Marsha and Jeffry retrace their steps down the hallway and find the Computer classroom. Like other rooms at Newbury High School, this one was also a Science lab, and a history classroom in addition to a computer lab. And yes, the old computers were still there, obviously no longer needed at the new high school as modern technology has up-graded to the newer versions. Yet, some of these still worked!

Robby joins them, and adds his 5 cents to the evening’s events. “You know, I’ve been trying to see how these old computers would still work in today’s world, but sadly, the Internet these days is much too fast. These old computers may work for a simple bedsheet, but not for boating on the web.”

“You mean spreadsheet and surfing on the web, right?” Jeffry recalling how Robby would add a twist to a common phrase.

“No, spiders are on webs and I’m not seeing a bedsheet.” He chuckled slightly but then got serious. He began to look pale then turned and left.

“I wonder what that was all about,” Marsha wondered. “I’ve never seen him like this before.”

Jeffry agreed. “It’s not like him to laugh at his own comments, so he must have had something on his mind.”

There was a slight rush of wind down that hallway, but both Marsha and Jeffry concluded that the window was not entirely closed. “It must have let in a little breeze and that’s what we felt,” Marsha surmised, seeing that she was right by the window.

But was it? Robby left before that breeze was felt. Could he have caused it?

A Quick Trip to see the Victor and Vulcan together Event at North Tyneside Steam Railway - Stephenson Museum - I was lucky to get a lift to the museum while a friend had an abortive shopping trip (long queues) to a shopping outlet.

As Usual, the Main Aim was to get as many Steam Train Journeys to add to my Steam Powered Journeys Spreadsheet which is my modern "Trainspotting" record.

403 - "Victor" was Visiting from the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway and meeting up with 401 - "Vulcan", a Home Locomotive built by the same factory for the .Victor and Vulcan together Event at North Tyneside Steam Railway - Stephenson Museum.

Here, 403 - "Victor" has just hauled a Train up from Percy Main and is about to run round to haul a train I catch to the other end of the approximately 2 mile long line.

For the spreadsheet that is.

I looked outside my window once more onto a grey unpromising world. The forecast it seemed was wrong; there was no sign of the patches of blue sky and sunshine I'd been promised and so I made a second mug of coffee and switched on the television, intending to clear a couple of episodes of "Around the World in Eighty Days" while I had the house to myself. That's the way it works isn't it? Some things we watch together, but on other occasions the one of us who's been dragged into a series they were never that interested in seeing in the first place makes their almost immediate boredom plain by reaching for their mobile within the first few minutes. More than once I've come home to find Sarah Jessica Parker on the screen and stifled a sigh. And I'm not talking about celebrity crushes here either.

As least now I have a little cubby hole to hide in when "Sex in the City" and similar other televisual offerings have won the hour. In the middle of a sleepless night a few days earlier a lightning bolt had landed somewhere between my ears, a moment which found me comparing the relative merits and prices of an almost inexhaustible number of desks on Amazon the following morning. The happy result is that I have an office of sorts in which to edit my photos and write up the accompanying episodes. Before this change, the PC sat next to the sofa in the living room, in the corner where Ali generally sits, and as she's clearly the boss it meant that the creative juices needed to be flowing at exactly the same time that I managed to slip into the hot seat for a chance of any editorial shenanigans to take place. It's a very liberating experience being able to sit at one's desk and be completely focused on a labour of love rather than the hideous mental gymnastics that I used to have to do at work. Even my deputy Katie thought I wouldn't be able to resist the odd spreadsheet after I retired, but in the four months that have flown by, I've left them behind completely. Not even once have I dreamed of turning a data download into a pivot table. Never have I felt the need to apply a vlookup formula to a long column of numbers. I didn't even wince when I finally said goodbye to my last set of management accounts, the seamless report that I'd invented several years earlier and had almost regarded as my third child. Now, the most important thing I have to remember is whether to put the recycling out with the wheelie bin on a Wednesday evening. It makes me very happy indeed. One day I'll finally write the story of that 400 mile touring bike holiday in France - you know, the one where Lee managed to empty an entire shelf at the patisserie one shining Breton morning to the complete dismay of the queue of customers behind him. We needed the calories. What made his efforts all the more impressive was that the only French word he knew was "bonjour." He seemed to be very useful at pointing at things and grinning encouragingly.

Halfway into the second episode, by which time David Tennant and his friends were on a journey across India trying to rescue a lovestruck subaltern from a sorry end at a court martial I glanced towards the window and noticed a chink of blue above and the beginnings of a tell-tale glow to the west. Maybe the good old BBC were right after all - unlike the TV series I was watching, it seemed things were sticking to the original script. It was already 2:30pm and there were little more than two hours until sunset.

