for a while. That includes hiking and carrying heavy equipment like a camera. That just implies that for the next couple of months, my only photography is going to be restricted to me shooting from the car and even the driving part is going to be pretty restricted until my leg gets a little better.

 

That, I fancy, is my main goal for physiotherapy - to go out and be able to shoot more. Because, without going out, I shrivel like a dried out flower....

 

Which brings me back to these photos which I had shot a couple of years ago on a trip to Southern California during the peak of the wildflower season. While I had hoped to get there to shoot in the evening, under slanting golden light to enhance the shadows and accentuate the colors which these rolling hills really lend themselves to, I was not so lucky. But I still managed to get a few keepers. Hopefully, this year, I get to shoot the shots I want in the lighting conditions I like.

Photo wasn’t taken “in the community”, but that is where I go to yoga class. Started doing yoga officially seven years ago, and since I have always loved stretching exercises and have been blessed with great flexibility, thought this would be good for me…little did I know at the time, the extent of what I would learn from this practice. This winter’s knee episode was a setback for many usual activities, but was able to continue yoga using props to assist certain positions. It allowed me to heal at a pace that returned balance as well as strength. The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit word Yug, meaning union. One thing that has become sometimes painfully clear through this practice is that ALL things in life must have a union or balance. The letter “Y” is a perfect example of balance. Truth is, one cannot be enthraulled in passionate enthusiastic infatuation for life and not expect to come crashing down just as passionately to the exact opposite level of deep disappointment, because extreme opposites…be they emotions or muscles, all must dissolve eventually into unity of balance. The purpose of yoga is to sense, feel and experience that union and balance in all areas of one’s life. Friend Deb introduced me to Ellie’s Anusara Yoga class anusara.com/ . Recently had the opportunity to evaluate Ellie’s class, as she is going for further certification…what a different perspective it is to intently watch and take notes, rather than to fully participate in each movement. Yes, we wear clothes to class, but in the privacy of home, anything goes!

 

Getting loosened up for a long walk with a lot of stuff to haul in for our 5 day trip. We didn't have to walk far though. Two guys on snowmobiles gave Yogi and I a ride.
