Net Zero Needs Nuclear Power, Shared Presentations Stage 3, Thematic Arena 3, Opportunity petal, an IAEA Statement Event at the United Nations Climate Change Conference UNCCC held at the Expo City Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Blue Zone, 1 December 2023

The IAEA Event: Net Zero Needs Nuclear Power will highlight the crucial role of nuclear power as part of the energy mix. The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mr Rafael Mariano Grossi will announce the ‘IAEA Statement on Nuclear Power’ supported by 40 countries, both those already operating nuclear power plants and newcomers. Together these countries acknowledge that all available low-carbon technologies, including nuclear power, should be recognized, and actively supported. The Statement underlines the benefits of nuclear power, including that nuclear power plants produce no harmful greenhouse gas emissions; that nuclear energy contributes to energy security and the stability of power grids; and that it mitigates air pollution at a local level.

Statement of significance from Southern Grampians Heritage Study - Heritage Matters Pty Ltd

What is significant?

The Byaduk Swimming Pool, located on the Penshurst-Byaduk Road is a concrete swimming pool constructed by a committee of local people in the 1930s. It was the first swimming pool ever constructed in the Shire of Southern Grampians, and at the time was considered to be quite an engineering feat. The creek nearby was diverted and dammed and used to fill and clean the pool be moving through it, and the whole structure was dug by hand. People came from long distances, and sometimes from larger towns such as Hamilton to use the pool. The Pool is no longer used, but provided a focus for entertainment to the children and families of the district every Summer for over 50 years. The Byaduk Swimming Pool complex consists of an inground concrete swimming pool with timber diving board, separate male and female changing rooms, an covered seating area, and a kiosk. No architect, engineer or specific builder was used in the construction of the structure. The pool is remarkably intact, despite being overgrown and weed infested.

How is it significant?

The Byaduk Swimming Pool complex is of architectural, historical and social significance to the Southern Grampians Shire.

Why is it significant?

The Byaduk Swimming Pool complex is architecturally significant as a rare intact example of a rural swimming pool complex designed the early 1930s. It is of further architectural significance as an excellent example of a hand dug swimming pool, and for its use of engineering intelligence, which diverted the local creek through the strucutre to both fill and clean it. The pool is of historical significance as an example of a small community co-operating to build a substantial structure for the benefit of all in the community. Of further historical significance is the pool's representation of the social movement toward health and wellbeing, popular in the late 1920s and early 1930s. It is socially significant as an important meeting place for the Byaduk community for over fifty years.

Found in the Brühl district of Chemnitz. Unfortunately, this quarter is grown lonely in the last years. Empty houses, empty streets, dry fountains, ... Still is has some flair, some impression of being the slack, alternative, young part of Chemnitz.

I have long been fascinated with Art. Whether it involved adorning the inside of my garden shed with crayons when I was five or experimenting with different styles of drawing and painting, I was always inspired to create. This passion continued to grow with my GCSE Art course leading me to appreciate that a future within the Art world was the only option for me. Having enjoyed Art A-Level, I am now preparing for the next step with a foundation course to further my knowledge and understanding of the subject, through Art foundation.

A-level Art has not only allowed me to advance my general drawing and painting skills, but also has given me the opportunity to experiment with a wide range of media including clay and photography. I am drawn to Fine Art and have found myself being inspired by the more traditional styles such as Lisa Milroy’s paintings and William Kentridge’s sketches and also by the more abstract paintings of Francis Bacon. In my spare time I enjoy visiting art galleries both here and abroad.

My hobbies include self-taught guitar and I regularly attend tennis coaching. I am also a keen swimmer and am currently applying to train as a lifeguard. In school, I am a member of Senior Choir and have co-run Junior Art Club, where I encouraged the younger students. I have also taken part in the Young Enterprise Scheme, as Marketing Director of a company.

For my work experience, I visited a Graphic Design Studio and did photography for their website and designed a range of logos for a client. This allowed me to see the impact images can have on consumers.

I have just begun to develop my own style in Art and would love to have the opportunity to refine this further and broaden my knowledge through the completion of your foundation course.

A Statement of Purpose is a sentence that you write, which states, in some detail, what you want to learn about in your research project. ... It will help you develop a Thesis Statement, which comes later on in the research process. It saves you valuable time and effort.

Bob Dylan once wrote that money doesnt talk, it swears. Linking investments and human rights abuses should get attention. Peacemakers from all traditions need to support this kind of thinking and refuse to support companies that gain financially from occupation and violence. We must get into our hearts and out of the head-trips that want only to assign blame.

About bold statements: the irony is extra bitter if one promises but fails to deliver. On the other hand, I do enjoy the “declarative reality approach” taken by the author, as in “It does not look like what it looks like, it looks like what I tell you that it does.”

Artist Statement:

My piece is titled “Constant Remembrance” I learned the concept of constant remembrance at an ashram. The idea is to bring your spiritual awareness into everything you do and that is the attitude I had while creating this piece. I began the work considering unity and creating safe spaces where this can be achieved. I did not want the painting to be about safe spaces, I wanted it to be a safe space with calm energy. The imagery came out of considering the ways we are all connected and where the focus of our efforts needs to be right now. I make a safe space for you by offering a slow moment outside of time and expectations, for thoughtful contemplation.

The imagery references the CO2 cycle, from our fear of the virus and George Floyd’s last words that have become a rallying cry, we are connected by breath. I reference the water cycle, we are connected by water, and we are water and I have the moment of evaporation purple. Visual purple is a chemical reaction in our eyes that lets us see in the dark. There is an ancient Egyptian ouroboros symbol of renewal and “the All is One.” The center, a closed eye honoring the injustice we know is going on all of the time and also a prayer for a calming moment. We close our eyes to really feel something and to remember. The iris of the closed eye is made of eight eyes from victims of police violence. George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Philando Castile, Rekia Boyd, Deborah Danner, Breonna Taylor, Tamir Rice, and Dana Fletcher. The green circle is for green being the last color we see when the light fades and I was considering the moments in between blindness and sight. The black circle is for the melanin in all of our retinas that effects how and what we are able to see. The white circle is for the blind spot we all have where information goes through our optical nerve to the brain for processing. Justice should be blind also. The dot was a last-minute thought. You will see a dot in a circle in a lot of Jahni Moore’s recent artwork, it is an ancient symbol for god, and I wanted to bring him and that into this work