Ten minutes later I was in the car, camera bag and all, heading to my favourite spot, and a little after 3pm I was on the beach, smelling the sights and sounds of a deliciously cold January afternoon. The sun had appeared in a misty haze, lighting the beach from where it hovered above the distant bluff. I set up camp on the eastern side of the spot where the Red River runs down the beach and into the Atlantic, dabbling with long exposures on the fast flowing water as it collided with the gentle incoming surf. Later I moved up to the cliff by the lifeguard hut and watched the colours becoming darker and ever more saturated, the yellows and blues gradually mutating into oranges and magentas, and all the while the light reigned supreme in this beautiful sunset moment. The few who'd come here to stroll along the beach had mostly disappeared when finally I sat on a dune watching the day vanish into a lilac pastel dusk, and listening to the waves breaking with an easy rhythm on the shoreline below. What had looked so unpromising had somehow morphed into a memorable golden hour. Better than watching the telly, that's for sure. There's always something different to capture here - it never stops giving me presents, whatever the weather brings.

A Photo from Day 2 of a 10 day 9 night "Railway Tour" of 13 Museums and Heritage Railway Locations. The Main Aim was to get as many Steam Train Journeys to add to my Steam Powered Journeys Spreadsheet which is my modern "Trainspotting" record.

At Didcot Railway Centre, their "Diamond Jubilee Gala" had 4 steam locomotives with 2 each on the "Main Demonstration Line" and the shorter "Branch Line." 2 diesels powered some early morning and evening trains.

Several Steam Locomotives were also on Static Display and it was possible to go round the sheds.

Here, 2999 - "Lady of Legend", a 4-6-0 built in between 2009 and 2019 is in steam and will run on the main Demonstration Line.

2999 was built in such a way that it can be a 4-4-2 or as here a 4-6-0 version of the GWR 2900 "Saint" Class, None of which survived into Preservation. Some parts from Hall or Manor Locomotives were used in the build to an original Churchward design.

A Day Trip to the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway for the Sunday of a 2 day Event celebrating Lancashire and Yorkshire carriages

As Usual, the Main Aim was to get as many Steam Train Journeys to add to my Steam Powered Journeys Spreadsheet which is my modern "Trainspotting" record.

As part of a series of "Vintage Trains" weekends, there were 2 trains operating on this day but because of a fear of Lineside Fires, This train was aided by a small diesel shunter.

Here, no. 41241, an Ivatt designed and Crewe Works built for the LMS Class 2MT 2-6-2T locomotive is at Oxenhope Station having travelled up the valley from Keighley,

We made it to Friday again.

Well done team.

We woke to hear Storm Éowyn raging outside. It was the deepest low to hit the UK and Ireland, had gusts of up to 187 km/h in Ireland, but not here.

But we got gales and rain. On bin day!

So, once Jools left for yoga, I put the bins out and made sure they were up against the lamp post outside the house, so not to blow over in the wind, like many's already had.

Back indie for breakfast and a brew, then to work with three meetings and much updating of databases and spreadsheets.

By mid-morning, as forecasted, the winds dropped, the sky cleared and the sun came out.

As we had to catch an early afternoon train to London, so had taken the day off work, so got chores done, did a tip run and so on.

She got back at half eleven, I had one last meeting, then a pasty Jools brought back for lunch, then pack away before leaving at one for the station.

Camera batteries were charged, and memory cards cleared.

All ready.

We even got a parking space outside the station, so filled that, went inside to buy our tickets and then had half an hour to wait, so went to the buffet for coffee and chocolate.

The train, when it came was pretty empty, so we got seats with a table, and so watched through the large window as the countryside flashed by.

We dozed on the way up, so it seemed quick that we arrived at Stratford, where we detrained and got ready to cross down to Docklands.

The phone rang: it was the vet.

Scully has diabetes, and so needs treatment, but first an assessment on how serious the condition is.

Jools talks with them for ten minutes, with a stay planned, though not booked, so her urine can be tested for crystals.

We had 80 minutes, so I asked Jools if she wanted a drink: coffee or cider?

Coffee, no cider. So I take her to Tap East where I was considering the beers on taps, when I spotted the bottled beers in the cooler, and I cannot resist a Chimay Blue. So, we linger for twenty minutes as I supper the strong but delightful beer.

We walked through the glittering palace that is Westfield. Full of people and shiny things, though nothing really appealed to us. A monument to consumerism if leaves us cold.

Up the escalator, then over the wide footbridge to the regional station, where we went down to catch a Jubilee Line train to Canary Wharf.

We didn't squeeze on the train about to leave, instead getting a seat on the next train which would depart a mere three minutes later.

Not much to report on that trip, the train screeching once it went into tunnels beyond Canning Town, we got out at the deep Canary Wharf station, pausing to take a couple of shots.

We took the two flights of escalators up to the concourse, then stop to take obligatory shot of the entrance to street level where we were to meet friends.

