Three vertical slits on a wall that never learned how to listen. This is the Supreme Court dressed as a spreadsheet: all function, no feeling.

Yes, it's not always that easy to focus indoors with a 1950 rangefinder. Still, the outcome can be rather interesting.

Aaron and I have been hiking and then scrambling for a few years now. Every year we tend to get lighter and lighter gear. Today we both have excel spreadsheets with our complete gear list down to each and every gram. He has sucked me into this light-weight scheme and every once in a while he will e-mail me a list of things I need to buy to keep up with him.

On Tuesday Aaron had a show and tell time with Kristen and I, showing us the latest installments of his new lightweight gear. The new items only included: snowshoes, gloves, gaiters, poles, boots, stuff-sacks, balaclava, stove pot, down pants, down jacket, and more. So pretty much everything! He is now under 7 pounds for a summer overnight bag. Impressive I must admit, especially considering he would be closer to 6 pounds if it wasn’t for my “ridiculously heavy camera bag and lens”, which is partially considered common gear…

While that is mentioned, is there anyone out there with any ideas or reviews/ pros and cons of lighter weight cameras that still allow you to take RAW files and do the rest of the manual settings?

I have had shared many adventures with Aaron and I am looking forward to many more. This shot is from our trip to Cathedral Park. Below are more shots of some of our explorations... Enjoy.

* 1958 Jaguar XK – 150 O.T.S. *

Produced between 1958 and 1960 the XK-150 was Jaguar’s last sport car before the legendary XK-E.

It featured a 3.4 litre double overhead cam six-cylinder engine that produced 210 bhp @ 5500 rpm. It was the world’s first production car with four-wheel disk brakes.

This car has approximately 85,000 miles on it and was restored in 1994. The current owner has had the car over 20 years and regularly drives it on tours and to shows.

This ‘thing’ has been sitting on my computer for quite some time but in between purchasing FileMaker Pro (a professional database application), installing the application on two computers, spending hours and hours trying to learn its inexhaustible features and intricacies (much like Photoshop) only more daunting because it incorporates; spreadsheets, data algorisms, mathematical calculations and a multitude of other complicated, complex features that tend to tire my already tired cerebrum; downloading and installing updated operating systems on two of our computers, then having to update tons of out dated software to be compatible with these new OS’s, re-configuring my LAN network (among three computers); learning iMovie, then discovering that the new OS’s come preloaded with a very good scanning software resulting in saving my old Epson flatbed scanner which I first thought was a “goner” because its native scan software was incompatible with Mac Yosemite and El Capitan, reading two books (“A Time For Truth” by Ted Cruz and “Steve Jobs” by Walter Isaacson), occasionally taking a bath (splish-splash) and even more “occasionally” saying “hello” and “goodbye” to my wife, answering tons of inane emails, taking out the trash (no, not referring to email trash) and, and, and…….well spending time writing this worthless, irrelevant narrative…….. and the point is? Yes, well, I forgot!

Anyway, hope you enjoy “life” my friends………..

Sorry, the girl is AI SDXL

Maybe we'll all go for real someday +++

Everyone Counts takes humanity on a hike. It combines a cutout of the number of living people now, with landscapes and people. Real photos and random dreams.

This paper sum is updated with every shot or photomontage, a clock of personal units. At the sustained pace of our species' growth, Everyone Counts evokes density and change.

The mathematical value of Everyone Counts fits in a single cell of a spreadsheet, while the represented value is immeasurable. Yet, humanity struggles to associate the qualities of the individuals who compose it. Well, isn’t AI going to solve all of the challenges of our time for us?

Everyone Counts is made of thick paper, proudly casting its shadows in a white room. Outside, the numbers are shaken by the wind and fear the rain. In the landscape, Everyone Counts is a fragile abstraction, never blending in.

Everyone Counts is also cumbersome and difficult to handle alone. This condition imposes new investigations, so I’m only getting started. I’ll meet someone who blows, cuts, assembles, wraps, burns, heals, rebels, counts, updates, dresses, drags, steals, plays, cheats, eats, seeks, chooses, refuses, tramples, illuminates, supports, ignores, raises, overlays, slides, copies, loves, waters...

Working from home certainly has its advantages. Like when your eyes start to cross from staring at the same spreadsheet for a good 4 hours and event planning, you can take a quick break and go for a run.

Race you.

My neighborhood smells like fresh cut grass and that's the way I like it.

