This home is near the home with the Christmas light on the saguaro cactus in the previous photo. Somehow I started thinking back to the "Edward Scissorshands" suburb.

Self-portraits occupied a central place in Gustave Courbet's youthful works. They were aesthetic and moral statements in which Courbet both claimed the heritage of the old Masters, the Dutch and Venetians in particular and indulged in romantic dramatization.
In 1854, already taking a retrospective look at his oeuvre, Courbet wrote to Alfred Bruyas, his patron in Montpellier: "During my life, I have painted myself many times, whenever my state of mind changed. In short, I have written the story of my life". The Wounded Man subscribes to this subjectivity by investing the romantic theme of the artist made heroic by suffering. The picture painted in 1844 was reworked by Courbet ten years later, at the end of a love affair. The woman, who was originally leaning on the artist's shoulder, has been replaced by a sword and Courbet has added a red bloodstain on his shirt over his heart. The artist has ambiguously and seductively combined the most intimate autobiographical register (by evoking a duel) with a death struggle confused with the sensual abandonment of sleep.

Myrea Pettit Artist of Flowers, Fairies, Butterflies, and a Dodo, was privileged to have the opportunity to stand for one hour on London's Fourth Plinth a place normally reserved for Kings or Queens. For this Art Project by sculptor Antony Gormley she chose to be herself representing centuries of traditional British folklore Fairies and Celtic heritage theming her art with her Messenger, using the eyes of an innocent child who from her dull world has seen the light and love and her first connection with the energy of fairy. The connection is energised and reflected by Fairy Myrea in her amazing wings.
Paul Smith has transformed Arne Jacobsen’s bar series into a gorgeous fantasy in black, and one can enjoy a drink while considering thoughts such as ”Take pleasure seriously” and ”Start something new” which are engraved into the black surface.

Statement:The Fishes feel comfort. The Ocean is The Fishes' Home. I visited The Beautiful Fish. The Stones are on the Beach. The Beach is hot! The Sand and Stones have texture. The Stones have Different Hues of Yellows, Greens, and Golds. The Clouds are fluffy. The Schools of Fishes are swimming! The Fish are exciting to me! Some Fishes have scales. The scales protect their Bodies. The scales are shiny. I feel proud!

With sorrow, we are releasing this statement on the occasion of our beloved Getatchew Haile's passing. It was an honor to call him a husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed.
Prof. Getatchew Haile passed away on June 10, 2021 in New York City after a long illness. Prof. Getatchew’s groundbreaking achievements in Ethiopian Studies reshaped the field, and his dedication to his beloved Ethiopia was a source of global renown. He was widely admired for his courage and resilience in the face of significant personal challenges, while his generosity of spirit and joyful embrace of life endeared him to devoted family, friends and colleagues across the world. He leaves behind an enormous legacy and an equally enormous void that will be deeply felt.
Getatchew was born in rural Shenkora, Ethiopia in 1931. His was a modest upbringing that encompassed a period of upheaval and homelessness resulting from the Italian occupation. He was eventually able to enroll at Holy Trinity Spiritual School in Addis Ababa, and at the conclusion of secondary school went abroad for further study. He received a B.A. (1957) from the AUC The American University in Cairo, a B.D (1957) from the Coptic Theological College in Cairo, and a Ph.D. (1962) from the UNIVERSITY OF TUBINGEN (Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen), Germany (where he changed the spelling of his name from “Getachew” to “Getatchew” to ensure proper pronunciation by German colleagues).