We went to the square, and took seats looking back at the entrance to The Tube, and the buildings surrounding, towering over everything.

Our friends, Vicki and Justin, arrive, and after receiving a leaflet of the Winter Lights display we were ere to see, we make our way to the Elizabeth Lone station, taking in the sights on the way. Not that we were going anywhere on it, or yet as it turned out, just for the installations and architecture.

We walked though several foyers and atriums, across roads before coming to where the station was bult in a concrete box in a former dock. On top of it, a wooden arboretum bas built on top, with another mall with eateries and restaurants.

And leading to it is a tunnel-cum-bridge, all futuristic, and currently brightly painted as its housing an art installation.

We all took several shots on the way to the arboretum.

locked inside, without a voice.

Dark and dying passion lies crumpled in agony, lies smothered in darkness, because of lies.Let the monster have it's way till passion reigns again, on high, in light, far, far, away from the closet.

Me ;-)

Its summer vacation....calgon, take me away!!!!

Oops, almost forgot. I have a lovely spread/interview with Sexis magazine. You can get your free print copy here. It features pics such as "what Bad girls" as well as "Passion Flower".

A Photo from Day 5 of a 10 day 9 night "Railway Tour" of 13 Museums and Heritage Railway Locations. The Main Aim was to get as many Steam Train Journeys to add to my Steam Powered Journeys Spreadsheet which is my modern "Trainspotting" record.

The East Somerset Railway (ESR) runs trains from Cranmore station to Mendip Vale station and back on a 5 mile round trip along its Heritage Railway line.

Along the line, there is also a halt and Cranmore West Station which is near the Sheds.

There is ample car parking at the Cranmore end of the line on normal running days so I started there.

The day I went during the sort of main summer holidays, there was only 1 steam Locomotive running although (4555) another was at the sheds and could have been steamed if thought necessary.

Here, Just outside the Sheds, 4555 is a GWR "Class 45xx" Churchward designed Swindon Works built 2-6-2T Locomotive.

In the kitchen garden at Kew

I had a great time with the camera in Kew gardens yesterday - I have >700 photos to work through now! Mostly honey bees on flowers! I queued to get in for it opening at 10 and left at closing time at 6pm! perfect place for chasing honey bees on flowers.

Beautiful Bee Butt Thursday!

This is a typical Irish Amm dark bee. my sort of bee!

There were still so many dandelions last weekend. Looking at the garden and fields around the house this evening I am struck with the realisation that only the late stragglers are left.

Sad to see them finish but at the same time it means the Summer is just about to come.

It happens frequently. That siren song of the open road. The desire to be anywhere but in my house doing the same old chores, waking up and following the same routines, going to the office and working in the same spreadsheets. I'm fortunate that I can heed that call and jump in a car and take a quick trip to a forest in Ohio, or hop on a plane and escape for a few days. Luckier still that I have the world's best travel buddy to go with me.

Nachts in einer fremden Stadt

Nachts in einer fremden Stadt

das Zimmer kahl gekipptes Fenster

Im Fernsehen gibt’s acht Programme

am Weiterknopf erstirbt die Lust

Hier wohnen nicht einmal Gespenster

Nachts in einer fremden Stadt

‘ne Kneipe die offen hat

Und Rauch der an der klebt

Soul und Funk ein Stück Papier

Vorm Schlafengehn ein Bier

Vorm Schlafengehn

zwei Zeilen noch die schreib ich dir

At night in a strange city

The room bare, the window tilted

There are eight programmes on the television

The desire dies at the nextbutton

Not even ghosts live here

At night in a strange town

A pub that's open

And smoke that sticks

Soul and funk a piece of paper

A beer before going to bed

Before going to sleep

I'll write you two more lines

I don't mean to alarm anyone, but I'm pretty sure I saw snowflakes out there today.

Not cool Mother Nature, not cool. I'm not ready for winter. Please keep fall around a while longer! Bright colours and warmer(ish) days.

I was stuck inside for most of the day, so I figured I'd better try to work photography into my day as best I can, and this was the best I came up with while on a ten minute break.

Turns out if you leave me alone in the office, spreadsheets just don't hold my attention for 9 hours straight... oops!

Hope everyone has had a good day.

For the next Challenge: Anything that has been rendered obsolete but still being used everyday by people everywhere. This can include any subject that you can think of that has for the most part been replaced or updated for general use. A good example is audio CD's, typewriters, stationary, books. There are many more items you can include in this list. I look forward to seeing what you choose as your subject;

This calculator was bought in 1989 (discontinued 1990) and has been used in the shops i worked in and when I worked in an office because I was not good at spreadsheets, I would check it with the calculator to see if the formula was right!! still used on occasions when I forget that the phone or tablet does all that! I did notice they are still sold on ebay but this still works perfectly, although there is some dirt just below the screen that won't come off!