When the maelstrom of life swirls around us and the very foundations and certainties which we have been our guide seem shaken to the core many people find solace and calm in their spiritual faith.

Whoops. Sorry - I must have been in a poetic mood when I penned that paragraph. This image wasn’t taken to say that, but it seems an appropriate caption for it.

It’s a picture of Uley, the village where I live. Pronounced yewly, the name is thought to come from yew woods in the area, long since gone.

There is a Uley in Australia too, near Adelaide, and that was named by emigrants from here when the woollen industry collapsed I guess (or they may have been dastardly criminals of course!).

The flat hill you see behind the village is Uley Bury, an iron age fort dating from 300BC. There is a place called Uleybury near Adelaide too… spot the connection ;)

There is also a Uley in Russia too, but I think they just stole the name and have yet to pay royalties.

The church was built in Victorian times replacing an earlier, less grand church on the same site - a rocky outcrop at the wealthier, upper end of the village (that’s because the water was cleaner higher up!).

Needless to say I don’t live that end :)

This is another wobbly camera shot for my 100x Motion project this year (I'm currently 2.49 images behind according to Andrew's spreadsheet). It uses the advanced swirlywobbles technique which I seem to have made my own.

I haven’t seen anyone else try it which puzzles me as it’s quite easy (just point the camera at something and spin around its lens axis - or go from portrait to landscape if that makes more sense). Perhaps it’s simply that no one else likes the effect…

It does need a lot of attempts to get a good shot. The main problem is making the rotation smooth (hold out your arms) and getting the sweet spot pointed at the right place. Just takes lots and you’ll get something.

As with most ICMs you need to bump the saturation and contrast in processing (don't be shy), and probably sharpen it too, to counter the camera’s natural inclination to expose everything to mid-grey. But you can use Flickr’s inbuilt editor to do that easily enough.

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image. Happy 100x

Inspired by others who have created this in an image form, I wanted to document all the Poppy screening combinations. I'm keeping this in a Google document which is easy to edit and update: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1HSdBjcd3OCSu0f7E4NUrcWpQJ... I'm also a data nerd, so there are some stats to check out if you are so inclined.

...realizing those pesky spreadsheet cells just don't align with his hopes and dreams.

Image imagined in MidJourney AI and finished with Topaz Studio and Lightroom Classic.

Today is the first time I've been able to dress for ages but have been hard at work at my desk. So much better doing spreadsheets in a pretty blouse and pleated skirt! And time for coffee of course!

A Photo from Day 2 of a 10 day 9 night "Railway Tour" of 13 Museums and Heritage Railway Locations. The Main Aim was to get as many Steam Train Journeys to add to my Steam Powered Journeys Spreadsheet which is my modern "Trainspotting" record.

At Didcot Railway Centre, their "Diamond Jubilee Gala" had 4 steam locomotives with 2 each on the "Main Demonstration Line" and the shorter "Branch Line." 2 diesels powered some early morning and evening trains.

Several Steam Locomotives were also on Static Display and it was possible to go round the sheds.

Here, Left to Right are :-

6023 - "King Edward II" - King or 6000 class 4-6-0

29 - The Lambton, Hetton and Joicey Loco on loan from NYMR

2999 - "Lady of Legend"

No 29 is in steam and will later run on the branch Line and

No 2999 is in steam and will run on the main Demonstration Line.

You know that feeling when you've created a spreadsheet, then spent hours entering data from a paper copy? Then, after a few hours, you think "that's not right". So you investigate, and find out that you haven't been given all the sheets? So now, you need to go through every month, checking if there is missing data?

And you lose the will to live?

That.

I needed a break from the computer. I had a cream cake for afternoon tea break, but needed to wash up first.

I've got another task now, so tomorrow will be yet more data entry. Oh, and there is no elegant way to eat a chocolate eclair!

This week-end involved 2 Heritage Railways with the Main Aim was to get as many Steam Train Journeys to add to my Steam Powered Journeys Spreadsheet which is my modern "Trainspotting" record.

Here, after arriving at the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway (EVR) for their Steam in the Valley 21 Event and going on a journey behind Steam Locomotive "Henry Ellison" from Wirksworth Station on a train up the very steep 1 in 27 Ravenstor Incline, I went along the line to Duffield Station and back hauled by BR Std. 4 Tank 80080.

Here, back at Wirksworth Station - after my second round trip, I got a photo of the other main heritage line loco in use this day GWR 9466.

