Queensbury Tunnel, Bradford
Queensbury Tunnel is, or rather was, not just a railway tunnel, but a rather magnificent piece of civil engineering.
When it was built in 1878 it was the longest tunnel on the Great Northern Railway system at 1 mile 741 yards, and held that distinction until 1910.
The bore was on a falling gradient of 1 in 100, dropping towards Halifax and was bored through sandstone by the Diamond Rock Boring Company.
This steamer, was donated in 1997 by the Harry Lay estate to the South Peace Centennial Museum, is unfortunately not operating at present.
