STATEMENT FROM MUSICIAN, COMPOSER & RECORDING ARTIST- SAMI YUSUF
Assalamu alaikom,
A number of announcements have appeared recently on various websites and forums, stating that I am about to release a new album. I realize that this will be welcome news for many people, but unfortunately it is not true. Out of respect for my many supporters I feel compelled to set the record straight and explain the reason for my prolonged delay in releasing a new album.
For the past year, I have been in dispute with the company that has released my previous albums, Awakening Records. I have tried to make every effort to resolve the numerous issues that are the cause of my dissatisfaction with them, but to no avail. The only remaining solution, and one that I do not undertake lightly, is to seek legal redress through the courts. This process has now begun and we can only pray for a swift resolution.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that an album of new material by me will shortly be released. This news is extremely disturbing to me. I do not know from where these reports are emanating. Awakening, for example, only have in their possession a few incomplete demos of some of the songs that I have been working on. Without exception, all of these are unfinished and in an extremely early stage of development. Either musically or in their lyrics they only represent a sketch of what I would wish to release for my discerning supporters and for my own musical, artistic and spiritual satisfaction. I therefore wish to make it perfectly clear that an album comprised of any such recordings could only be put on to the market against my wishes and without my specific approval.
I can only pray that in the not too distant future I will be free to release the album of my new songs that will be completed to my total satisfaction and that of my supporters and represent my musical and lyrical hopes and aspirations for us all.
God bless you ALL
Sami

Swedish phrase of the day.
"Practice in Sälen, go skiing in Åre."
I must admit there´s a point in that statement.
This 40-story building was the tallest outside of New York City at the time of its construction. Designed as the "Jeweler's Building," it originally housed a parking garage on the second through 22d floors. The building's terra cotta-clad, classical design marks it as one of the most prominent high-rise statements of the so-called City Beautiful Movement. It is also the most notable work of the partnership of Joachim Giaver and Frederick Dinkelberg, who had spent most of their architectural careers with the firm of Daniel Burnham & Company.
Biography & Artist Statement:
Lumen Negatives by Mary Celojko
My Lumen images are a form of photogram that is made with traditional photographic materials. A subject is placed on top of BW Ortho Litho film and exposed with sunlight for 3 to 6 hours until the image prints out onto the film. Chemical development and fixation is necessary for the Litho to stabilize the film. My original intention on creating the lumens on Litho film was to create BW negative so I may take the film into the Color darkroom to create the positive image. Although I do have a series of work in this manner, I found that many of the negatives are intriguing and beautiful pieces and are worth viewing. These one of kind Lumen Negatives are scanned and digitally reproduced.
Biography:
I am the Director & Darkroom Manager of the RayKo Photo Center since 1999 as well as a Lab Supervisor at CCSF Photography Department since 2002. I received a BFA in Photography from the Cleveland Institute of Art and has actively worked and exhibited in the Photography medium for 17 years.
CCSF Photography and You:
CCSF Photography department is an important affordable resource for people to learn, create and release their artistic expression. Photography is an important tool for everyone, whether for a better understanding of the basics of image capture or to grow into a career as a Commercial, Editorial, Studio, Architecture, or Fine Art photographer. I feel very lucky to be able to work at an institution that allows me to teach an art that I am passionate about and that inspires my own photographs. An assignment in the Digital Negative for Darkroom Printing class taught at CCSF was my inspiration and start of my Lumen series since 2008.

Heavy rainfall is possible.
At least we won't have to shovel it which is more than I can say for cities to our east.
We could still be on the receiving end of some snowfall Saturday.
Statement of Significance: Sir Henry Parkes Memorial School of Arts is of historic significance as the venue for the now famous 'Tenterfield Oration' delivered by Sir Henry Parkes on 24th October 1889. The School of Arts has also has a long social and cultural association with the construction of Tenterfield as a community and the functioning as a community facility. Architecturally Sir Henry Parkes Memorial School of Arts is a prominent building reflecting the society and era dating back to the 1870s. The building and location reflect the beginning of a community functioning politically and creatively as a whole.
Aesthetic Significance: The School of Arts has a landmark presence in the Town. The building is constructed of four aesthetically significant styles: Firstly, the original part comprising of a Hall and Reading Rooms built in 1876. Followed by this building in 1884 in mixed Victorian Rustic Gothic/ Romanesque style. Thirdly in 1903 a Federation Free Classical Style was completed with the addition of a number 2 Hall to the east, and Finally, the Billiard Room was completed in 1913, comprising of a Federation style design. (Perry, 1998: 109)
Social Significance: The 1875 School of Arts was executed in a function and rudimentary style and the culmination of efforts to fashion and a cultural centre in a pioneer town. The town still represents a community meeting place for the people of Tenterfield. The Main Hall is a memorial to the men from Tenterfield who lost their lives in the Boer War, which ushered in Australia's independent nationhood. This (memorial) Hall is considerably significant through having been created by some of Australia's earliest and best soldiers who grew out of the Upper Clarence Light Horse, established in 1885. The Billiard Room is of moderate significance. It became, as well as its intended use as gathering place for the men of the town to play billiards, a gathering place for the names of the 117 young men of the town who were absent in the Great European War of then indeterminate duration. (Perry, 1998 : 113)
Builder/Maker: Mr Merrell
Construction Year Start & End: 1869 -
Physical Description: There are four major stages of construction, following the demolition of the 1871 slab barn - 1876, 1884, 1903 and 1913. These construction dates embrace different architectural style which are expressive of the separate eras in which each part was built.
The School of Arts as it exists today, is really a complex of separate buildings.
The original part of the existing school of Arts complex, comprising a Hall and Reading rooms built in 1876, was the culmination of community effort following the establishment of a Reading Room in 1863 by Edward Reeves Whereat when the township was barely 10 years old.
In 1884 the building more than doubled in size with the addition of a No.2 Hall to the east, a new bay to the south and gabled frontispieces to the Rouse St Faade. These elements were constructed in a mixed Victorian Rustic Gothic/ Romanesque style.
The Main Hall in Federation Free Classical style, completed in 1903, is a memorial to men from Tenterfield who gave their lives during the Boer War, 1898 - 1901.
The Billiard Room, designed by F. J. Madigan, was completed in 1913 towards the end of period uniquely nationalist architectural expression not known as the Federation Style. (Perry, 1998: 59 -64)

My mini-portfolio shows a range of my skills within the art field. My passion for experimentation with textiles is portrayed in my textiles project: the Urban Environment where I have explored colours, materials, techniques and artists in order to produce a final outfit based on my primary images of the busy, textural graffiti combined with the simple, geometric yellow road lines. I developed my own interpretations of graffiti and textures found within the urban environment. I found that this project allowed me to take some risks during the experimental stages of the project and be braver with the choices I make in order to produce an original final piece.
This portfolio also shows some of my self-initiated work. I took a plain table top and designed a pattern inspired by a mixture intricate Indian patterns found on patterned fabrics for example and ‘doodling’- building up a pattern from some simple drawings of shapes into a page full of patterns made up various designs and details. I developed a design from these visuals after experimentating with various patterns using a colour scheme based on a bedroom decor.
I also have photogrphs of an art project which focusses on the movement of figures. Initially the imagery for this project began with simple line drawings, with the basic outline’s of silhouette figures in mind that could later be transformed into some wire figures. My primary studies involved photographs of figures in mid action. This later developed into drawings inspired by John Singer Sargent’s dancer drawings where very expressive, gestural lines are used to show the direction of the figure’s movement. These drawings led on to create some prints which became the basis of the designs for the final wire sculptures which incorporated the outlines of figures and showed the gestural lines.