9466 was designed by Hawksworth as part of the "94xx Class" for the GWR which rather strangely was built at Robert Stephenson and Hawthorn Ltd at Darlington as a 0-6-0PT.

(The DM Units were just being used as carriages).

This is the first page of about 30 of the index for the choirs anthems at our church. After Covid, not enough choir members returned to have a choir but this year a small group prepared songs for Christmas Eve. After Christmas, I remembered and found the “Very Important” anthem index. I then decided to photograph and preserve the index so there would be more than one copy. My new project is creating an Excel spreadsheet from it.

25 Presets. 2 Tutorial Videos. 20 Sample Images. Rather Redonkulously Long Preset Names that are More Problematic than Helpful. — New presets for Aurora HDR Pro YAY :) Grab the preset expansion at ift.tt/1YN3YZL or get the full Bundle at ift.tt/1X1oB7y ! Hello Internet friends. Trey Here. As of the time of writing this, Aurora HDR Pro has only been out less than half a year and already has 250,000+ downloads. It’s clear people love this! Well, I use this almost every day… sometimes to process dozens of photos. I honestly love it. Remember when I used to use Photomatix? Remember back in the 70’s when I used to stand up and walk over to the Magnavox to change the channel? Yeah, that was pretty lame. In the past few months, I’ve created about 100 presets. I thought about releasing all of them, but that seemed to be too silly and information over-load, so I decided on my favorite 25. I actually had a little Google Doc, and whenever I used one, I updated the spreadsheet. Pretty geeky I know, but it helped figure out the best 25. I’ll be honest. Every set of photos is different and some of these presets will make your photo look amazing, and others like complete garbage. There, I said it. But listen, I’m an expert in this stuff, and you just can’t have a preset that works perfectly in Daytime + Nighttime + Indoor/Outdoor + CutePet. So, some will look amazing, others not so much. But don’t give up, next time you might get the inverted results! One of my favorite new presets is called “Girls Love them some Jon Snow.” It’s dark and moody and has just the right amount of HDR. It works great in night situations. Another great one that works with night shots is “Horrible Mistakes on Snapchat." Looking for a good daytime filter? This one really plays with the dynamic glow, but I keep going to it. It’s called "ROBOT TREY Calls This 101101101” which is really a stupid name but Robot Trey doesn’t think about these things. Another daytime winner is "Chocolate Increases Happiness & Shame.” You’ll notice how there are thematic connections between the presets that hint towards an artist in an e via Trey Ratcliff on FB at ift.tt/1v05hWZ Snapchat: treyratcliff ift.tt/1qx3iMJ Instagram: treyratcliff ift.tt/1c7s6Uy

A Photo from Day 5 of a 10 day 9 night "Railway Tour" of 13 Museums and Heritage Railway Locations. The Main Aim was to get as many Steam Train Journeys to add to my Steam Powered Journeys Spreadsheet which is my modern "Trainspotting" record.

The East Somerset Railway (ESR) runs trains from Cranmore station to Mendip Vale station and back on a 5 mile round trip along its Heritage Railway line.

Along the line, there is also a halt and Cranmore West Station which is near the Sheds.

There is ample car parking at the Cranmore end of the line on normal running days so I started there.

The day I went during the sort of main summer holidays, there was only 1 steam Locomotive running although another was at the sheds and could have been steamed if thought necessary.

Here, at Mendip Vale Station after running round the train, 46447 is about to power the return journey to Cranmore.

A Day Trip to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway for the first day of their 2021 Autumn Steam Gala,

As Usual, the Main Aim was to get as many Steam Train Journeys to add to my Steam Powered Journeys Spreadsheet which is my modern "Trainspotting" record.

Here, Visiting from the Great Central Railway (GCR) and approaching up the 1 in 49 incline towards Goathland Station is 48305, a Stanier designed and Crewe Works built for the LMS Class 8F 2-8-0 Steam Locomotive.

Actually, although difficult to see, 48305 is the first part of a Double Header with 5428 "Eric Treacy" as a LMS and Stanier designed loco pairing and I now need to get over the footbridge to catch this train to Levisham.

Photo of a soldier in the 93rd Spruce Squadron. The photo is dated 1918.

He was from Tarrytown, New York.

Most of the soldiers working with the 93rd were involved with railroad construction to allow access to the stands of spruce trees.

There is more information about the Spruce Squadrons at:

I have posted a spreadsheet of the letters from him that I own.
